*** OFFICIAL *** COVID-19 CoronaVirus Thread. Fresh epidemic fears as child pneumonia cases surge in Europe after China outbreak. NOW in USA (10 Viewers)

After a lifetime of coughing too much too long after getting sick or allergies, I was finally diagnosed with asthmatic reactive cough and prescribed a steroid inhaler...has really changed my life (when my insurance covers the one that works).

Dunno if that helps you and son or not, but happy to discuss further if you'd like.
My brother started having really bad coughs and shortness of breath 2 years ago when he started jogging afterwork for a light workout. He was diagnosed with Sports Asthma takes a steroid inhaler now. I had really bad asthma when I was younger on a nubulizer (SP) and everything. When I ended up with Bronchitis back in College My doctor noted my Asthma history and gave me a more advanced inhaler then typical prescribed for Bronchitis patients as a precaution. I also had Codeine and a bunch of other stuff. So as someone who's had Asthma I can relate to this.

The responses we've seen over the past couple of weeks seem crazy, but they give me hope that we can mitigate COVID-19's impact. Our local authorities are stepping up big.
It seems Italy may have scared people straight.  To be honest, we still haven't really seen any of the impacts of the virus affect the USA in a big way, so I'm a bit surprised at how quickly it's all shutting down.  It took awhile for the "just a flu bro" lunacy to die down, but it's dying down quick as people see the reality of the situation.

I agree that the virus can be mitigated, but the tricky part will be slowing this virus down or eliminating it, without totally destroying the economy.

Personally, while the news is concerning, especially over the past 4-5 hours, I feel that everyone needs to take a few deep breaths. We can and should take every precaution that we can, but we cannot be paralyzed by fear. That's no way to live. I've spent too much time worrying, so what I'm going to do is wake up in the morning, head to work, make some money, not electrocute myself, and not touch anybody. So everyone stop jumping on the panic button, get some rest, and wash your hands, you heathens!
I said this to IT Professor but my thinking is this will tamper off at some point. We'll hit a high and then eventually everything evens out. Test take what a week to comeback? We're still in our early stages of this compared to Europe and elsewhere who's had it already. We'll see a big jump in numbers over the next few days if not week then slowly but surely a decrease as proper measures are taken

“fred hoiberg woke up sick, is ostensibly aware of the state of the world, and walked into a large gathering of people to coach a 7-24 basketball team anyway.”

the amount of stupidity and selfishness here is staggering.
Is it? If we weren't in the state we are now I think people would say he was pretty selfish and putting his team first before anything else. Look I get the circumstances right now just saying if they were different people would be calling this differently
"If we weren't in a pandemic then people wouldn't be criticizing Hoiberg!"

Is that really what you're saying? Come on, man.

If there's a pandemic going on, and you're showing symptoms of the disease, you shouldn't be coaching. Period.

This isn't a difficult concept.

Sounds like the kids hit the lottery. Where was this when I was a kid?
Kids at my HS and MS Alma mater now get to use ipads and other cool gadgets in class. One of the math teachers already had his classroom set up with some of the higher tech stuff back then and back then was only 06 when I graduated. Hard to believe in my time from HS grad to now how fast things have advanced in the class room. Teachers and us use to dream of being able to learn from home on the computer.

And now you'll see the real run on store shelves.
Yep, I’m going right now. Tomorrow is going to be ugly.
Are you guys serious?  You're getting me close to panic mode
Yessir. Left at about 10:20 pm local (CDT) after catching up on the news. Grocery is open until 11 pm, and I closed the place down.

Bought enough to top off our small 10-ish day stash up to about 17-20 days. Paper products and pet supplies for about a month. Expect to want to shop in earnest again maybe the weekend of the 22nd.

Buckle up folks, I expect tomorrow to be as bumpy or even worse than today regarding cancellations, market drop, confirmed cases etc.
Not sure why people are so concerned of market drops The market dropping only effects those on Wall Street and those with significant stocks in play. Avg Joe like you or me it has no effect on.

Thanks.  He's a good guy.  Just relying on the wrong sources and too focused on his biz (which is getting crushed with cancellations).  Some of his myopia was likely wishful thinking.  Not an excuse, but an explanation.

Thx for the advice though.  Always worth considering how it may go bad
Thats good to hear. I'm in retail but I know a lot of upper management people (Thanks to people I'm friendly with who co workers moved up to higher places in management and beyond) so I've heard my fair share of stories there. I sometimes have to bite my tongue when listening to them talk business because I feel at times they are making the wrong choices and I'm usually right to them wrong. However I've also dealt with my fair share of upper management giving you lip service one day only to find a few days later thats all it was and they went the complete opposite.

Yeah always be prepared for both. When hrs are cut I'm fortunate to know two Store Directors in my district who if possible will give me extra hours at their stores that week if they can afford it. I'm also good friend with my District Manager who's kids I went to school with and his brother was my one manager and shop steward for yrs. And I frequented my DM's bar across the street from my current store when he was an SD. I've become pretty good at preparing for both. Just recently had to deal with my SD telling me hrs are cut yet giving more hrs and OT to people who have less yrs than me. Basically went to my shop Steward asking what gives and what I should do and he went directly to my one boss. Got what I wanted. Ive gotten close to the max hrs since then and just worked two doubles last week I wouldn't have had I not stood up for myself. And like you my SD is impressed when I do stand up for myself and my commitment at times. I just know he can quickly say cool great job to me one day and the next be all over my ### for something and lie straight up to my face on something.

I also understand it's hard for us all to communicate and work together as I have high functioning Autism. So I get at times I can be difficult to deal with. However there are people who I believe could do more to help theirs and mine situation with a bit more effort then half assing it to.

I don't even think that's the issue tbh. You gotta worry about people coughing/sneezing/even breathing within a small radius.
Gym is pretty empty so good there. The stuff lives on surfaces pretty long I believe as well so spraying the #### out of everything.

I just am looking at everything though as infected. I shoot hoops for about 10 minutes to warm up and the ball is just a bacteria magnet. Door handles, the weights, the floor.

Went to the dentist today, his office is about 500 feet from the Seattle area retirement home so I’m pretty much screwed at this point.

Everyone was ripping on @[icon] Past few weeks for being worried.  Now everyone wishing they were prepared.

got a spot open at your compound buddy?
Not going to lie — didn’t seem like a biggie,   say, early February. I remember one of my first posts in this thread was something like “Look how China had 60,000 cases, and the whole rest of the world has like 800.” :bag:

I wish I knew what the tell was back in January that got some people to realize it wasn’t SARS Part 2. Seems like this should’ve been seen coming from further out in time.

Florida added a few more, up to 26, including the 1st in Miami-Dade.  New cases linked to Daytona Bike week and a first responders conference in Tampa (EMS Today).

Florida had 147 coronavirus tests pending Tuesday night, according to health officials, and 301 people here have tested negative to date.

The state was monitoring another 476 people for signs of the illness.

Are you being sarcastic? You have no idea how many of your customers will cut their spending to compensate for their stock losses.

I don’t even remember a time when you didn’t take it seriously!  Reading the first 5-10 pages of the thread seems like a lifetime ago.

A high quality and very cheap set of resistance bands can keep you guys working out at home. I use them every day with some basic weights.
I got some good exercise bands. I've used them from my PT. I had a really bad knee issue (Thought I did something to my knee) that turned out to be from a weak hip from playing sports when I was younger (especially pitching.) Found out it was a common thing among guys my age. I use them really good stuff for exercise and you can do a lot with these bands. I also have a pair of small weights to use as well as a pull up bar.

The tell? For me? China locking down their cities. You don't blow up your economy on a whim. The motivation for that has be pretty legit. At least in my book. It was patently obvious that something was seriously wrong.

[Resisting huge urge to rant out of pure frustration. But I know not a small part of that is that my daughter is still at college cause the admin haven't woken up yet. Therefore everyone that hasn't woken up is guilty by association. Protector instinct kicking in hard]

I'm glad the local authorities are more stepping up and not taking the same steps or non steps as those above them in higher places. The travel ban to Europe should've happened weeks ago though. That would've been my first step.

That was definitely what got my attention.  But I firmly believed China was lying through their teeth for weeks. When the WHO released their 40-page report, that’s when the alarm bells really went off for me

I agree. Italy is under strict quarantine like people aren't allowed to leave homes and military Police are now helping local authorities with road blocks and shutdowns. PM Conte has gone all out now on this.

Like most of the big threads here I can't keep up totally. I read a few pages here and there. I really appreciate all the good info in here to keep informed. Even more so I appreciate the humor sprinkled through out. It helps to feel like you aren't the only one going through anxious unknown times and that there's a community of us spread out all over but yet in this together.

I hope everyone stays safe and their families and friends are left untouched by the worst aspects of the virus, as well as society's reactions to it.

Keep on keepin' on.

The band's name also seems appropriate.

There is no doubt in my mind that China knew stuff was spinning out of control long before it hit the news. Folks can dream about reasons why this is, I'll not feed into it. But China knew stuff was going south and reacted strongly and somewhat out of character. I can't believe that they came to the decision to lock people down easily. Maybe I just don't want to. It made be ask what motivated a decision that like that. I decided it was nothing good.

Maybe venture into the stock thread, everyone's life trajectory isn't the same. There's a lot of folks here with significant money at play in the market. Hell, before I pivoted last Monday I was down a decent size home with beachfront property in Central jersey after the first week or so of the slaughter

I'm not saying we shouldn't criticize the guy now thats no where close to what I'm saying. I'm more so saying circumstances different than people wouldn't be critiquing. It's more so proving how hypocritical people are at times. For example if Jordan played the "flu Game" today with this going on are people saying what warrior he was or what an idiot he was? He probably shouldn't have played either way but the point is people would be now criticizing him. You're always seeing people say wow what a trooper for so and so coming in sick or not well to work and getting this project in by the deadline. In the next few days half the office Is out sick now. People doing that now? Boy Joe Schmoe is a f'n idiot he's putting us all at risk!!!! What if he has COVID-19? Thats my point. The hypocrisy here.

The "saints forum" map weighs demographics/population much heavier than climate. Some hot muggy climates are high risk, and the bulk of limited risk zones are very dry climates, also very barren regions. Obvious but worth noting. I am in lowest risk but close to moderate risk, and we have the lowest humidity in the country.
Yeah, they have a lot more factors than just climate. Transportation patterns are modeled. A whole lot more that he never detailed.

Dude, that's not how hypocrisy works.

Oh don't get me wrong. I do the same at the gym. I spray down every thing. Lately as well I view everything like it's infected. I just worry about the air space.

Nurses are out with signs wanting more protective gear and supplies in a few cities here. So it's not just test kits that is short here.

What did you pivot to?

I'm woefully understocked on booze for this.  Luckily there's a 24-hour Safeway about a mile away.

Sad story that I just need to share somewhere:  my paralegal's dad had a heart attack today.  He lives in Germany; my paralegal is in LA.  She hasn't been able to get any information other than he's in ICU, and not even her mother is allowed to go see him due to coronavirus shutdown.  And now she can't go over to be with him and her mother as she is too fearful of being unable to return to the US, where she has a child whom she couldn't leave indefinitely.  Heart-wrenching.
I picked up another case of 1.75L of whiskey and another case of 1.75L vodka on the way home tonight.  That's in addition to the couple of cases a few weeks back and a couple hundred bottles of wine. Still a little nervous.

Sorry to hear about your friend's dad. :(

New Orleans has done a 180 regarding public events if the stuff I’m hearing/reading secondhand is true. All St Patrick’s events now cancelled. University of New Orleans and Loyola University going online only. Have to see about Tulane.

A little birdie told me that the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (Jazz Fest) is going to announce cancellation tomorrow. That’s six weeks out.

Are you being sarcastic? You have no idea how many of your customers will cut their spending to compensate for their stock losses.
I don't live in a rich area. I live in a decent area called the main Line in the Philly Suburbs. There's maybe 2 or so areas on the main line with highly wealthy neighborhoods and guess what? Our stores and other stores in those areas weren't doing great business and closed. Most of those people are going to Whole Foods and other upper class stores. The only people concerned with stocks are the crooks on Wall Street and big time CEOs. Stocks shouldn't effect Joe Avg or Karen from Fargo ND. It's just brainwashing to get people to panic. These are the clowns who let the economic collapse happen in recent yrs. They are nice to look at but avg Joe it doesn't effect his pockets as much as   John who has over 100K stocks in Oil. What should concern people is the federal reserve as we are printing out more money than we have causing the US dollar to suffer. to not clutter the thread we can go in length on this in the political forum. But to make the point its not stocks but how the US is printing more money than they really have in the federal reserve.

Watch the Movie Zeitgeist: The Movie By Peter Joseph. Yes there's gonna be some crazy things in there which I don't believe but it pretty eye opening on a lot of other things especially the federal reserve and goes into how Bush's Grandfather held Nazi Gold and money for them at his Chase Bank in NYC. Theres definitely some crazy conspiracy stuff like the 9/11 air exercises being a false flag and other stuff but the stuff on the Federal reserve and all is very eye opening and includes stuff on the stock market. The common misconception on why the Great Depression first happened was BECAUSE THE STOCK MARKET COLLAPSED. Not true. People just didn't trust banks and took all their money out of those banks. Banks can't survive without people putting money into them. The Depression didn't happen because Jason on Wall Street stock collapsed.

Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg has been released from the hospital and did not test positive for Coronavirus
Thats really good to hear. Like I said earlier I got no ill will towards the guy. My teams organization higher up completely F'd that guy over.

Wat? A lot of us have a significant amount in play
I mean I don't know many on here on this board. Compared to my old Baseball board there seems to be a little more people more "well off" (Not sure how to say this without someone being offended somehow) then what I'm accustomed to. If that makes any sense. Just a general consensus here I'm guessing most here make over 70K if not more on their own without a spouse included? I could be wrong in my estimate here and I only frequent certain threads so I'm not fully aware of everyone here. Please tell me if I'm off on any of this. I use to post periodically (mostly during football season) when my old board was around but after it went off the grid and shortly before when there was less traffic I started posting here more. That was 2 yrs ago a month ago now that past. So I haven't been on here many yrs. Just based on my readings of comments where kids go to college and all I think I can safely say people here are fairly well off don't live pay check to pay check etc etc. And again I don't mean any disrespect to anyone at all. I'm still considered fairly new here.

Based on my surroundings daily I don't know anyone with a significant amount of stock in the stock market to really care or would be an impact nor do care about the stock market in general. So many people in my every day life a stock market collapse does little to effect us.
