***OFFICIAL Chicago Bears 2010*** (1 Viewer)

Any word on whether Knox or Manning will be returning kick-offs? Auction tonight in a return league and either becomes an intriguing pick if they are returning kickoffs ...

Here's a good Bears draft statistic. 3 offensive linemen drafted in the top 5 rounds since 2003. Wonder why that's always our problem. Idiots

Pretty sure Manning is going to be the kick returner and Hester the punt returner

Cutler lights it up yardage wise and Hester has 1 catch. Keep pushing that lie, Lovie.

I know a win's a win, but I have difficulty enjoying this one. Obviously, for one, Detroit got screwed. Secondly, we almost lost to Detroit with their backup qb in the game. :D I knew we wouldn't be very good, but I didn't think we could lose to Detroit with Shaun King at the helm. :bag: Geez. The ineptness of this franchise has never ceased to amaze me throughout my life. You're horrible, Bears, and I'm embarrassed to be a fan. :bag:

I enjoyed Lovie's call to go for it on 4th and goal while trailing in the 4th quarter. Didn't he see the Bears get stuffed in short yardage enough in this game and last year? Dumb call. Bears were lucky. Of course, why the Bears weren't doubling Johnson in that situation is ridiculous as well. At least Forte is healthy.

Positives:

- The D looks very good with Urlacher and Peppers in the fold

- RBs look very good with both Forte and Taylor very good at catching outlet passes and making big plays out of them

- The theory that Martz will not use Olsen is a bunch of crapola

- Cutler is one tough SOB and his ability to scramble, evade pressure and run for 1st downs is huge

Negatives:

- Cannot make boneheaded plays like the 2 fumbles from Forte and Olsen

- Cannot make boneheaded coaching calls like the last defensive 3 deep call where Johnson got 1:1 coverage. I had no problem like the 4th and goal call....you play to win the game. And at worse you get the Lions starting at the 1 with no ability to move the ball against the Bears D.

- OL needs to continue to gel. While Suh and Vendenbosch are good additions to the Lions, I want to see the Bears OL improve to have a chance against good pass rushing teams, especially when the Bears go on the road

How? They had been stoned 3 times in a row. The defense was killing the Lions. All they needed to do was take the lead. I'd like to hear Lovie's reasoning behind the call. Did he all of a sudden trust his OL to make a play after they had just been stoned 3 times in a row. About time to take the points and the lead and lean on the strong part of your team, which is the defense. No reason to think the defense couldn't do their job at that point. They had been dominating. Going for a 4th and 1 is only done in extenuating circumstances, none of which involves you being able to take the lead with your defense dominating the game. Lovie, I'm waiting patiently. :goodposting:

I think it comes down to the Bears' d-line play. If they can put pressure on Romo it will help alleviate the substantial mismatch of Dal WR's over the Bears' secondary.

Funny. I think it comes down to the Bears offense, how many times they turn over the ball, how bad their running game is, how many blown chances they have in the redzone. I fully expect them to fulfill each of the criteria and get hammered

You mean to say that you don't like the idea of Zack Bowman on an island with Megatron with the game on the line???It's pretty remarkable that they still do stuff like that, even after being repeatedly burned on that over and over. Anyone remember Chris Thompson on Steve Smith in the playoffs? :X At least they had some safety help on him the next two plays. Clearly, Shaun Hill just thought: "#### it, I'm just going to heave it up on Calvin's side of the field and hope something good happens." Not a terrible plan, really.

And yes, going for it on that 4th and goal was a bad call. I would have much rather they went for it in the 1st quarter than in the 4th quarter when the alternative is a 99% chance at taking the lead with ~8 minutes left. I wasn't a fan of the play calling in that series, either.

On the bright side: they probably aren't going to fumble it 3 times every game (whereas you can probably count on at least one Cutler INT a game). Without those fumbles, the game isn't really close. Fumbles seem to be somewhat random, at least on a team-wide level.

And lastly: Greg Olsen is still soft, and still is exceptionally mediocre.

Roy Williams scares you? What did he do with Det when he played against us all the time? Oh right, nothingDez Bryant has done what in this league? That's right, nothing.Does the match up of Peppers, Briggs, Urlacher, Tommie Harris, Anderson against that Cowboys OL not get you excited? I am not guaranteeting the Bears win since winning on the road is difficult in this league, but I am not scared of this Cowboys O. Unless Colombo comes back and is actually effective....I am still upset we let Colombo go after being so patient with him through his injury. He would look really good on the Bears right now

For someone who is bragging about real life football, obviously you lack some degree of statistical objectivity. Let me help you. The Bears dominated.... let me repeat dominated the game against the Lions to the tune of ~460 yards to ~160 yards. The reason is was a close game was because of the 2 dumb fumbles. You think Forte and Olsen will be fumbling the ball away every game???? OTOH, the Redskins just beat Dallas and that Dallas OL looked horrible. Who will block Peppers and Tommie Harris next week? Playing at home will help Dallas (compared to the road game vs Skins), but to assume the Bears will get hammered like your previous hyperbole is nothing but a bunch of exaggeration.

A lot of coaches go for it to try and win the game than settle for a FG and be susceptible to losing to a FGby the Lions late. At worse, which is what happened, the Lions have to punt back to Bears with good field position. History is full of coaches making these calls....remember Belichik just last year vs Colts? I have seen Shanahan make calls like this. I have seen Parcells make calls like this.

Agreed. I honestly think that Martz/Tice needed to see, with the positive strides the O-Line has taken in the off season notwithstanding, if the O-Line/RB could get it done in a for realz game situation. Now they know for sure that even with Tice's wizardly blocking schemes the O-Line doesn't have the horses to power run on the goal line.

If that is really the rationale for that move, then why didn't they just do that when they were faced with the identical situation in the 1st quarter, when they weren't losing, and they had 3+ quarters left to play? Wouldn't that be a better time to "experiment" with the short yardage game without risking much? They didn't try that in the 1st when the game was 0-0, but they do for it when they're down by 1 in the middle of the 4th? Like Billick said during the game, they "opted not to take the lead." It was an option that they could have simply taken the lead for a nearly impossible to miss FG! Would you like to take the lead for free, or would you rather gamble on an underperforming OL and a rushing game that was underwhelming all game in the hopes of gaining a little larger lead?

It would be one thing if you didn't trust your defense, and the Lions were marching all over them the whole game. That was not the case, though. In fact, their starting QB was knocked out of the game, making the risk of the Lions regaining the lead even less likely.

Of course, the Lions did end up marching down the field after the Bears scored later, but I think that was largely due to some terrible prevent-like defensive play calling, and the aforementioned single coverage on Calvin. It was a sloppy game by the Bears players with the all of the turnovers and penalties, but it was a pretty poorly coached game as well. They definitely deserved to lose, even without considering the Process call.

WOOT! Awesome to beat the Packers. A few things:

-Glad to see they only allowed 3 sacks, as bad as that sounds. GB knows how to sack the qb

-The defense continued with the bend but don't break mentality. Very frustrating at times but seems to be working so far

-Peppers is BEASTING!

-Cutler better get his head on straight. That was not a good game for him, not as bad as last year but not good

-Defense better start getting some sacks

Even as a Bears fan, I never expected us to be 3-0. Pretty damn cool

They should cut the entire O line to prove a point. Hell, they already put in a 7th rounder last night. Just get rid of all of them. I wish bad things upon them

More good luck for the Bears. Shaun Hill broke his index finger on his throwing hand and will be out next week, leaving Drew Stanton as the starting qb making his 2nd career start.
