Holy sour grapes, Batman
Damn straight we have sour grapes.

**** that guy.

I don’t wish him well…..I hope he sucks balls.

Is that wrong! He went to a cross town rival…..choke on that contract bitches.
al/nl are rivals now? Cocaine is a helluva drug
Just checked Google Maps and they're 15 minutes away from each other. Gotta be the two closest playing fields in sports right?

Anfield and Goodison Park in Liverpool are much closer.

In the old days, Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds and Shibe Park and Baker Bowl in Philadelphia were a hop, skip and a jump from each other.

Does this actually happen?

Eric Gregg and Livan Hernandez. Will never forget it. That was ridiculous.

My two cents:

The changes have been great besides the shift, a rule that has problems that @Gally explained so eloquently
Robo ump should be challenge-based
Golden at-bat is interesting. My gut reaction is to loathe it. The masochist in me loves it because . . .

Nobody ever wrote a poem about Casey being stuck on deck while the Mudville nine lost that day. It’s "Casey at the Bat," folks.

And mighty Casey has struck out.

Just seems so insane to pay that much. He's a GREAT player, but it's 11% of your offense. Just wild.
You’re right. But then again I think he’s the hardest player to get out in baseball and if you have unlimited money, why not?
In the Yankees lineup he is….not anymore.
really? did you miss what he did with the nationals and padres? wild take to think he was a hard out because he was on the yankees
Agreed. He has a career OBP of .421. I can’t think of a harder out in baseball. Hard to believe but the guy has actually been underrated as hell in his career.
Sure. But his propensity to get a walk, thus driving that OBP, doesn’t go far unless you have a couple very impactful players behind him.

Giants and Jets count?

He still is - Yankees lineup (which was Soto and Judge and not much else) or not.

Regardless that’s a ton of money - he is a below average defender. Best hitter in the league though.

Interested to see what Mets build around him, they still have a ton of work.

It's a rivalry for television eyeballs and attendance (plus bragging rights) in the NYC Tri-State area.

Great, great hitter but a lot of money for a future DH.
Yep.

Great hitter, average defense, average arm, below average speed.

Overpaid and actually not losing any sleep over it.

It would have been nice to see him and Judge the next 5 years….but oh well.

Moving on.

My point is the production is certainly about to go down. Judge protected Soto and vice a versa.

2024 will be his career year. And he rightfully cashed in on it. Good for him. Cohen was going to outbid the Yankees no matter what.

And there is accelerator clauses in there that can get his total contract north of 810MM

This is insanity for a baseball player but hey these owners are paying it.

At that kind of money is there a whole lot of difference between 750 and 800 million over 15 years? I guess…….its still 50 million. But sitting on my couch I think I’d rather play for either the Yankees or Red Sox over the Mets and it’s not even close.

Yeah….I was hoping Juan wanted to be a potential future Yankee Legend.

Oh well.

Fans are paying it in the end.
Oh yeah no doubt.

I understand the business of sports….but it’s all gone from the average fan. It’s become a total elite level event for most seats to see it live.

Baseball in a lot of markets still has cheap seats….fortunately you can get cheap tickets for baseball and hockey and they are good seats and you’re not breaking the bank. But food, parking etc kill you.

I am a Panthers season ticket holder and love it. And I am getting my money’s worth with that team.

Yankees fans can’t complain as they are competitive almost every season. But I looked at the cost of a decent seat at Yankee stadium and holy mother of god.

Insane.

I looked at Dodgers spring training tickets...hard no from me. I'll stick with college/minors (with the exception of maybe the Pirates after the all star game and people are giving tickets away :D )

My BFF and I have been doing 3 to 4 day road trips the last 10 years, or so (minus the covid years) where we watch some AAA, AA, A and the odd MLB game. Usually 3 parks a year. We live in Ontario (Canada) and have now visited all of the AAA parks that are within reasonable driving distance plus most AA. Still a number of A teams to be seen. We prefer these over the MLB games without a doubt. Ticket prices are usually in the teens for great seats. Only unfortunate thing is concession prices have increased dramatically in the last few years. No big deal, we just drink less at the parks. Quality of ball is still quite good. If I lived near Toledo, Syracuse, Columbus, Indianapolis, or any of these cities I'd have season tickets for sure.

Yankee fans are hysterical. Thank GOD we didn't have to pay a 26 year old HOF trending batter who may well be DH bound for the latter third of the contract. But we are PYSCHED to sign a 31 year old injury prone pitcher who in the last 6 years as never started over 30 games and in two of those seasons has started less than 15 games.
We'll need to revisit this in 2029 or so. I'll be back.

Yep! Rams and Chargers too. Thanks, I totally forgot about them!

sounds like the whole Soto fiasco is over one of his parents being kicked out of an area at yankee stadium and the team not giving him a luxury box as part of his contract.

I think he is a heck of hitter…one of the best I have seen.

But they are paying for that Yankee season thinking that’s what they will get.

No they won’t. They will get the 2022 National/Padres Soto.

He has zero protection in that lineup.

None.
Or......they'll get a generational hitter just scratching at the front steps of his prime, playing in a better stadium with a better lineup, better ownership, better front office management and a better farm system.

And it wouldn't appear to be all that insane to pay him that much....the Yankees offered virtually the same deal. Amirite?

Lol if you think he is protected in that lineup…..that’s you’re opinion.

I think in the end he did not want to be second fiddle to Judge. He wants to be “the guy” and that’s his choice. He had a chance to be a Yankees legend which holds a **** ton more prestige than…..a Met.

Mantle and Maris

Ruth and Gehrig

Jeter and Rivera

Judge and Soto…..what could have been.

Better huh?

We shall see.

Kyle Tucker appears headed to either the Yankees or Cubs. The roadblock is his contract status: he's a FA after next season, and does not seem inclined to sign an extension this year.

Houston is asking for multiple major league ready prospects. Tucker is an excellent player, but not worth the trade if you empty your top prospect cupboard and he leaves after one season.

Houston might compromise if they can attach Ryan Pressly's 14m contract with Tucker.

The Crochet deal was a win/win. The White Sox got a nice haul. Sorry to see Montgomery go

Sox also rumored to be in on a SP deal with the Mariners

Andres Gimenez being traded to Blue Jays
Despise this move. I don’t care if he can’t hit- I don’t need my second baseman to hit .300. Should have moved JNaylor.
I think they are clearing room for Manzardo. Aren't going to leave the number one pick stay in the minors for very long. Gimenez was signed to a longer deal too, and I think they felt they wouldn't get their moneys worth out of him.

Yeah, the deal freed up like $90M. They’ll give Brito and Manzardo a shot, and then trade Brito to make room for Bazzana, or move on from Rocchio if they need to.

Obviously Alonso is a question mark. Let's just assume the Mets resign him.

Catcher: Alvarez vs Wells
1B: Alonso vs Lemahieu
2B Acuna/Mauricio vs Chisholm
SS: Lindor vs Volpe
3B: Vientos vs Cabrera
OF: Soto vs Judge
OF: Nimmo vs Dominguez
OF: Marte vs Grisham - Push?
DH: Platoon vs Stanton - Assuming Stanton is on the field.

Fair enough.

It's a salary dump by Cleveland. Gimenez is a useful player even if he doesn't hit but they gave him a long-term deal based on what looks like a career year.

Hopefully the Guardians will re-invest the future capital instead of the Dolans raking it off the table. They could really use some pitching.

The guardians traded the player they got for Gimenez for 3 pitchers
