This is interesting. If you have a good dynasty team, it might actually work in your favor when you get a healthy Foster for the last month of the ff season or so.

I know if he is out for a while there will be a lot of talk about getting a RB that will replace him but I'll say it now: If Foster goes to IR, just let it go. This team with no AJ and no Foster and no proven QB isn't going to come close to replacing the ff points we have grown accustomed to. This will be a bad team that will only show signs of life when the defense can get it done.

Blue is not the answer. You aren't going to replace Arian Foster and what he can do. Sure, you can run 30 times a game and make serviceable ff points but Blue is not that good. There is a disconnect in what people think they are getting when they "replace" Foster and what they actually will get.

Disappointed in the news. 1 less guy in the first 2 rounds for someone else to take. This is going to be a really bad team with/without Foster.

Unless Blue goes in double digit rounds now, he'll be on someone else's team. I easily can see him being beat out by another RB on the Texans (or currently not on the team).

The problem is he about 3.1/ypc and doesn't catch the ball so the only way he is going to get enough run (literally) to be fantasy-friendly is if the Texans are running a lot of plays and this team is not going to be good enough for that.

I'd rather have a guy that can catch or a guy that can knock a homerun with some frequency or a guy that can actually make some of his own yards and get that ypc up around 2.0+ vs. 3.0. Blue is none of those things.

Then, in addition, the real killer is Foster's not out for the year so just when you NEED a high-volume RB, you won't have one because the nano-second Foster can play, he's going back in.

Not going to happen. The owner has said one of the things they won't tolerate in a player is abusing women. And this was said a couple of seasons prior to last year's NFL implosion about the subject.

This is probably where I am too. I've probably watched Polk more as a returner than as a running back so I'm not going to try to speak much towards him. But Blue just seems like he doesn't have any glaring weaknesses nor any glaring strengths either. A capable enough guy to come in for a few snaps and not get your QB killed or stall a drive.

But I don't think from a fantasy perspective he is going to do a lot unless he gets a ton of carries. And I don't think he's good enough to keep an offense moving if the ball is in his hands that much. If defenses key on stopping him, I don't imagine he'll have a lot of success barring an amazing job the O-line.

Not sure if I am answering the question but I'm seeing posts that say if it is applied, he will be eligible for week 10.

Here's what I found on quick search..

Starting in 2012, the NFL and the NFLPA reached an agreement allowing one player placed on injured reserve to be brought back to the active roster.[3] Provided that the player was on the final 53-man preseason roster (A rule exempted for the 2012 season), and that the injury is deemed to keep this player unable to practice or play football for an estimated six weeks, the player may be allowed to practice after Week 6, and be activated to play after Week 8.[4]

Teams may also place a player on injured reserve with a minor injury designation, but the team must release the player once he is healthy.[5]

So for the column labelled as "3" at the top, it turns out RBs averaged 3 yards or more on 55% of their carries. Foster was 56% so gets a 1% in that column. Blue only got 3 yards or more on 45% of his carries so gets a -10% there.

Without looking, I seem to recall he was a bit unhappy at not being signed, but I don't know that he did much to burn bridges.

Interestingly, Tate's numbers from last year in that view I posted of Chase's, are as bad as Blue's are. But obviously things went different for him in Cleveland.

I am thinking Foster's final contract year could be on the line based on whether he can come back healthy before the season ends and show he's still productive at his old level.

He has a $9.3m cap hit in 2016. If released, there would still be a $2.3m cap hit (which could be split over 2 years) but it would be a $7m cap savings overall. At the time of his extension I didn't think he would see the final year of his contract. But if he was healthy and producing at last year's level he probably would.

He might be motivated to come back the end of this year and show he's productive to keep from getting released. Which could still happen just due to injury risk, but a good end of the season would help Foster's case.

My best guess is they sign Chris Johnson. He's the anti-Foster health-wise, playing 111 of a possible 112 games in his career (only missed in his rookie year). He's nearly 30 and far from special these days, but he's a vet who knows the game and can produce for a season. His ypc last year was 4.3, he can catch the ball. He understands pass protections. I think a real good chance he gets the call.

I'd love to hear what's going on behind the scenes with these vet RBs. I suppose if any team pays them what they want, they'll play, but Dallas still has to be spot #1 on all their lists. The Jones' have to be holding out for vet min type contract. A guy like McFadden is Foster light when it comes to being hurt. No way Dallas feels good about a Randle/Dunbar tandem when the inevitable happens, unless Gus Johnson is something. Interesting to see how it shakes out. This won't be the last RB to go down in the preseason.

Yea Blue is really underwhelming. Is there a bigger gap in talent in all the NFL between a starter and his backup? Trying to think of one. Forte/Carey perhaps...

Like others have been posting, I doubt Blue is even the starter come week 1.
