***Official - 2025 Major League Baseball Thread - The Royals Will Win The World Series This Year*** (2 Viewers)

The ownership won't spend money. Dipito's hands are tied. They're going to start selling off that pitching staff.

Ownership and salary constraints have never stopped Trader Jerry before. It's been one of the worst hot stoves in recent memory with the Dodgers getting everyone and Dipoto and AJ Preller mostly quiet.
He signed two mediocre utility guys, a washed up reliever and re-signed Polanco. If he could just give Haniger more money it would be a typical offseason for the Mariners

The Pirates finally have a bonafide ace, another good, young starter and perhaps the top pitching prospect in baseball. However, they’re going to waste away another season because they can’t fork out anything to bolster the offense. With how easy it is to make the wildcard, they could have set themselves up. But same old crap every year with the cheapskates in charge.

They might as well speed up the inevitable and trade him to the Dodgers now.

Royals buy out the last 2 years of arbitration for Cole Ragans, give him a 3 year, $13.5 million dollar deal.
That seems like a great move by the Royals.
He pitched well again last year but his velocity dipped. Might be nothing. Might be something. Makes me wonder why he accepted such a low deal.
Yeah, I said the same thing to a friend of mine.

The 2026 & 27 salary numbers could be higher if he stays productive for the next two season but Ragans has had two Tommy John surgeries already and $13.5M is still generational wealth. He could still earn a raise during his final arbitration year in 2028 before hitting free agency.

Rafael Devers is complaining about a potential move to DH following the Red Sox' addition of Bregman and trying to make room for prospect Kristian Campbell.

Maybe this will all blow over by the time Trevor Story gets injured but its never good to have an unhappy star the first week of camp.

Last year Ragans battled calf issues for a lot of the 2nd half. Seems like every other game he was having his starts cut short due to "calf cramps". Never seemed to be a big enough issue for DL but always seemed to crop up.

That may have been the reason for diminished velo. I guess we will see as the season gets going

The Cubs are having a similar issue (though not so dramatic) with Seiya Suzuki after the trade for Kyle Tucker. The last couple of years Suzuki has been the primary RF because Bellinger could play CF or 1B or DH. Now, Tucker is locked in as the everyday RF, Ian Happ is a Gold Glover in LF and PCA is entering elite territory as a defensive CF.

Suzuki is projected as the team DH.

and Tucker is projected as a free agent.

The Cubs lineup is pretty solid. They'll go as far as their pitching will take them. They ought to be able to contend in that division given their spend.

Mike Moustakas announced his retirement today after a thirteen year career. He had a short peak and little defensive value but I was surprised he only totaled 13 WAR. He did save his career year for the year the Royals won the WS so he'll never have to pay for a beer in KC.

B-R comps.
  1. Todd Frazier (927.2)
  2. Dave Henderson (917.6)
  3. Doug Rader (914.8)
  4. Tony Batista (914.7)
  5. Kyle Seager (911.2)
  6. Ty Wigginton (909.7)
  7. Howard Johnson (909.3)
  8. Eduardo Escobar (909.1)
  9. Casey Blake (904.4)
  10. Pablo Sandoval (903.0)

He was the red-*** the Royals needed on that team. He came alive just in time for those teams. Love that guy.

These new caps with the teams logos overlaid on the team name are pretty funny for a couple teams. The Texas (Tetas) and Angels (Anaels) are my favorites, followed closely by the Astros (Ashos), Twins (TTs), and Mariners (Masters).

Some great quality control there.

I've read the TeTas ones have already been taken off the market

No love for Bobon?

Is going to Japan considered a drag for players?

I read that the Cubs and Dodgers are going to leave behind the unscheduled starting pitchers, and fill out the rosters with relievers.

I would love to go on the trip, in particular if I didn't have to play and could just enjoy the experience. Maybe most of the players don't feel that way.

They have eight days until their next regular season game which should be enough time to reacclimate after the long flights. I think the negative for pitchers is that it disrupts their spring ramp-up routine. It makes sense to bring more relievers along because the starters will only be stretched out to 70-80 pitches at this point.

On the whole, ballplayers aren't the most cosmopolitan of people so touring temples and eating uni may not be as appealing as visiting whatever replaced the Pink Pony.
