The Colts gave up on history, their players, their fans, and messed with the integrity of the AFC playoff race today.

I'm a huge fan of Peyton Manning but for the first time I can recall I will be rooting for Bill Polian's Colts to get their collective asses handed to them in their first playoff game. Yes, the organization has earned the right to do what they wish. They just made the wrong call today and I hope it costs them again when it matters most.

Completely agree. I don't see the point of pulling him after playing almost 3/4th of the game. If you don't want to risk injury, then pull him after the 1st series. As they stated in the booth, the guy has played 12 seasons, never missed a game, and you want to pull him with a lead so late in the game? Let him try and score once more and THEN pull him. Pretty disappointed in that decision. I don't usually root against the Colts but I will this post-season. I'll also add that you can tell that Peyton and Dallas Clark looked frustrated on the sideline and not happy with the decision. I think that decision is going to cause that team more trouble than it helped.

How would this cost them a playoff game?

It was more stupid than cowardly. If you really believe in rest - then play Peyton one series and yank him. Don't go halfway like this - putting poor Curtis Painter in an awful position.

Unbelieveable..what a shame for the fans and mostly the players to be pulled with a chance of history in front of them....

They pulled Peyton because...why? Because they were afraid he'd get injured. That's the only explanation. In other words, cowardly decision. No other way to spin this Colts fans. Your coach is an effing coward.Good luck in the playoffs. Never had an ounce of hate for the Colts until now. What a Nancy play.

I wasn't sure how I felt about this when it happened, but I agree w/ y'all. Both bad form and very poorly handled. It sure looked to me like the starters for Indy were pissed, too. And I agree about Painter being put in a miserable spot. Again, piss poor handling.

You know that they didn't just pull Peyton, right? And they rested some starters who could have played if it was the playoffs.

How would you have handled it? Left the starters in the whole game?I also feel bad for Painter, the kid obviously is not very good. Sorgi, the Colts regular backup is on IR.

You were referencing Peyton getting benched. Thought from your post you only had a problem with that move.

He (Peyton) is shorthand for the entire fiasco and giving up on the game and perfection. Pitiful.

Either a token series to start the game or left him (and anyone else not hurt) in for the whole game. ;)

I can see this argument.

Yeah terrible call. It should be up to Manning. He carries this team year in and out. Not up to a coach who only got his job because of Dungy. Caldwell couldnt get a job as HC at half the colleges let alone the NFL.

I mean, for a number of reasons:-Going for immortality and the injury risk is minimal. Manning hasn't missed a game, ever.

-Integrity of the game

-Putting Painter into that situation is just miserable. The kid has never had a snap in the NFL and now the fact that they lost the chance for perfection, some will say he failed.

-Momentum

-As for resting your starters in general...they do have a bye week in 2 weeks, no?

Texans fan here who is pissed!

That being said, we should have beaten Jacksonville, Indy, NYJ, etc. and not been in this position. The Colts can do what they want. Good luck to them in the playoffs.

So you hate the Colts because they yanked Peyton Manning or because you had Peyton Manning in your lineup in fantasy football? The Colts told everyone up front that they were going to yank players, so it was buyer beware with any Colts. The Colts have one thing on their mind and that's to win the Super Bowl. Not to make fantasy football owners happy, but to get to the SuperBowl and into the playoffs healthy but to also give their starters time to play so that they stay sharp. I'm not sure I like it, but it's part of the game. One thing I do agree with is the Colts EARNED the right to do what they want. They won football games when everyone else was losing, so they don't owe any team anything in terms of having to beat other teams down the stretch. Each team needs to take care of their own business and the Colts already did there's. This was not about fantasy football.

Not to mention the teams that were counting on Indy to win this game (Pitt being one of them). Aside from that though, it was a cowardly move. Not only do you piss off your fans, but you introduce the world to Curtis Painter. Real good entertainment for the fans that came to see a good game en route to 15-0.

Caldwell has the worst grey goochi mustache I have ever seen and I hope the Colts get their asses handed to them in the playoffs. I usually have a lot of respect for the Colts, but this changed my mind pretty quick.

ETA - I did have T Jones in my fantasy championship, but I am talking in real life terms here. Also, if/when the Steelers miss the playoffs, they have no one to blame but themselves for losing to the Raiders, Browns, and Chiefs. I understand that. It sucks to have an opponent get a free pass though.

Why would it be up to one player? If that were the case, that ship would go down so fast it would make your head spin. Peyton Manning is a great quarterback but don't make him out to be Superman, he's just one guy. I wouldn't underestimate the job Caldwell's done this year just because it's his first year, there's been a lot of first year coaches who've screwed up a good thing when they had it.

You're being a bit presumptuous to think my (or anyone else's) opinion is FF related. I had no fantasy horse in this decision whatsoever. Caldwell has jobbed his team of the potential at immortality. Did the same with his fans. And, possibly worse than anything...he's told his team to take 3 weeks off and play without intensity or rhythm. Going for perfection...at minimum...ensures that they are playing meaningful games through the end of the regular season. Now, it's all exhibition. Those who do not learn from history...As the poster above said perfectly...shame on the Colts, and Caldwell, specifically.

Not to mention the teams that were counting on Indy to win this game???? Are you kidding me? Shame on any team that has to count on anyone else. Sure it happens, but those teams will be the first to tell you that somewhere along the way, they blew it themselves. To blame the Colts for Pittsburgh's in ability to make the playoffs this year is ridiculous and much more of a cowardly move than anything the Colts did today. Indy owes nothing to Pittsburgh or anyone else.

They did this to the Browns 2 years ago. I hated it then, and I hate it now. I understand the thought process of "you should have won more games", but at least the Steelers beat 8 real teams trying to win games and didn't have any handed to them like the Jets just did.

How about PIT earning all of their wins, while the Jets had one handed to them? I see what you're saying, but it still ruins the integrity of the game if you ask me.

I did edit my post above. They shouldnt have to count on Indy. I know that. Pitt lost to some bad teams. When they need all the help they can get, it just sucks to see this though. From the Indy fan perspective, I would be pissed at this as well though.

Why do you think it's all Caldwell? You think this first year coach is making all these big decisons without a little help from behind the scenes? That GM was on NFL Network 2 weeks ago and he said for the JAX game, that he didn't they would play the entire game. They played that entire game down to the wire, I was surprised to see that.Dungy said before that JAX game that he thought Peyton Manning would only be in for 2 series and then be out, so the Colts as far as can see are playing their players more than what they said initially they would when they clinched. If the Colts are the best team, they'll win the SB regardless of sitting any players. If SD or some other team is better and able to beat Indy in the playoffs, then it's because they're better and would have won regardless. That GM took the Bills to 4 straight SuperBowls and has led Indy to winning a SB with many playoff appearances, they know what they want and that's a healthy team. Apparently they're willing to risk a perfect season for entering the post season with a healthy team.

Well if pitt was counting on indy to win the game then they are the ones that are pathetic. I'm also pretty sure they were not counting on indy to win the game. Teams usually only count on things they can control. Coaches probably understand more than anyone that protecting your players is a responsible position to take. Especially since they are the ones that get fired when the player gets injured in a game he doesn't need to be playing. I guess everyone's over reaction to this doesn't surprise me. Even though several reputable sports people were calling this all week long. including FBG.

I live in Detroit, so I know all about having a perfect season, we had ours last season. I know what you're saying as well, but let me say all will be forgotten if the Colts win a SB. The only reason I wanted the Colts to win was because I can't stand those 72 Dolphins always bragging about their season that wasn't as long as today's season but w/e, that team wasn't the best of all time either.

Feel free to name Bill Polian by name. He's president, by the way. Not GM. But, whatever. I think we all know who he is.Caldwell said it was his decision. I'll take his word for it that he's the architect behind this crap.

Always have been a fan of the Colts since Dungy was their coach, but they played like cowards today and they deserve for the Bolts to march into their home and hand them a loss in the AFC Championship.

If they win the SuperBowl then most will consider them just another SuperBowl team...they weren't anything special or unique

If they go 19-0 with a SuperBowl win...they are immortal.

Every single player has got to want this...you would assume most coaches would to. Obv. Polian only seems to care about a SB and see's nothing special about being 19-0 and possibly the greatest team ever. Which is ######ed.

Even from a financial standpoint it makes sense to get 19-0 more so than just a superbowl win.

Peyton and Co. probably put up another 7-10 if they just finish the quarter or go into the 4th. Then u can sit em.

The Colts still have to worry about history now just a different kind of history. History has shown this is the wrong way to go about things at the end of the season.

You would think Polian would learn from the past that they were one and done when they did this in the past.

I don't think losing today will affect the Colts' chances of winning the Super Bowl. The starters played enough to prevent any rust from setting in.

If a starter had gotten injured in the fourth quarter, that would affect their chances of winning the Super Bowl. Maybe it would have happened and maybe it wouldn't have, but why gamble when you don't have to?

Many teams have won the Superbowl. But only one team in history has gone undefeated the whole season. Because of that feat, the 72 Dolphins, while certainly not IMO anywhere close to the best team in football history, have a legendary aura about them that will never be forgotten. They have achieved what every great athlete covets: immortality. If you have a chance at that, why would you give it up? Makes no sense to me.

Because you have the chance to go undefeated. Don't you think this has value in itself?

I think it does hurt their chances. They took a team that was on a tremendous roll and deflated the entire team.

To some people it does. It depends on what your goals are.
