***OFFICIAL*** Dallas Cowboys 2014 In Season Thread (1 Viewer)

On paper, this season seems to have 6-10 written all over it.

The last two years had 10-6/9-7 written all over them and they went 8-8.

Maybe this is the year they actually overproduce as opposed to being underwhelming. I think the defense will actually be better than they were last year. Losing Ware doesnt hurt much in my opinion. He wasnt a good fit for this defense at all and he really struggled. It will look like a bad move when he has a great season in Denver but he is a great fit for their defense and he will get plenty of rest. I hate seeing the guy leave but he just wasnt getting the job done. I have faith in Marinelli coaching this team up. I think they will be underwhelming from a fantasy perspective but on the field I think they will be surprisingly opportunistic and they will bend but not break.

I think the offense is going to be balls to the wall and score a lot. I think Williams emerges as a stud on the field and for fantasy purposes. I think Murray stays healthy and has a great season. Witten will start to fade but Escobar will start to make some real strides. The offensive line is top five in the NFL. They will hold up and give Romo the time he needs.

I am saying this team overproduces and finishes 9-7 and a game out of the playoffs but with some good prospects for next season.

I am a Tony Romo fan and I have defended him a lot of times when people criticized. Today was the worst I have ever seen him play. He's thrown more INT's in a game, had more fumbles but he was just way off. He made awful decisions on throwing the ball weakly into double and triple coverage after missing the guy who was open in other areas of the field. He was not as mobile, accurate, or cunning as he used to be. I don't' know if it's his back or lack of playing this preseason but he looked awful. It is very unlikely he lasts the season.

The Cowboy running game impressed me. I was surprised at how well we ran the ball. The defense wasn't God awful either. Considering what situations Romo put them in they actually held up pretty well.

Romo looked done. You have to give him another shot because he deserves it plus there just isn't anyone to take his position. This looks like it's going to be a long year.

Well...it's officially another embarrassing, putrid Sunday. And to think, while some were begging to "blow it up," others got very angry with such a suggestion and wanted everything exactly the way it was. Well, the latter group got it's wish, and it looks like yet another year of crap. But, on he bright side, we're only one game out of first place.

Romo gave that game away, pure and simple. No one else to blam but him. Demarco Murray putting the ball on the carpet on the first drive set it up for Romo to turn into Romo.

I dont understand how a third different offensive coordinator can't real in Romo. I can see him changing the play at the line of scrimmage. Demarco Murray was dominating and they didnt take advantage of it. Romo takes over and throws picks. If I were Murray I would have been in Romo's face Terrell Owens style.

Also Dez showed he still isnt the leader we need him to be. I wanted to believe so bad but the guy just disappears in games like that and he even pulled himself out of the game. Ridiculous.

This is what gets me. I would take the audible away from Romo if he can't control himself and continually audibles into a pass play. When you are able to run the ball over 5 yards per down, you use it to control the game. I don't care if you're down 14 points, continue to run when it is that effective. Take advantage of that Oline!

Worst Romo game I have seen

I understand Dez is our best weapon, but you simply cannot force him the ball all the time.In the first half when it was 2nd and 1 from the 2 and they took a timeout and then tried a pass i was so pissed. You have 2 downs to run the ball 1 yard, then another 3 to run it 1 more. RUN THE DAMN BALL, quit getting so damn fancy

I'm not ready to give up on Romo, the facts are he wins games for us more often than he losses them for us. But this is one he threw away

The number of niners fans in the stands was embarrassing, even if Jerry doesn't want to acknowledge it. Luckily he'll comment on the football later in the week, i cannot wait for his meddling to make things worse.

i do not think he audibles out of runs all that often, i think they are not called

thew constant running of the play clock down to the last second is so awful, it has been like that for years and it is ridiculous

Any word on whether Dez was really dehydrated? That seems so weird with the game being indoors in a temperature controlled environment.

Could the big hit in the first half be responsible for him leaving the game?

Linehan likes to call passing plays.

I think Romo has been unfairly maligned in the past at times, but some were saying yesterday the defense is so bad he feels he has to do everything and was forcing the ball (Irvin?). I think Faulk noted that if the defense is challenged personnel-wise, that is exactly why you shouldn't force it, and give the opponent a short field.

If he hadn't had three INTs, it could have been a more competitive game. Sometimes it is better to just take a smaller gain or throw it away.

Makes me sick thinking about the mismanagement over the past 2 decades. Yet the last few years aside from this off season have been even worse.

Dark days ahead friends.

I disagree with whoever is saying Romo isnt changing the plays. You can SEE HIM DOING IT. I rewatched the game. Horrible. I dont even think his throws were off, he was trying to throw into double and triple coverage.

On the endzone TD, not only was there a GAPING hole for Murray to run through, there was a WIDE OPEN Dwayne Harris. Instead, he throws at Witten in TRIPLE coverage.

The guy needs some Bill Parcells love. I want Jason Garrett to be the answer so bad but DAMN! Come one! Get your QB under control. I used to love the gunslinger Romo but now I just want the guy to manage the damn game. Run the ball. Take advantage of the ridiculous offensive line. Put the defense is a position to at least give it a go. No defense can succeed the way the offense is running. I thought they played well. I knew they wouldnt pitch a shut out but they played well enough to win the game.

Romo isnt a leader. Dez is a hot head and not a leader. Witten isnt a leader. Sean Lee cant stay on the field for longer than 5 minutes.

This team has no real leaders. Ware was not outspoken enough to be a great leader. This team has no one to keep them in check. This team has no leadership and no accountability.

The owner is even dumb enough to think Johnny Manziel could be the answer!!!! Really?????

I have been saying for years that I HATE Zyhe buddy buddy friendship Tony and Garrett have.

Room throws 3 picks and Garrett is clapping his hands and saying c'mon when he should be staring him down and pointing Romo to the bench.

Way too cosy.

same as it ever was

i think if for the past 5 years the team wasd calling a balanced game and he was audibling out he'd be gone by now

he does change plays, i do not think the team is calling a balanced game and romo decides to pass. I find that impossible to believe

You can tell the game Romo will have just by looking at him. When he is jovial and not taking things that seriously, he is making plays all day. It's when it counts, when he is on the spot, that's when you see it. His eyes are full of self doubt when it gets serious. He looks up at himself on the Jumbotron, tries to muster up the courage to strap his chinstrap, put his mouthpiece in, and save the day. Only he takes his mind out of the game. He starts reading the paper before it's printed. He hears the fans reactions to the play that hasn't happened yet. The play clock is winding down, and he hears himself going through the cadence. Then, in an instance, he comes back to football, realizing the pigskin is in his hands and has to go somewhere. He looks for reliable Witten, Looks for explosive Dez, or another desperation play down field. He runs in circles trying to buy himself time. "Think Tony, Think", he tells himself, "what would Brett do?".

Until we have a better QB, with more intangibles than physical talent, we can't put so much emphasis on the position. Run the ball on first down, get some rhythm with quick pass plays to Beasly, Murray, and Witten on second OR third. Play straight forward football and keep the defense honest. Then, Send your guys downfield in obvious passing situations. Witten and Murray can both block. With Harris & Bryant running deep, Williams or Beasly running a hook or crossing route to the first down marker, keep Romo in the Pocket with all of his receivers in front of him. Nothing fancy. We shouldn't have to get creative because there is enough talent at EVERY position (maybe not Right Tackle) to play straight forward smash mouth football.

Rewatch the game. When you are watching pay attention to the formation and pay attention to what Romo does every time he sees an 8 man front. He changes the play and moves people around. He audibles from the run to a pass. He does it ALL THE TIME. He is doing it at the line with no communication from the sideline. It is really easy to see. It was pointed out to me last year by Adam Schein on NFL radio. I started paying attention after that. He brought it up again this morning on his radio show. I rewatched the game and paid close attention to it. You can see him changing the play.

The problem is, sometimes it works. Sometimes he makes that "Romo" play and all is good.

Garrett is not a good head coach. No one fears him. He holds no one accountable. Romo and Dez are never held accountable for anything and they have this "aww shucks, we will get em' next time" attitude.

No real head coach is going to come to Dallas. Even if they do, we will have to start all over building another defense and another new offense with another person who thinks they will b the one who can change Romo and build "with" the Jones family. Wrong.

Its been 20+ years since this team has been a true force in the league. The only real success was when Jerry swallowed his pride and hired Parcells. He couldnt handle it and he ran Parcells off. He wasnt patient with Rob Ryan. He loves Garrett because Garrett is his project, his pick, his protege. HIS PUPPET. Nothing will change with this circus in town.

We need to stop trading up in draft (Claiborne/Lawrence), do you know we could have had Brockers/Wagner instead of that bust corner. We should have traded Romo 5 years ago when I originally called it. Glad to see some progress on the Oline, now do the same to the front 7.

I have been defending Romo for years now. Im done doing it.Year after year, coach after coach, Coordinator after coordinator. Receiver after receiver. One common denominator is ROMO!.

Garrett isnt going to get the real chance he deserves with Romo as the QB. I love the guy but damn, enough is enough. Geez.

well there is one other common denominator

they guy who signed romo to a giant deal

Despite the Murray fumble, the biggest reason for the patches of panic that are developing around the area surely are linked to the performance of the man who is the highest compensated in a Cowboys' uniform, Tony Romo. Romo, for those who are predicting a fine year, is the single biggest reason for hope. The idea is that any team with Romo at the helm will have a chance to win most weeks, which demonstrates the value of having a franchise QB.

But, 2014 has felt different for a number of reasons when it comes to the man under center. His future is very much in question to the cynical eye, based on health, age, practice attendance, and a 2013 which was statistically flattering, but contained many moments that gave pause to those who wonder if he will be able to perform to the levels of his new contract that pays him from 2014-2019. In other words, that $108 million dollar deal is now 1 game old and 95 to go (optimistically).

the worst, and i mean WORST part of this is if Romo keeps sucking Jerry will see it as vindication of his belief that he should have drafted Johnny F.

I want to be clear I am not saying Romo is to blame for our lot. He is an above average QB with some limitations. His tenure here has run the course but he is not going anywhere and he does not deserve all the blame, but geez he sucked yesterday. My problem with the team is the decisions on personnel side and terrible drafting practices.

This team has had no identity for 20+ years. Why

We are minimum 4-5 away from any hope of anything positive and that assume we smarten up right now.

Jerry confirmed in his post game interviews that Romo was switching to pass plays.
As a Murray owner, it was sure frustrating to see him running down field at will and then see those pass plays close to the goal. After getting sacked the one series and then intercepted the other, I hope the coaches (finally) tell Romo to stop doing that...

that's fine

i am just saying this has been a problem for years, if it really is a Romo problem that is even more mindboggling. If he has had a series of OCs and ahead coach that call running plays and he refuses to run the ball season after season...that's insane

If i am not mistaken even the formation they came out in after the timeout changed from a big one to a spread one. The last time there was this hubabaloo about romo opting into a pass the play that was called was one designed for him to opt into pass

if they are calling runs and he is choosing to pass consistently i am flabbergasted

How many times did his ignorant ### ROLL INTO A RUSHING DE OR OLB?!? How do you NOT see/feel that and you roll right in to the guy? Seems like a total space case.

Take that into consideration with the highly questionable throws into triple coverage and bad audibles. AND he has one of the best O-lines in the game! Time to move on from this clown.

I found it funny how they could still run all over the 49'ers even though they were down 20+ points. Shoulda just did that all game and not let Romo throw at all. That line and Murray looked good (with the exception of Murray's fumble).

Garrett may ride into the sunset with Romo at the end of the year.

I think I speak for many homers in saying we can't wait to move on with a personnel and culture change.

Not holding my breath though.

You guys know I love Dez, but even wondering on how smart it is to give him huge bucks on a multi year deal.

If I could get picks for him, I would him.

Talk about a kick in the ####. Horrible game. Im not ready to throw Romo away just yet though. Last year he was a top 12 QB and his lack of preparation in preseason most certainly played a role in his bad reads and throws. Tom Brady played a horrific game yesterday as well so it happens to everyone. I knew going in this season was going to be ugly mainly due to Sean Lee injury and lack of upgrades to a defense that finished dead last in NFL last year. I predicted 7-9 and second in NFC East.

Lets not forget that Dallas won last year because of Romo and its grossly apparent that they cant win in spite of him unlike Russel Wilson or Colin Kapernick etc.

Dez is arguably the second best WR in all of the NFL behind Calvin Johnson. He hasn't had any off-field issues in a long time and his only problem is that he yells a bit on the sidelines and gets banged up. Im pretty sure I can live with that. Pay that man his money.

Im not ready to say Romo is done just yet......But yea, he was awful.

I think he'll turn it around........but it doesn't really matter, because the defense will not hold up to an NFL season.

The giants, skins, and cowboys look pretty bad. I'd be very surprised if the iggles don't win the east going away.

A strong head coach would help, too.

Witten is one guy I'd never count out until he's done. He'll have down games, but I think he'll have some good ones too.

Seems like Witten has gotten off to a slow start in a few seasons, but always seems to come around. Maybe TE is one position that so many play callers use differently, and it takes time to adapt (what is the most consecutive seasons under one play caller for Witten?). The good thing is that Witten has always been the prototypical TE.

Huge game for the Cowboys this week:

They have 5 of the next 6 games at home. If they beat the Saints at home, I think they have a gimme at home against the Texans (Foster will probably go this week and hurt himself again, so I think he will be out for the Cowboys). They would then go to Seattle 4-1 with no pressure on them. They will probably lose but you never know. So they come home 4-2 with the Giants, Redskins, and Cardinals all at home. They win 2 out of 3 and then beat Jax on the road before the bye. 7-3 entering the stretch.

If they lose this week, though, that 7-3 becomes at least 6-4, if not worse because they lose momentum.

It will be interesting to see how many opposing fans are in the seats the next two weeks with the Saints and Texans coming to town.

Any optimism from Cowboy fans after yesterdays comeback?

slight

i am just conditioned to think they will not stick with the run. If they can, and if murray holds up, and he stops fumbling, they can be competitive

still that was not a great Rams team, so it is very little optimism

they pull one off next week i'll be impressed
