At halftime of the Monday night game, Adam Schefter said that Rodgers will be examined on Wednesday by Dr. Pat McKenzie. "This is not a football decision. This is a medical decision. It belongs to Dr. McKenzie". No way to possibly tell where this will end up or when we will get definitive word on Rodgers' status. My guess is Wednesday afternoon, but that's just a guess. The good news is there's no Thursday night game this week.
Pure speculation on my part, but here is what I think:
- Rodgers' last scan was a couple weeks ago. There is some controversy as to whether he had a scan done last Thursday afternoon. My guess is that he did not have a scan.
- I am guessing that Rodgers has a scan on Wednesday.
- My guess is that when Rodgers initially sustained the injury, Dr. McKenzie had a timetable in mind of 6-10 weeks. If the low end diagnosis was longer (in other words, 8-10 weeks) then the earliest Rodgers could have come back would be week 16, and I'd think they would have just IR'd him at that point and opened up a much needed roster spot. So, in short, I think we are in the window where they thought Rodgers could come back. Sunday will be 7 weeks since the injury.
- My guess is that Rodgers does indeed get medical clearance and plays this week.
IR'ing Rodgers would mean they have essentially zero chance to win the super bowl. If they didn't expect him back till the 2nd round of the playoffs the would still not IR him. They likely wouldn't make it that far without Rodgers, but at least they would have a chance.
Getting through rounds 2,3 and then the super bowl without Rodgers is about as close to impossible as you can get.
As for this week, I think he has an excelletn chance to be cleared and play. However, this is based on the assumpion his break was of the lowest kind of severity, which we dont know for sure at all.
