Because he wasn't in Tampa. Why?I just can't believe Wade Davis is this good.
Because he was so very mediocre with the Rays. Why?I just can't believe Wade Davis is this good.
Traded for him on July 31. Just in case Gordon or Rios wouldn't be back in time for the playoffs. Hasn't been on an active playoff roster.Holy #### Johnny Gomes is on this team? No way.
Was at best mediocre as the Royals fifth starter, too. He was a throw-in with the Shields trade. Royals tried him in the bullpen pretty much out of desperation. Started pitching the 8th inning and suddenly bats were allergic to his pitches.Because he was so very mediocre with the Rays. Why?I just can't believe Wade Davis is this good.
In KC mediocre = magic.Because he was so very mediocre with the Rays. Why?I just can't believe Wade Davis is this good.
This does throw some water on the nerd takeover. Two of the foremost baseball minds, meeting on the emerald chessboard for eternal bragging rights.
Shouldn't have been a HR btw.
Shouldn't you be complaining that the World Series won't have any of the top three teams record-wise in MLB? I mean, the team with the 4th most wins playing the team with the team with the 6th most wins? What a sham, right?I enjoyed attending that game, wild range of emotions. Some yosting, some serious sweating. How they couldn't get a run in the ninth still baffles me.
Bring on the Mets
I'm not sure if I ever want to find out how far that horseshoe penetrated Ned Yost. The replays left it as an open issue. The layout of the fence and rail, and the shadows there at night make it look weird. That ball was either over the fence or skipping across the top of it. Not by much, and if I wasn't familiar with Kauffman's layout from being there in person many times I would be skeptical, too.Two of the foremost baseball minds, meeting on the emerald chessboard for eternal bragging rights.

I admit I don't know the specifics of the rules on a play like that and I didn't have audio of the game going. Had the play been ruled fan interference, how would the outcome changed? Ground rule double? Out? Do-over?
The Mets are a sham in the NL. But baseball asks for this type of stuff by not having balanced schedules and having leagues with different rules... not to mention ridiculously short playoff series.. 5 games? What a joke. 7 games is BARELY acceptable. The founding fathers of baseball knew 9 game series were where it's at.Shouldn't you be complaining that the World Series won't have any of the top three teams record-wise in MLB? The Royals were the 1 seed in their conference. They aren't a sham.
They were a sham last year.
I still vehemently disagree with the entire way the MLB is setup, but I can't change it... so all I can do is root for my team.
Prior to the Cespedes trade, for example, the Mets were 53-50. Following the trade, they went 37-22. Over that same time frame, KC went 34-26. Why do you think comparing overall regular season standings is meaningful? Do you know how the Blue Jays did before they acquired Price and Tulo? Do you think they were a better team at the end of the season or the beginning (obviously excluding Price in the postseason)? The Mets are a sham in the NL. Great article. Also explained why the Royals were prepared to try to score Cain from first on Hosmer's single. They knew Bautista would spin and throw to second on the fly, too high for the ball to get cut off. The play caught Tulo by surprise, too - he checked in on Hosmer to make sure he was heading back to first, but wasn't prepared for Cain trying to score and was late getting rid of the ball. Also some stuff about Price having a near Lester-esque level of avoidance of throwing to first. Once the Royals figured that out, Price was easy to read with a runner on first. Sending Hosmer off Price's first movement during the 7th in Game 2 kept that rally going and got in Price's head.Don Quixote said:Verducci with a great article on the Royals' win, and their scouting of the Blue Jays. Price was apparently tipping his change-up: http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/10/24/royals-blue-jays-alcs-clinch-pennant
