***OFFICIAL Amazing Race 29 - Matched Strangers Teams Edition*** (1 Viewer)

James Bond

Footballguy
Started last night. Anybody watching?

Twenty-two complete strangers form eleven teams to do the race.  Its early but teams "Seth and Olive" and "Matt and Redmond" look good while "Vanck and Ashton " look like a disaster.

I watch on CBS.com and they didn't upload until late last night. I'll watch tonight.

My wife and I want to apply to be racers. Although that would probably end in murder or murder-suicide.

that blonde chick couldn't want to be with her partner any less. feel kinda bad for her because it will probably be a rough experience.

the team that went home just seemed way too casual through it all. if you're gonna go on the show, at least make an effort!

rooting for the one legged guy/snowboarder, and the buff chicks.

Total reversal tonight. "Vanck and Ashton" and "Michael and Liz" crushed it. Shamir turned into a total wuss.

Possible team names:

Brooke&Scott - Team Tears

Becca&Floyd - Team Happy Pill

Shamir&Sara & The Swollen Scrotum

I liked that Shamere was pulling the same "alpha male" crap that CSTU was on FFA before he was shown to be anything but.

Too bad Brooke and Shamir weren't teamed up.  Both so whiny.  She couldn't run because her elbow hurt?  Feel sorry for both their partners.

The unlikeliest teams coming in 1-2. Good for them.

I'm glad the show is back. I thought it was done.

How much does time slot even matter these days? I know that I never watch anything live, except for sports, so it doesn't matter to me when a show is on.

In the timeslot it's in, it may as well be. Shame too. It's a great family show.
what's it up against?

we watch on replay well after the fact. not because we're watching something else in that time slot but because we're doing something else, generally.

i'd assumed it got bumped from Sunday because of football and 60 Minutes

Yep. Most of the racers are likable, except for the drama queen and the dude with balls so large that he simply cannot wear any type of harness.

Wow - Seth &Olive out???

But Shamir/Sara/Swollen Scrotum/Splinter/Spendthrifts/Stupidos are still alive.

Very unpredictable so far.

I wouldn't have predicted in a million years that the butcher and the auctioneer would win 2 legs in a row, but they ran the last 2 legs pretty much flawlessly.

The boys kicked some butt coming back from that U-turn. Did you hear Ashton say "So now we are even"? I don't think that Matt and Redmond feel that way.

If you go to one of their live signup events, be prepared for:

1.  A line (up to 30ish minutes depending on where you're at)

2.  A HUGE, time-consuming, written survey where you have to answer a litany of random questions about yourself, your co-runner and your relationship

3.  A filmed "intro / interview".

The wife and I stumbled upon one in Austin almost a decade ago and I think we would have been an ideal contestant pair (wife = feisty Southerner, me = typical SoCal guy with a great sense of direction/geography).  We waited in line (short) but got up to where they had folks writing up their surveys and I'm not joking when I say it would have taken at least 90 minutes to fill out and included stuff like "describe your perfect day" ... "what do you like most about your partner?"  ... "what do you like least about your partner?".  And then there was about 5-6 groups who had already filled out their surveys that were waiting for their turn at the "interview".  So all in all, a 3+ hour process at minimum.

Of course, there are probably other signup options these days (sending in videos, filling stuff out online, etc.).  Still wish we would have bitten the bullet and finished the process.   We had plans and didn't have time to do the survey.

Absolutely.  We watch no live TV except sports.  Even "major" events like GoT, TWD, etc.  Usually same night but DVR for sure.

As for this season, definitely like the "random pairs" angle.  They needed to inject something different into the storyline.  The last season I watched were a bunch of annoying milleniials who were "online celebrities".  I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a fork.  I'm not sure if that was the season before this or if I missed one.... but I've watched almost every season of it.  Love it!

Let's go ahead and add the one-legged guy to the jerk list now.
Definitely. At first, he had a heartwarming story and was cracking jokes, so I liked the guy. Then in the last episode he was berating the other team for using the U-turn because they were "weak". He showed what a major jerk/bully he is.

Also, when Floyd lost his passport, Becca showed a bit of a scary darkside. I can understand being upset with him, but she came across as creepy.

Agree completely.  He was one of my favorites at the beginning given the story and what appeared to be a positive personality.

Relatedly, I liked how Olive took the U-Turn news, saying that was just part of the game.  She and her partner showed themselves to be a whole lot classier than the other U-Turned team.

i like the fun team, but she is essentially Screech, isnt she?

Lol. They are like Screech and Urkel.

The Amazing Race always shows a person's true nature when adversity is introduced into the mix. Teams that have been laughing and joking around at the front of the pack, suddenly are at each other's throats when they get u-turned, have a bad cab driver, etc.

Becca went from the captain of Team Fun to menacing when she was speaking to Floyd on the stairs after they realized they could not check in. I'm surprised she didn't tell him if he screwed up again, she would end him and they would never find the body!

When Phil said if Floyd lost his passport again they would be out of the race. Becca added and "he (Floyd) will have a busted nose". I just hope Becca doesn't go all Kathy Bates from Misery on poor Floyd.

Sorry to see Seth and Olive eliminated. I guess that's what happens when you look too strong early on. The way red beard team is doing, they could be targeted next.

I do an AR Pool and everyone in it picked them as a top team. Shocking that they are out.

Well, 2 episodes. The "S" team is finally out and Tara&Joey are on a roll.

Anyone else wish that they placed Brooke on top of the palettes when they were set ablaze? What an irritating whiner!

Not only do I want to kill Brooke, I want to travel back in time to before she was born so I could Spartan kick her parents.

There are a lot of obnoxious people this season, so it's a little surprising that everyone fixated on Vanck&Ashton for the U Turn.

When Brooke was at the top of the climbing task, I think I heard some chanting in the background "....cut the rope.....Cut The Rope.....CUT IT NOW!!!".

And Vanck sucked. Glad he's out. What a tool. Just need Brooke to go and all the people I can't stand are gone and the show will be completely watchable.
that guy was as milquetoast as a human being could possibly be without being in a state of suspended animation.

didn't think it was possible to have an opinion on someone so flavorless.

Vanck & Ashton could have turned the boys team's dishonesty against them if they had any social game. But it seems like they didn't insert themselves into any conversations with teams during down times. The TV edit didn't show anything about them that was particularly unlikable.

Vanck seems to have no... anything. no personality.  and she was just a wretched #####.

imagine that even if she tried (i can't imagine him making much of an effort or understanding if people were trying to chat with him) people weren't all too receptive.

He had plenty of personality when he was insisting on doing something it should have been obvious he had no business attempting. Like archery off a canoe. Dude had no social skills in dealing with his partner, either. Everything was 'my way or the highway'. Bullheaded and obstinate.
I think the bolded above described Ashton too. She came across as a princess used to getting her way and she was unhappy she got stuck with a frog like Vanck instead of her ruggedly handsome prince. She poisoned their relationships with the other teams by getting her U-Turn "revenge" on Matt and Redmond.

Thought for sure team Redbeard was gone. Doesn't look much better for them next week. When they click they are great. That was twice. But other than that they fight like an old married couple.
