***Official***Amazon Echo & Dot (Alexa) Thread (1 Viewer)

the camera things is still weirding me out. I really really try not to be one other those "who's watching me" theorists, but there is something a little unnerving about having a camera in my bedroom with the Spot.

plus with all the sexy time I get—not really I'm married, but still, we set our main Alexa off all the time accidentally, IDK i want this thing chiming in during one of my rare me-and-wife-and-no clothes time.

agreed...I'm wondering if this is a special pre-order price or its just the regular price and an early buy in.
Yeah.  x2 on that.  I haven't pulled the trigger on anything, but I'm going to get a unit for the bedroom...just not sure if I get the new regular Echo or if I get the Spot...I don't want to wait too long and have them go up.

Just jumped on 1 Spot in black.

IDK if its going in the bedroom or not, but I have a few places i can place it...actually, if I like it, I can see 3 or more places it can be used.

Already have a dot in the kitchen and my office. Can see the Spot going well in the bedroom (with the alarm and news /weather briefing features), my office (replacing the dot with some better features) or in our new den (to link into the Ring doorbell view)

I also just heard that Sonos (our home music network) is getting very close to getting their software to work on Alexa's voice commands. As soon as that happens I may have a device in each room.

"Alexa, play Barry White"

"Alexa, dim the lights"

"Alexa, start video recording"

"Alexa, set 2 minute timer"

"Honey, I'm ready"

Just got the Dot this week from a meeting freebie. Nice novelty so far. Have it hooked up to Bluetooth speaker in kitchen so sound is good for music. I do like that it is small and not intrusive when we're not using it.

Can anybody recommend a good OUTDOOR camera that works well with Echo?  Our driveway is basically out of line-of-sight from our house.  The only way you can see it is from the upstairs guest bedroom.  I could see an Echo Spot paired with an outdoor wifi camera as a game changer...especially if it had some kind of motion notification that could light up the spot when it detected a car.

we have the Ring doorbell and they have a few camera and camera/spotlight combos that apparently work with Alexa. I don't have the doorbell linked to anything with video inside the house yet, but that's what I want the Spot for.

We are seriously considering getting the Ring flood light/camera combo.

Does Ring offer cloud back-up?  i.e. if somebody comes to my driveway, but I don't see it live, how can I revisit the event?

FYI, Sonos announced the new "Sonos One" ($199) which has "Alexa" built in. Very excited to have a great sounding Echo

Sonos One blends great sound with Amazon Alexa, the easy-to-use voice service, for hands-free control of your music and more. Use your voice to play songs while you cook. Tell Alexa to turn the volume up while you’re in the shower. You can even request a lullaby, out loud, when you’re tucking in the kids.

Ask Alexa to play music from these featured music services. Or pause, resume, skip or change the volume with all services available.

My son was telling me of a Youtube video he saw of someone asking Alexa if she would ever lie then asking if she was connected to the FBI. I don't have one. Someone wanna try it and report back?

Here's Alexa's response:

I always try to tell the truth, I'm not always right but I don't lie.

No, I work for Amazon.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine heard her bird talking to Alexa and came in just in time to stop him from placing an order She added a security code, which hopefully the bird won't also learn. There's a story of another one, in England, IIRC, who successfully ordered some gift bags.

Those parrots and their gift bags!  You can only hope to control them, cause you can't stop them.

Eh ####...just went to claim my invitation and it was for the "Look" not the "Spot"

The "Look" is the one that you put in your closet and it tells you if your outfit looks good or not. I don't need that. IDK how i got on the invite list for that, but I'm gonna let that one pass. I preordered the "spot" which is the small ball looking one. I cant keep these names straight. That won't be available until December.

does anybody know if the Amazon Show can give you a full month calendar view on a single screen.

my mother always had a wall calendar in the kitchen showing all the family events which was very convenient but I'd like to get the same but automatically updated to my iOS and Google calendars
