With my playoff pitching absolutely tanking (Young, Lincecum, Hamels, Hudson, Garza) this guy has been unreal. Every time I look he homers. 7 RBI tonight alone. Hopefully he will carry me into the second round.
Good thing the Tigers got rid of him. They really have no need for a left handed power hitting first baseman, what with Sean Casey and all... Who the #### knew?

Don't forget, the Rays had already assigned Pena to minor league camp at the end of March. The only reason he made the club was that stiff Greg Norton hurt himself in the outfield the next day and the club was in dire need of a left handed bat on the bench. NOBODY could have seen this coming. All of the credit goes to hitting coach Steve Henderson who helped to show Pena that it is actually OK to hit a ball to centerfield and left field instead of being the pure pull hitter that he had been in the past. A lot of teams are trying to work him away right now and you can still get him out on good off-speed stuff on the outside but if you miss with a fastball, it will be crushed. He has hit a few line drives off the fence in right field that were held to singles because he hit the ball so damn hard.

Huge break for the franchise. They had absolutely nothing in the minors ready to take over 1B. Maybe the only spot in the organization with no depth or potential star, and they end up with a guy going for 40 homers and 120 ribs.GB the future of this team.
