I haven't played a full game of chess in years, so I am probably not very good. But I'd enjoy playing and helping some of you improve your scores.

I am losing pretty consistently whilst reading a little strategy content here and there. Until downloading chess time about 2 mo. ago I hadn't played a game of chess since Battlechess for my SNES in the 90's.

I can also help you boost your score.. i'm sub 1200 (the score they give you starting out)

I do prefer to play the 1 move per 2 days i frequently play more often, but like the flexibility of not making a move on a day when i'm busy

I quit playing when I started playing Warlight... maybe I'll sign up and get in on this.

The best site I saw for strategy help was the Exeter Chess Club - their handouts were great, though it looks like their website format has changed, so I'm not sure where to find what I used to like.

Again, I play Blitz chess almost exclusively in ICC, which is a pay site, if any fbg are on ICC, feel free to hit me up. Their tablet and phone apps are both phenomenal.

Bender crushing me right now. Clearly not a weekend warrior like me..

It is weird to have 9 games going at once. Especially when people are moving fast, you have to regroup every single time you pull up a new board.

Cool app tho. I dig it.

Lol. I'm up to 5. This is nuts.

Nice work finagling outta that queen trap. Was working on that for like 6 moves. Lol I'm dumb.

dot.

I already find myself making quite a few blunders when trying to keep up with the three games I have going, may as well add more. :excited:

Yeah thanks. I don't know if you noticed, but I was losing and took one last prayer shot at a win. When I put my queen out there as bait, you could take it with the knight or queen. My only hope was that you would use the queen and that would have exposed your king to my rook at a long range strike. Two moves to mate. You used your knight. :kicksrock:

Gg. Bender is really tough. As is Dentist.

Otis has destroyed me every time after his warm up game where I blew him out as I think he was re-learning the ropes.

And otis moves FAST.. and a lot... so we've knocked out like 5 games since this weekend.

I really need to check out a few strategery articles.... all i've read so far is an article on the 10 best opening moves... and i think otis read the same damn article.

ETA:

Haven't played in a decade...will have quite a bit of rust to knock off.

Man, I'm really not good. Pretty much every game has me thinking "WHAT THE #### IS HAPPENING?!?!?!" within about 6 moves.

I could probably just try but I thought I'd ask instead. Can I sync my games between iPad and iPhone? On the iPhone, I can't clearly see how badly I'm getting my ### kicked. I need a bigger screen.

OK, so it works. Now I need to go get an iPad stand so I can prop this up next to my screen during the day to multitask for the next three weeks while we all play with vigor and then forget about it. :RIPPokerThread:

Strategy is simpler at our level than one would think. Learn Kings Pawn opening only for now if you're an aggressive player.

Learn the Queens pawn opening only for now if you're a conservative defender.

If black, learn the Sicilian Defense to play against Kings Pawn

And I have no suggestion vs. Queens pawn.

For pawns: control the middle

For rooks: get them on open files should be your top strategy

For bishops: get them on long open diagonals that point at the opponents king

For knights: look up some common forks that are easy to identify. The Queens rook fork is the easiest to execute and tough to defend if it's not prepped for.

For newer guys, trade Queens when possible. It simplifies the game by getting that dominant piece off the board.

I'm no grandmaster, but have been playing since I was in kindergarten. Tough game, but those are your best things to start with, and rather easy to learn.

Last few easy things...

Learn how valuable pinning pieces can be (even pawns).

Where you are getting equal value, force your opponents to double up pawns on the same files.

And Abe... Watch out for the scholars mate!

Skip Sicilian - leads to passive games with too much nuance. Make it a straight-up fight in the middle.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about in here. I do know that the 12 games I'm now playing are too many and I'm starting to make stupid mistake...

yeah, i can't believe you just let me rape your queen.

I have 9 games going, and as soon as i complete these i'm cutting it back to 4 or 5 tops.

About 6-7 years ago, I was playing multiple online games a day, and built up a pretty solid rating. Haven't played in years, and am likely very rusty. But, I'd enjoy getting back into it.

WTH....

yankee23fan is up and running. (Is this is where I post that I sat 3rd chair on my high school chess team one year? yeah, I did. And I was really only 3rd chair because 4th and 5th were basically monkey's in a human suit brain wise and got ropped into doing it. )

Shortcorner: you play such a non traditional game that you might win simply because I have no idea what the hell is going on.

The kamikaze pawn Gambit has me scratching my head here.

yeah, i just got blind sided as well, really came out of nowhere

In. Username shuke. I'm not good. Like I know the rules, but nothing about basic strategy.

Heh... six games enough for now. Shocked that I got through the first X moves in all of them without feeling like I've made a huge mistake.
