Two things I remember from before that I find noteworthy or interesting...

When Florida and Texas were opening up, how some were convinced massive waves of dead people would be coming.... it never did.

How all these people said that life would never be back to 'normal'. There are only two things I can see that are at all different now from before. First, if one of my kids are out of school for more than one day, they are required to get a COVID test... home test is fine... showing negative to come back. The second is that some medical offices/hospitals require masks of everyone, which I think just makes sense anyways. That is it.

Covid changed the way we work forever. That being said, I agree. There's a LOT of **** the experts got wrong. The media stokes fear and is you can see some people are more heavily influenced by the media than others.

Wait some of you guys are still wearing masks?

Join this forum and tell them what's up. There's a cohort of about 10-12 people over there who plan to mask in public for life (admittedly, all elderly and most have a close-family COVID death looming large).
Elderly dont give two ****s about what I think and they earned that right.

Neither does anybody else.
Why do you think is an appropriate thing to say on a message board, in a thread about this exact topic?

If people had simply updated their beliefs as new information rolled in, we would have reached the exact same equilibrium that we've reached today, only about 18 months earlier. Instead, people react with undistilled anger when you point out that there's little point in masking anymore.

This is true. It's possible that commenting on whether people wear masks or not can be influenced as well.

When I see someone wearing a mask, if I give it a thought, I usually assume that person is very vulnerable or has someone in their family that is very vulnerable. But I personally don't really care, people should do what they want. I don't mind. I figure that due to living in a fairly heavily populated area, there are always going to be a few. Doesn't bother me.

I don't begrudge the stragglers for the most part. Some people have a higher concern level than others. The reactions you're pointing out are over the top, I agree. The same way it doesn't bother me if people wear masks, it seems an extremist point-of-view to react with anger at the non-masking situation as well.

What does bother me most, in retrospect, is how we handled schools and younger populations. While kids can get COVID obviously, it's rare that it's severe. That should have been accounted for both in policy and in communication way more quickly in this ordeal.

Yeah I admit there are better people out there than me but when I see a person wearing a mask today (whether it be outdoors, in a crowd, in a car by themselves) I think of them as a buffoon. I think more people think like me IRL than think like you and a lot of people dont want to admit it on these boards. That being said, most people also think Im an ******* here and I am not gonna change anyones minds about that. So be it.

This issue greatly changed how I think about certain topics, but this isn't the forum for it. (Edit: It's not really political "red meat," but still.)

Picked up cv for what I suppose is second time on a flight or in travel last Wednesday. Symptomatic sat and sun but otherwise fine now. Got a rx for paclovid and about done with it.

Because it makes no sense for anybody to care if I choose to wear a mask. It doesn't affect anybody else whatsoever and is a completely pointless thing to get riled up about. Why even bring it up?

There's a LOT of **** the experts got wrong.

A LOT. Here's another that's been evident for a while, but the brainwashing on this was deep and powerful, unfortunately...

@robbystarbuck

Fauci’s NIH now lists IVERMECTIN as an antiviral therapy to treat COVID. The most recent study in Brazil of 88,012 people found Ivermectin cut the chance of COVID death by 92%. Now’s a good time to think about the censorship, pharmacy bans on it and hate people got for using it.

Keep in mind the "mask cult" thought people that didnt wear masks were the devil and trying to kill grandma for months. So this goes both ways. They need to stop acting all innocent here and pretending "they didnt care" back then either.

You aren’t doing your arguments any favor using “cult”. I’m sure you will reply you don’t care but you have to be in the top 10 frequent posters in this thread so you are either really board or want people to hear your thoughts on the subject. If it’s the latter then you are going about it the wrong way.

Here's another topic the MSM (and many many posters here) were and continue to be very wrong about...

CDC Finally Released Its VAERS Safety Monitoring Analyses for COVID Vaccines via FOIA

And now it's clear why they tried to hide them.

  • CDC’s VAERS safety signal analysis based on reports from Dec. 14, 2020 – July 29, 2022 for mRNA COVID-19 vaccines shows clear safety signals for death and a range of highly concerning thrombo-embolic, cardiac, neurological, hemorrhagic, hematological, immune-system and menstrual adverse events (AEs) among U.S. adults.
  • There are 96 safety signals for 12-17 year-olds, which include: myocarditis, pericarditis, Bell’s Palsy, genital ulcerations, high blood pressure and heartrate, menstrual irregularities, cardiac valve incompetencies, pulmonary embolism, cardiac arrhythmias, thromboses, pericardial and pleural effusion, appendicitis and perforated appendix, immune thrombocytopenia, chest pain, increased troponin levels, being in intensive care, and having anticoagulant therapy.
  • The safety signals cannot be dismissed as due to “stimulated,” exaggerated, fraudulent or otherwise artificially inflated reporting, nor can they be dismissed due to the huge number of COVID vaccines administered. There are several reasons why, but the simplest one is this: the safety signal analysis does not depend on the number of reports, but whether or not some AEs are reported at a higher rate for these vaccines than for other non-COVID vaccines.

I don't think it's particularly common to think that people wearing masks are buffoons.

You specified "outdoors, in a crowd, in a car by themselves**". Does that mean that in other situations besides those, you might more understand where a masker might be coming from?

** There's that 'in a car by themselves' thing again.

I know you know this but the vast majority of people did - like most things nowadays the masses spend time arguing about the outliers, frequently when they aren’t a part of either group.

I understand wearing one in a hospital or doctors office. WTF wants to get sick?

To be clear, my decision to wear a mask in a lot of settings isn't just COVID-based anymore. As I said previously, I haven't gotten so much as a cold in a few years, and for me, this is worth the tradeoff of wearing a mask. I also wash my hands a lot more these days. Again, nothing anybody should be getting riled up about.

Yeah I'm all for wearing a mask at the doctor's office. Makes total sense.

But walking around Disneyland? I saw a lot of them on Monday. I guess you do get fairly close to people in lines and whatnot, but man... walking around Disneyland with a mask on would make me dry heave.

Here in Oregon the only place I have worn a mask in the past year is at my Dentist office where it is still required

It's weird that a dentist office, of all places, would require masks. That's the only type of doctor's office where I don't wear one. Because once you sit in that chair, not only do you have to remove your mask while people stand in close proximity to your mouth and nose, there's a good chance your saliva is going to get heavily aerosolized.

At this point I only wear masks at doctor's offices/hospitals (where they're often required anyway) and on planes. I freely concede the plane thing may not be totally rational. I think it's mostly about sitting in close proximity to strangers for an extended period. Also, I recall pre-Covid that getting sick after a flight was a thing that often happened, though not generally to me.

I think it is a good thing to have the socialized acceptance of masking now as Asia has had. It has nothing to do with COVID for me but just the courtesy of wearing one when sick (regardless of what illness) and for those that have extra reason to be super extra careful of getting sick can wear them.

Same thing for Hospitals. It makes sense and it has nothing to do with COVID.

I am quick to notice people who are still wearing masks and laugh at them in my head. So yes, I am with Jobarules here.

Yeah. Hospitals and still planes/airports for me. Sometimes trains if I remember and it's crowded. See people wearing them daily in other settings like grocery stores, offices, and other stores. Not sure why I would care.

Glad I opted out..

Seems odd to laugh at what is a very common occurrence these days. I don't wear a mask, but I encounter dozens of people every day who do. It doesn't even register as something out of the ordinary
By far the bigest laughs come from people wearing a mask driving by themselves in a car.

I dont laugh at them but I do shake my head, mostly at the ones driving by themselves in their own vehicles. I also shake my head at the ones walking outside in fresh air in open space near no one.

Old me would have made fun of them

Older me really doesn't care enough to judge anyone or think more than .05 seconds if i see someone in a car with a mask. I don't know that persons story - if they are scared, think they are helping or what. I'm not perfect and I won't judge someone over something so benign

They aren't hurting anyone so live and let live. Same for people that really like "x" something I can't understand someone liking (say Harry Potter)..... old me would make fun of "the dorks". Now someone likes something i don't get - so be it. Who am I to judge

Wait some of you guys are still wearing masks? This is insanity. Ive been to the doctor 3 times in the last week and nobody is wearing masks anymore, patients, doctors, nurses, receptionist...

I think its time to get past your fears man. This is some PTSD youre suffering from.
I'm sitting at a local hospital where my wife has a doctor's visit. First time wearing a mask in over a year.
Same. My SO just had a full abdominal hysterectomy so I had been masking up at the store and crowded places leading up the surgery (and after). And masks were required here in PDX at the Providence hospital.

our building still has to mask if our area is high transmission rate

Hospitals I am ok with it being mandatory. All other places optional. Pre-covid it would have been weird to see someone wear a mask... basically socially not acceptable. Now, I don't think people care one way or another if someone else is wearing a mask. COVID normalized it like it has been normalized in Asia for a long time. Not feeling well? Wear a mask if you have to out. Have a medical issue or someone at home has one that you want to take extra precautions? Wear a mask.

My wife is fighting breast cancer right now. We have gone to a couple of nearby hospitals for tests/appointments and then a medical building... not a hospital but run by a hospital... for her treaments. Also, my son had a Doctor appointment... kind of an doctor office/out patient campus run by a hospital. All require masks.

Went to a doctor office for me and no one was wearing them and not required.

Just went to the pediatric dentist for my kids and there was no mask requirements at all for kids or me but the staff all were masked up.

Nobody's kicking you out for not wearing a mask. You're choosing to do so which is fine but let's be honest here.

False demonization of Ivermectin and VAERS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> wearing a mask in a car by yourself.

I'm in Oregon and see plenty. Definitely more not wearing than wearing but I'd say it's 75/25 in busy indoor locations. Enough mask use that laughing at people in your head who are wearing masks would be an odd take here.

I've also noticed that mask usage by employees at stores and other places has gone way up over the last few months. I wonder if they had so many people calling in sick that the owners started encouraging it to avoid staffing problems. Or they just used common sense since their jobs put them in contact with so many people.

I live in Oregon and I may see 5% people tops indoors wearing a mask indoors. Probably closer to 1-2%.

Dozens every day? Come on man.
I work in a children's museum. Nearly every floor staff wears a mask. Two people on my team wear a mask. One of our VP's has all sorts of ailments - she wears one. So maybe 12-15 at my work alone. Then in my day to day travels (to grocery store, hardware store, on the bus/train, etc) I for sure see at least a dozen more. You are in NYC, if you went and walked outside or in a large office building you for sure would see dozens too.

In NYC it's like 1%. No way is it 25%

I have been to two different doctors offices in February and both require masks at all times.
I've been to more health care facilities than I care to list in the last 10 months, and every nurse, PA, doctor, hospital aide, and physical therapist has worn a mask. Masks are required in all those places, except in the last several months the physical therapy place dropped the requirement and usage went to about 50/50.

And when it's 50 degrees or below I wear one in the car (until it's heated up enough) and outdoors to warm up the air I breath, resulting in fewer sore throats than I got in pre-masking days. If that triggers someone, it's just immaturity on their part.

I mean to highlight the difference between today and 2020.

In house covid + would have held both kids home for up to two weeks in virtual school, with PCR testing to clear a return.

Today. Don't even ask for masking, or testing.

I just got back from the grocery store and counted about 20 people masked including two of the three checkers. Fairly typical here. Hardly 1%.

That said, I do think mask usage is regional. I'm in Portland, and I'm pretty sure as soon as you take one step outside of the city in any direction, mask usage plummets.

The one building in Philly actually had a security guard that wouldn’t admit you past the lobby if you didn’t wear one. But sure.
