*** OFFICIAL Amazing Race 37 Thread - Season of Surprises Edition *** (1 Viewer)

I thought I would barf when Vinny asks Ms Neurotic to marry him after they were eliminated as Team #4
I have not hated a team or rooted against a team that much since the Mom/Son team as eliminated a couple episodes back.
I thought it was interesting having most of the race in South America the whole time, anyone who spoke Spanish had the edge

-I especially hated when the blonde w/Vinny would not leave a task/roadblock to wait on other teams, the mom/son team made me want to puke, when she was picking cocoa beans or whatever, I thought that was the end of them for sure but they kept hanging around. Did anyone hear a single word about a possible dad/ex-husband? Apparently he was an immaculate conception which if you watched this season, shouldn't surprise anyone.

Yes, this was definitely a weak season. Both the Covid affected seasons were bad. Thank goodness the Race is back to pre-Covid circumstances. I would like to see the private booking of flights again. It made it much more fun to watch.

Surprised how good/consistent the boyfriends are.

Yeah, I'm not going to scroll up, but I feel like people were questioning their fitness, and I'll admit that I silently was, too. To see them beat the other two teams to the top of that hill was amazing. They're a force!
The teams that have a Spanish speaker are going to do well this season. I like the boyfriends.

All 3 final teams were likable. Marriage proposal was gross. And I wish the mom and son team hadn’t have gotten hosed. Terrible season.

Totally fair that they picked the final city to be where Ricky grew up.

Fixing your hair? Really? :lmao:
Said the same. Can't they pick a final city once all the contestants are chosen so no one has the advantage.
Not a great season.
What was up with the guy telling them that Pat and Gino's were pizza places. If he was just messin' with them that's ****ed up.
Their fault that they went to Jersey, but still...
The funny thing is, Pat’s Select has better cheesesteaks than Pat’s and Geno’s.

Still in Jersey. The dude who sent them there needs to turn in his Philly card.

Um, I know?

For those saying Ricky/Cesar had so many advantages, I'd just like to point out that they faltered on that parasurfing challenge and were significantly behind after it. If Rod/Leticia hadn't messed up so badly memorizing the preamble to our constitution they had a very good chance of winning the entire thing. I wasn't a fan of Ricky/Cesar but they ran the best/most consistent race with the least number of mistakes. I don't think one's ability to speak Spanish or the other growing up in Philly had a significant impact on the outcome of this race.

that proposal. goodness, what an awful pair to get married. This can't be fun for them rewatching this.
If she said no, would we even know due to editing?
Makes you wonder how many proposals have happened and been rejected after an argumentative race.

Many teams had at least one person who could speak Spanish, so that criticism is overblown. But it had to be a huge help that Ricky had a general sense of where he was on the last leg. All they ever had to ask for was the entrance ramp to 95 North — and believe me as a local, those are hard to find. And he certainly knew that Pat’s and Geno’s are a) cheesesteak places, not pizza places and b) in South Philly, not NJ.

But I’m happy for him. Southwest Philly is a ROUGH place to grow up, and it’s probably an even worse experience if you’re gay.

You can see the budget cuts in real time which was really the disappointing thing about this season. I mean the first season after COVID things were understandable just to be able to get around but it feels like they kept some of those elements as a dollars thing. Reminded me the most of the Family Edition of the race which is about the most damning thing I can say about it.

Really hope that couple ends up not getting married. So toxic.

A likeable enough team won so at least there was that.
Though this easy mode version has me again thinking I can do it some day lol.

I believe this season was out of order and was the one right after the Covid season, so still had that feel. Moving forward all seasons should be back to normal.

The Amazing Race will be back for season 37. This race will feature fourteen teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, competing in a race around the world to win $1,000,000. Early reports have Season 37 starting at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, with teams traveling through Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal, Bulgaria, and other stops before returning to the United States and finishing in Miami. The season will continue with 90 minute episodes and will have teams book their own flights and will feature previous twists like U-turns and the Express Pass. The season is scheduled to premiere on CBS on March 5, 2025.

The network is billing this season as having “game-changing twists in every episode.” While that will include familiar game mechanics such as the Fast Forward and U-Turn, it will also debut a new wrinkle dubbed the Fork in the Road. When the teams arrive at the Fork in the Road during their very first leg in Hong Kong, they will “have to choose which direction and route they want to take to the Pit Stop, creating two parallel races where two teams will be eliminated.”

Season 37 of The Amazing Race premieres on CBS on March 5, 2025.

Great to have the Race back and with booking commercial flights again. The two teams that were eliminated were not surprises. It's a little hard to tell who will be the best teams due to the fork in the road. Almost all of the "dance" teams beat most of the "sing" teams so it was hard to tell much there. Should get a much better idea next week.

At least this time, there's no team that is so immediately annoying that you want them to fall off the boat. Although the dude sulking because he came in second is questionable.
Yeah, he seems like a piece of work. In a preseason interview, Phil said there was one team that argued with each other a lot, and I think it was these folks. Which is not surprising since they almost got divorced before reconciling. Speaking of which, "The Amazing Race saved our marriage" is a backstory that is almost certain to get you cast.

I thought the Fork in the Road was going to be a multiple-stage thing that lasted most of the episode, but it was just for the final task before the Pit Stop. So basically it's a glorified Detour.

He's more than questionable to me. I can't stand him. Everyone else is OK so far. Though the two teams who got eliminated were fully expected, they all seemed like such lovely people, and I hated to see them go so soon.

Both of those teams definitely seemed to be there for "I want an adventure" and not "I think we can win." The show seems to cast a few pairs like that every year.

The nurses struggled more than they should have given that they are in their 30s, but they came through when it mattered and showed a good mind for the game by realizing the dance route had more teams that they could beat.

I couldn't figure out what the issue was with the nurses and the taxis. They seemed to think it was something to do with showing a picture instead, but the other teams appeared just to tell the cab drivers where they were going and didn't have the same issue. Could you figure this out?

They weren’t showing the drivers the destination which was written in Chinese on the clue. They were just trying to say the name of the park. And the drivers didn’t want to deal. I think.

I watched episode one and I think I was playing on my phone 90% of the time. I think I'm done with this show...just doesn't hold my attention anymore.

I am so glad that they are back to booking their own flights again. It adds that extra factor of "risk vs. reward" that makes the race more interesting. We're getting a better idea of the good teams. The top four teams this week are pretty competitive (Jonathan & Anna, Scott & Lori, Alyssa & Josiah, and Carson & Jack). The Vegas guys finished ninth but were held back by the cop & daughter (that got eliminated) due to the drum challenge. Not really their fault. I also think that Nick & Mike will be good. Looks like the race is still in Japan next week.

I always love TAR......but have to admit this season hasn't grabbed my attention yet.

Nick & Mike: They are the "Superfans" that have applied for 7 yrs or so........however, they have struggled at some of the challenges so far (like the Sumo wrap). I thought they would do better, but still have time to get it together.

Han Nguyen & Holden Nguyen-Siblings Los Gatos, Calif
I'm sorry......but they are boring. Same haircut, dress almost exactly alike, and now i know why they weren't hardly shown in the 1st episode.

Bernie Gutierrez & Carrigain Scadden-Friends
These are the two 30-something yr old girls that got on the last flight and had a couple of arguments/meltdowns in the street and in the airport. They might be the ones Phil mentioned about arguing with each other a lot, since their personalities don't seem to mesh well when things don't go their way.

Ep1 China
Getting to know a few of the pairs. Too easy to pick out the two that were most likely to get eliminated.

Not enough info to pick some favorites, but for a group with an older person - Pops is jacked!

The taxi drivers refusing to help 1 pair was confusing until they started using the printed Chinese words. Made perfect sense then.

Good call on Dance vs some older and less likely to learn the moves type teams. Just don't come in last is the motto.
Having face paint on leg 1 sure didn't help recognition of the pairs much.

Ep 2 Japan
PT + Spa Friends are struggling to communicate already. Never a good sign. Actually 3-4 teams already showing frustration and it's just the 2nd leg.

At the outside square when the parents of 8 sons read their instructions, the cameraperson panned up to the ceiling - 3 peacock mural - guess some are not going to remember this at end game.

Episode of outfits. Even the taxi drivers wear a suit.

Drumming was easy for most. 17th attempt - wow - felt kinda bad for the Father/Daughter team. But it was an elimination 'well earned'.

Australia amazing race has started , it is on youtube
They have a new host and so far I am undecided if i like him. The previous host backed out because of a new job on radio
Only 30 minutes in and some teams just have no chance of winning

It's becoming clear who the stronger teams are. The top three are fairly consistent. They have good decision making and are working well together (except for maybe Jonathan). The bottom teams are the usual suspects too. Looks like Bernie & Carrigain and Han & Holden are next to go. Both Nick & Mike and Alyssa & Josiah seem to be physically capable but need to make better decisions on which Detours to take and when to switch up. I was surprised to see that Scott is 47. With eight kids and that grey hair he looked twenty years older.

The questionable went away. What a jerk. She can do better.

I said the same thing to MR R. His ability to teach someone else what to do should help them through, though. It sure helped in the drumming thing. One try and out. Very good.

Ep 3 - Japan part 2

Weeeee 186mph bullet train.

Every minute matters:
Sweet swap in line by Pops! One of the groups I'm rooting for.
Smart thinking - taxi at hotel instead of flagging one down like others by the Nguyen siblings. Nice soccer skills. Not so great folding skills.

Samurai Soccer = hackeysack with the soccer ball.

Nails are everyone's arch enemy this episode. Use elbow, not wrist. Perfection is hard.
19 tries before changing - wow.

Soon to be gone:
Again... Dating Nurses had issues with taxis and getting to the next location because they don't pay attention to the written clues closely. The quiet one is a Nurse Practitioner (a primary care provider a step below an MD / DO) and the RN are heading back to the hospital. Never really in the game.
PT+Spa Friends still struggling hard - mainly due to 1 of them.

8 Sons Parents are killing it, particularly for an older duo. Rooting for them. They shouldn't need the money since he's a PA (also a step below an MD / DO), so doing it for the adventure.
The ComicCons, err Gamers are very consistent so far. Always near the top.

Has Express Pass: Parents Jonathan & Ana are comfortably in 3rd and have the advantage.

Drivers Seat: Gets to decide how much of a task the rest have to accomplish. Could be an interesting twist depending upon sympathetic/sadistic tendencies. Not just this season, but for future seasons.

For sure. He was a real asshat to her when she was trying to complete the soccer ball pass task and earn the Express Pass. Turning his back at one point and just had a look of disgust on his face the whole time.
Dude is the epitome of smarmy to me.
