Official 8th pick thread (1 Viewer)

Payne

Footballguy
My league is .5 PPR.

Been doing a few mocks lately and think I know what I want to do.

RB in the 1st round.

ADP

Martin

Foster

Charles

Spiller

TRich

Rice

McCoy

One of these guys, barring injury, will be my 1st pick

Round 2 is pick # 17. Here is where it gets interesting.

Initially, I was thinking RB all the way.

But Graham or an elite WR is also a good option if you think a solid #2 RB will be available in round 3.

I took my next top 9 guys and made a top 17 list:

Calvin

AJ

Graham

Marshall

Lynch

C johnson

Dez

Forte

Julio

Two of these guys will be on my team after round 2. And I don't mind that at all.

I am really warming up to taking Graham in the 2nd. Especially in a TE mandatory league.

I'm also picking 8th....1 pt PPR...but my plan looks pretty similar to yours. I'm also considering Lynch in the first round...not sure if I would bump Rice or McCoy down for him, so if he is there in the 2nd round I'm picking him (unless Calvin is still there).

I would probably also rather have Alfred Morris over Chris Johnson in the 2nd round.

If you skip on RB in 2nd round for Graham or a top WR you may be looking at 3rd round RBs like D Murray, McFadden, Gore, or R Bush. Which I think would be fine considering you got a top RB in the first round and either the stand-out best TE or a top WR in the second.
Starting with something like Trent Richardson, Marshall/Graham, and D Murray/McFadden is not a bad way to start the draft.

I'm having the hardest time deciding if I would take Calvin if he is available. If I do, my main RB is someone like Chris Johnson or or Forte. Not sure if I like that.

Also Richardson or Ray Rice with Jimmy Graham, not liking that either. There's no RBs by the time it gets back around in the 3rd round. At least not in the mocks I'm doing.

12 team .3ppr Here's my list.

ADP,Martin,Foster,Spiller,Charles,Lynch,Calvin,Rice

I will probably take Calvin unless one of the backs fall.Foster has me paranoid though so Id reach for Tate later if I grab him. I think you have to stay in the RB/WR lists for round 2. True value for QBs happens in round 5 or later. TEs have value at 6+.

We start 2RB/3WR so my goal will be to have a RB and WR after the first two rounds to take advantage of either RB's or WR's slipping into the 3rd round. I also foresee myself probably having 2RB and 2WR after the first four rounds (but that could change if there is exceptional value).

At 1.08 (8) targeting - Top 6 RBs (whoever falls out of ADP, Martin, Spiller, Charles, McCoy or Rice), then Megatron and if not whomever is my RB7 (Foster, Richardson or Lynch) when I draft on 9/1.

At 2.05 (17) if I had taken an RB at 1.08, I will take a WR if Top 6 fall (Johnson, Bryant, Green, Marshall, Jones, or Thomas), then J. Graham, and if not whomever is the best RB on my list (minimum RB 10 so no worse than Forte).

At 2.05 (17) if I had taken a Megatron at 1.08, I will take an RB if Top 10 are there, then Top 6 WR, then J. Graham.

At 3.08 (32) I should be positioned to take whomever falls. I would be happy to take a Top 2 QB, Top 16 RB, Top 13 WR or Top 1TE - what I do will be dependent on what I did in the first two rounds, the likelihood a certain tier of players will come back to me at the 4.05 (41) which is dependent on who is left and whom the players behind me drafted.

At 4.05 (41) I would be happy to take Top 3 QB, Top 19 RB, Top 16 WR, Top 3 TE

At 5.08 (56), I would be happy to take Top 6 QB, Top 22 RB, Top 22 WR, Top 4 TE This only adds up to 54 so I am banking on my list of top players being different than other people's top players.

I drafted out of the 8th spot yesterday in a 10 team, non-PPR league. Somewhat of an odd scoring system (TD heavy, rewards long touchdowns, etc).

I am absolutely astounded by how my draft unfolded. At 1.08 both Spiller and McCoy were available (2 QBs were taken before I picked), so I went with Spiller. Inexplicably McCoy was still there with my second pick (2.03) so I grabbed him as well. And no I wasn't drafting with a bunch of pre-schoolers. This is a long-standing league with just a single new guy this year (and he picked 2nd so he didn't screw things up at the turn).

The only thing I can think is that people were scared off by the year McCoy had last year and/or are worried about his perceived injury risk. I think had I gone McCoy first, Spiller would not have been there for my second pick. I really have no explanation for it, but I was shocked.

Had mine this weekend, 12 team, 4 PT passing TDs, 1 point for every 10 yards (receiving or rushing), 1 point for every 25 yards for QB, heavy defensive scoring. Good drafters, but somewhat screwy what happens each year with the draft.

Here's how I went:

McCoy

D. Thomas

Peyton

Eddie Lacy

Garcon

Hilton

Jennings

Seattle D

Sudfeld

Pettigrew

Moreno

Michael

Legatron

Schaub

L. James

I took Peyton earlier than I wanted to take a QB, but the value at RB was pretty much sucked dry at that point. Looking back, I probably should have gone WR there in the third.

Truth is, I hated all my mocks from this spot regardless of strategy (RBs early, WRs early, QB early), so chose to grab Peyton early and get away from the herd mentality that was going on.

I was the last to take a TE, almost had Olsen and Cameron to choose from, but they went the two picks prior to mine in the ninth.

Had my draft Friday night from the 8 spot:

Pretty standard scoring league with 12 teams. We start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, Flex, TE, and Defense

First 6 rounds:

1.8 - Arian Foster

2.5 - Peyton Manning

3.8 - Roddy White

4.5 - Reggie Wayne

5.8 - Antonio Brown

6.5 - Ryan Mathews

.25ppr 12 teamer Sunday evening

Foster

Ridley

Cruz

Gronk

James Jones

Torrey Smith

Bradshaw

Wilson

Dalton

Pettigrew

Ballard

Leveon Bell (moved to IR)

Zeurlein

Randle

Colts (one weeker vs Oakland)

I basically swung for the fences with the high risk high reward players. I could be by far the worst or best team IMO. My only regret really is not taking Ben Tate at the Bradshaw pick. Tactical error and now I'm desperately trying to trade for him.

local draft.....

1 McCoy

2 Graham (then 7 rbs went in a row, letting guys like BMarsh, AJ, Julio fall to the 3rd)

3 Fitz

4 Lacey

5 Jordy

6 DeAngelo

Meh. Not so sure I like Graham right now since no TEs are off the board yet. Most of my FBG based drafts have Graham/Witten/VD going very early.

I just drafted yesterday from the 8th spot and have another one next week from there.

IMO, you have to go RB,RB, RB (if Gore/Murray is there) from that spot. Look at the rosters above that took Graham or a WR in round 2. They suck at RB2, period.

I got Spiller, Forte, and Gore.

The only RB's that have a chance of making it back to you in the third are Gore, Murray, Wilson, McFadden.

The only one I like as a RB2 is Gore, and maybe Murray. I love them as a RB3 along with Wilson and McFadden.

So if you don't take RB in round 2, you better hope one of those two get back to you in the 3rd.

Amendola was who I took in the 4th. Which I am fine with him as my WR1. Nicks was there also, and I consider him a WR1 also. If you a real lucky, Nicks has been there in the 5th round in some drafts.

QB, and TE are way down my list this year. I'm not looking at them until I have 3 rbs, and 3 wrs. So not until round 7 for sure.

I drafted here the other night in a local league. 12 teams, no ppr. Start 3,wr.

1-Charles

2-aj green

3-R. Bush (thrilled to get him here)

4- roddy white

5- t. Smith

6- G. Bernard

7- gronkowski. (Used As a wr in this league)

8-Romo

I'm drafting 8th in a PPR 2 QB league this weekend. Actually it's a flex league with QB/RB/WR/TE eligible at flex and the best teams last year had a QB at flex most weeks. I'm convinced that's the way to win this league and not convinced that just a high-end QB2 at flex is going to cut it. I'm very tempted to go QB-WR-QB or even QB-QB-RB/WR if say, Ryan is sitting there in the second (11 QBs went in the first two rounds last year). But in mocks my RBs end up sucking when I take this approach.

I'll probably draw a line after QB4 in the first round and go RB if 4 QBs are already gone. Then swing for the fences with a combo of say Romo, Vick and a safe QB3 with upside like Dalton. I guess that would mean I'm getting Spiller or Richardson in the first which is good value at the 8th pick. Not my preferred route because I really want a top WR in the second but will be basically forced to take the best QB available instead.

Just drafted from 8. It's a 12 team, non-ppr, start 1Qb/2rb/3WRorTE/K/D.

It's Keep 3 but I think my 3 keepers (TRich, Brees, Gore) slot in pretty well in the first 3 rounds of a typical redraft at their adp.

QB: Brees 2, Dalton 12

RB: TRich 1, Gore 3, Miller, 5, DeAngelo Williams 8

WR: Roddy White 4, SSmith 6, Mike Williams 7, Britt 9, DMoore 11, Little 13

K: Haushcka 14

D/ST: Cinci 10

Happy with the draft overall. Grabbed a few extra WRs in case SSmith drops off a cliff...hopefully Britt lives up to potential and I expect to drop Little before week 2 for an RB unless he looks really good.

Just drafted #8 in a new 12-teamer. 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE) 1 K 1 DST

I think it was a mix of people with experience and some less so.

NO PPR, Rush/Rec TDs 6, Pass TDs 4, INT/FumLost -2, 1 point for each 10 yards rush/rec, 1 point for each 25 yards passing, 3/4/5 kicker scoring, -1 for missed FG.

I drafted on the premise there's no keepers. New League.

1.08 T Rich (passed on Spiller and Charles(!)

2.05 Forte (passed on AJ - tough call)

3.08 Cam (was him or Kaep - I didn't think one would slide to 4th round and rushing yards was juicy) (Graham was gone by now)

4.05 R Bush (I gambled that he would slide here after passing on him in round 3 - I was right)

5.08 D Bowe

6.05 L Miller (in this kind of league I love to be fully stocked at RB - I have insurance - they are more important in this format)

7.08 J Finley

8.05 P Garcon

9.08 Dalton (this was gonna be Cincy Defense - missed by 5 picks)

10.05 V Brown

11.08 J Cook

12.05 Baltimore

13.08 Hopkins

14.05 Woodhead

15.08 J Brown (K)

16.05 P Thomas

27 QBs, 56 RBs, 58 WRs, 22 TEs, 12 PKs, and 17 DSTs taken

Notable undrafted players:

QB - Tannehill, Locker, Weedman, Ponder - Geno was taken

RB - Daniel Thomas, Dwyer, K Hunter, Knowshon

WR - LaFell, Nate Washington, Kerley, Jacoby Jones, Sanu

TE - Gresham, M Lewis, T Eifert

PK - Bullock, Hartley - very surprised everyone went 1 kicker

DST - Arizona, Giants, Jets

Good luck #8s!

My Team

QB – Wilson (8.05), Freeman (12.05)

RB – D. Sporles (3.08), D. Wilson (4.05), B. Tate (9.08), B. Green-Ellis (10.05), J. Rodgers (11.08), A. Brown (16.05)

WR – C. Johnson (1.08), B. Marshall (2.05), J. Nelson (6.05), C. Shorts (7.08), Malcom Floyd (13.08)

TE – Gonzalez (5.08), M. Bennett (15.08)

K – None (will take one for 1st week waivers) – M. Bryant, J. Tucker, Janikowski and Akers are all there.

D – Houston (14.05)

My Choices

1.08 – Megatron - Chose Megatron over Richardson.

2.05 – B. Marshall - With my Top 9 RB already gone (and 13 already having been selected), I decided to get ahead of the inevitable WR run, take one of the Big 6 (#4 WR with AJ Green having gone the pick before), and hope one of my Top 17RB falls to me.

3.08 – D. Sproles - Only 15 RB’s had been taken and both Sproles and Wilson were left of my Top 17. I decide to take Sproles.

4.05 – D. Wilson - And D. Wilson falls to me with only 17RB having been taken off the board by this point.

5.08 – T. Gonzalez - Top 6 QB’s are off the board. My top 17 WR’s are off the board (actually 22 had been selected) and the top 3 TE’s are off the board so I decided to go with the last TE of this tier. I planned on getting one of the top 11 QB’s with my 7.08 pick at this point.

6.05 – J. Nelson - Top 8 QB’s are off the board. I figured erroneously that one of the remaining 3 of my Top 11 would fall to me. With only 23 RB’s off the board and 25 WR I decide to get the last of my WR’s (and J. Nelson had great value as the 65th overall pick) and load up on QBs and RBs later.

7.08 – C. Shorts - Top 12 QB’s are off the board with the guy who had taken C. Newton deciding to take RGIII after I had decided to take J. Nelson (he wanted him to fall). The other guy selected E. Manning who I had lower than R. Wilson. With everybody taking QBs I (1) assume I could get R. Wilson in the 8th round and (2) decide to get the last of my WR tier thinking I might trade with the RGIII owner later.

8.05 – R. Wilson - I was correct in this prediction and Wilson was still there.

9.08 – B. Tate - As RB’s continue to fall. I do not get the RB I wanted. M. Ingram goes at the 9.05 slot (ironically to the Foster owner) and C. Ivory goes at the 9.07 slot. I have A. Dalton and M. Vick as my two top QB’s in the next tier and roughly equal. I calculated that only one of the next four teams behind me would take a backup QB leaving either Vick or Dalton to me.

10.05– B. Green-Ellis - I calculated wrong. A Dalton is taken at the 9.10 pick and M. Vick is taken at the 10.04 pick (and by the Manning owner). I take the next RB on my board (ironically the Manning/Vick owner owns Bernard as his #2RB with Mendenhall as his #3RB.

11.08 – J. Rodgers - Best RB on my board

12.05 – J. Freeman -Don’t like Cutler and have him ranked over Bradford.

13.08 – Malcom Floyd - Only WR left of this tier and I might end up trading a WR so he would then become my #4 WR if I traded.

14.05 – Houston -# 4 defense on my board with the Top 3 defenses going earlier.

15.08 – M. Bennett - Top TE left on my board.

16.05 – A. Brown - D. Wilson’s handcuff who is injured for 4-6 weeks. But A. Brown would have gone in the 8th or 9th round had he not been injured.

I will get a kicker on waivers.

I did one of the yahoo $20 10 team non ppr leagues about two weeks ago and drafted from #8. Happy with my team, draft went like this for me:

Charles, AJG, Roddy, Miller, Garçon, DMC, Gronk, Vereen, Gordon, Vick, Mike Floyd, Hopkins (dropped for Ben Tate after the Foster news), Fred Davis, NE, Hartley.

Draft is complete. .5 PPR TE mandatory
