Official Dallas Cowboys In Season Thread (1 Viewer)

I certainly prefer having a bye week. On any Sunday doesn't apply for a week. That's a huge advantage.
Bingo. 100% chance to advance counts for a lot.
Yeah it did wonders for us the last time that we went. I think this team has matured but I hate to see them sit for a week reading all of the headlines about how we have lost all of our playoff games the last 10 years and how we lost the last time we had a first round bye. Oh and the always popular "Do you think you will lose your job Wade if you don't win next week?"And let's not forget that in the last two seasons the NFC Champion didn't get a bye.I want our team to go play in that first week so that we can get a quick win and get this playoff monkey off of our back so that we can build on that the next week.

I'd rather get the 2 seed and have a much greater chance of not having to play any road games not to mention requiring one less win against a good team to get to the Superbowl.

This. Plus, this team seems to be much more focused to not let a week off distract them like it might have in 2007.

Anyone suggesting otherwise is about retarted. There's nothing guaranteed, but having that home game after the bye is about the surest thing in sports right now. Wade is not the best coach for that situation, but I have to think he couldn't find a way to screw that up again. At least this particular Philly game isn't for the actual spot in the playoffs. Is there any situation where this team goes to Minnesota or Arizona the first week rather than Philly with a loss?

Yep, we go to Minny if we lose and Minnesota wins.We go to Arizona if we lose and Minnesota loses and Arizona wins.

Also, the only scenario with us playing Philly in the 1st round would be at home. That is if we win and Minnesota wins.ETA: Well, I guess there is one scenario where Dal would play in Philly 1st round. Dal and Phil tie and a Minnesota win.

Thanks for the insight. Having read many of your posts in the past I recognize you as an expert on ######ation so I will go have myself checked.I still prefer this team to keep on playing. Dallas has no problems playing on the road. Their two biggest wins this season came at New Orleans and Philly so they play well. Given the weather I would prefer they play Philly at our house though.

Just a note.

Only 1 NFC 2nd seed team in the last 8 years has advanced to the Superbowl. The 2002 Bucs.

Coincidentally the 3rd, 4th and 5th seed have each had 1 team advance to the Superbowl. Only one winner though. The 2007 Giants.

A 6th seed has not made it yet this decade.

Columbo and Watkins did not practice today. Everybody else did.

Roy Williams said today that Garrett and Romo have lost confidence in him.

A very large crowd is expected for Sunday. Hopefully it will play in our favor.

Jenkins will not be isolated on (DeSean) Jackson this week because they move him around so much (Jackson).

Coach DeCamillis was on the field today but didn't do much. He's hurting. He had the appendectomy as well as a hernia surgery.

I've had both myself, and the hernia surgery hurts far worse. It's not even close. They kept Joe D. limited.

While the bye would be nice, considering the way they're playing right now, I'm a bit worried that the bye would disrupt their rhythm. That said, it would suck to have to play the Eagles two weeks in a row.

We'll learn a lot about this team in the Divisional Championship game this weekend.

Umm this seems to not be good news that he would say something like this. What context was this made? We can not have him half stepping out there because he feels that Romo has lost confidence in him. Is this going to become a problem? Not that Roy has been lighting it up but if Philly sees this comment they may just all together just forget about Roy if they see him sulking out there thus killing Austin's big play ability.

Can you say Ogletree Garrett. Get him in the game. The guy just has a burst and big play all over him. Did you see him get that short Kick Off. He just took off. Man when will they get this guy on the field. It is just killing me!!!!!!!!!!!

Roy Williams said that his drops have made Romo and Garrett lose confidence in him and he needs to work hard to restore that confidence. He wasnt sulking rather he was saying he needs to do better.

There's more on it here:http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives...to-get-his.html

Roy Williams still has confidence in his ability.

He understands if quarterback Tony Romo and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett don't share that confidence at the moment. Wednesday, one week after declaring it was hard to produce with so few opportunities, Williams acknowledged he must make plays in order to get more balls thrown his way.

"If I continue to do the things I've been doing, I'm going to mess around and be on the sidelines playing special teams,'' said Williams, who dropped two of the three balls thrown to him Sunday, one resulting in an interception.

"I didn't get a look in the second half, so that's telling me my quarterback has lost that confidence in me and so has the coordinator in calling the play for me. That's not on them. I don't blame them. I've brought it on myself. I've got to get my stuff together and help this team win some games in the playoffs.''

Williams has caught two passes for 18 yards in the last three games and admits he's pressing.

"I feel like I have to do something out of the ordinary here instead of just playing my game and letting the ball come to me,'' Williams said. "This season has been weird for me. I've always said I'll take less stats for more wins, and that's what's happening. I think I'm getting tested by the man upstairs seeing if I'm really what I say I am.

"I want to make plays. I want to be the best player on the field when I'm out there. It's just not working right now.''

Its obvious that Dallas has struggled on short yardage situations during 3rd and 4th down why not spread the defense out by placing Crayton and Witten as slot WRs with Ogletree and Miles as the wideouts. You then give Romo the option to handoff to the RB or throw a short pass depeding upon the defense. I gaurantee you that the defense would not place 10 or 11 inside the box if faced with this formation. I specifically omitted Marty B and Roy W as they have had trouble catching the ball, in a crucial short yardage situation I would rather have Ogletree and Crayton.

Cowboys playoff scenarios

Here’s the Cowboys’ playoff scenarios heading into Sunday’s game against Philadelphia:

No. 2 seed: Cowboys win, Minnesota Vikings lose, Arizona Cardinals lose or tie.

No. 3 seed: Cowboys win, Vikings win, Cardinals lose or tie

No. 4 seed: Cowboys win, Vikings win, Cardinals win

No. 5 seed: No chance

No. 6 seed: Cowboys lose to Eagles.

Possible opponents

No. 2 seed and bye: If Cowboys win, Vikings lose, Cardinals lose.

Host Eagles: If Cowboys win, Vikings win and Cardinals lose; or if Cowboys win, Vikings win and Cardinals win

Host Packers: If Cowboys win, Vikings lose and Cardinals win

Play at Vikings: If Cowboys lose, Vikings lose and Cardinals lose; or if Cowboys lose, Vikings win and Cardinals win; or if Cowboys lose, Vikings win and Cardinals lose.

Play at Cardinals: If Cowboys lose, Vikings lose and Cardinals win.

I cannot freaken stand this guy. He's worse in Dallas than he was in Detroit, regarding his attitude. I mean, you'd think a guy who played for a team like Detroit his entire professional career would just try and make this most of this opportunity, kind of like Brookings. I swear, he's way worse than Terell Owens. At least Terell had a leg to stand on when he acted just about the same way. I mean, he's twice as good as Roy Williams so at least then you figured you'd stomach it because he was a superstar. This guy is a wannabe superstar. The Cowboys are rolling, they're about to play the biggest game of their season so far and he says things like a little girl would say.

I actually think out of the scenarios, the Cowboys will be facing the Packers. I think we beat Philly, Minnesota loses to the Giants but Arizona wins.Out of all the possible matchups, Green Bay is the team I don't want to play that first week. They are the only team that outplayed the Cowboys all season.

I really think your misunderstanding what Roy is saying here. He is frustrated with the drops and is being honest with himself and the media in saying that Romo and Garrett have lost confidence in him. Id much rather him say this as opposed to having some false sense of security thinking the drops are okay.

The best news IMO is that under no scenario do the Cowboys have to travel to Philly in the first round. Green Bay or Philly would be tough outs, rather face Vikings, Cards, Saints, Green Bay, Philly in that order.

Why do people just read the blurb and not the whole interview? Haven't we learned by now that the media is going to paint things in a negative and senstionalistic light. I mean come on.I got this from right above your post IWBACB.

Let me answer that for you then Tyrion. Because the original poster only posted what I commented on. As I was reading thru the thread, that's what I came upon. I finished reading his entire post and I wanted to comment on it. I had no idea there was more to the story until reading down several posts. Complain to the original poster for deleting material from the thread and posting something that's misleading. Go up and read the post I originally quoted and see if that helps clear things up for you.

Apologies for the misleading.I heard it presented to Wade yesterday during his press conference. (Wade said he doesn't buy it by the way)

I found the story this morning and posted the link and story after Mustang Man questioned me as to the context.

When I post notes from pressers, I simply hit the bullet points so as to keep it short and simple.

I'll try to expound more in the future if I deem it necessary.

Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like the Cowboys wouldn't have to play the Eagles two weeks in a row after all.
No problem, but we may still play the Eagles back-to-back in hosting them (again) if:Cowboys win, Vikings win and Cardinals lose;

or if Cowboys win, Vikings win and Cardinals win

An interesting note here.

The Cowboys have the eighth ranked rushing attack, averaging 128.3 yards a game on the ground and need 53 yards Sunday against Philadelphia to have the most net yards in a season in franchise history.

In other news, practice has been moved to Cowboys Stadium today, and Jerry Jones said the Cowboys will work out there for the rest of the week, too.

I like the idea of them practicing more at the stadium. The more the better.

Maybe they want to get Shaun Suisham some work inside there before Sunday. The Cotton Bowl "field" should be down for Saturday's game, which will make for an interesting and quick turnaround for the grounds crew with the Cowboys playing Sunday.

I for one really do not care who they draw in the first round. Dallas can beat anyone and can be beat by anyone in the playoffs. It is a plus that we have no shot at going to Philly week 18 cause that would be a real tough win to play them in Philly after just blowing a week 17 game to them in Dallas. I think there is a good possibility that Dallas gets a first round bye if they beat Philly. I really see the Pack beating Zona and Minny can easily lose to the G-Men I mean they could not even beat the Bears in a game they knew if they won they had home field in their grasps. THINK BIG!! THINK POSITIVE and sht happens!!

Bringem on boys, Dallas is ready! :lmao:

Columbo and Watkins did not practice today. Everybody else did.

Roy Williams said today that Garrett and Romo have lost confidence in him.

A very large crowd is expected for Sunday. Hopefully it will play in our favor.

Jenkins will not be isolated on (DeSean) Jackson this week because they move him around so much (Jackson).

Coach DeCamillis was on the field today but didn't do much. He's hurting. He had the appendectomy as well as a hernia surgery.

I've had both myself, and the hernia surgery hurts far worse. It's not even close. They kept Joe D. limited.
Roy Williams said that his drops have made Romo and Garrett lose confidence in him and he needs to work hard to restore that confidence. He wasnt sulking rather he was saying he needs to do better.
Thanks for verifying that makes me feel a lot better. I see others were worried about this comment as well :lmao: . Andy thanks for the playoff scenario's I had not had time to go over that yet.

A Cheesy Farewell to Texas Stadium

Kraft Foods will be the title sponsor for the implosion of Texas Stadium this year under a deal approved unanimously by the Irving City Council on Thursday.

The food giant plans to launch a campaign linking the destruction of the former home of the Dallas Cowboys to its Cheddar Explosion line of macaroni and cheese products, according to city documents.

Kraft will pay the city $75,000 in cash for the privilege as well as make a $75,000 contribution to local charities, city officials said. The city plans to donate the cash payment to local charities as well.

Maura Gast, executive director of the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the council that Kraft plans to spend $1 million in marketing and advertising for the event, focused on a nationwide contest to select a child to push the button that starts the implosion.

The implosion is expected to occur between March 14 and April 18, according to the contract with Kraft. Gast said a specific date should be announced later this month.

The council had to hold a special New Year’s Eve meeting to approve the sponsorship because Kraft plans to roll out the contest next week, Gast said

City officials confirmed before voting that the city will be allowed to include others to be part of a button-pushing team, including perhaps a former member of the Dallas Cowboys. [Andy insertion: I know that Roger Staubach has been approached. I think he's willing]

Gast assured the council that Kraft’s promotion of the event will "tell the story Irving wants to tell, which is really about the future of Irving and everything we are banking on happening in the redevelopment of this site."

No problem. You're welcome. In related news, the NFL will announce next week's playoff schedule on Sunday night.

Official injury report

COWBOYS

OUT: OT Marc Colombo (ankle), S Pat Watkins (knee)

PROBABLE: WR Miles Austin (thumb), CB Terence Newman (knee), S Gerald Sensabaugh (thumb), LB DeMarcus Ware (wrist).

EAGLES

PROBABLE: WR Reggie Brown (shoulder), C Nick Cole (knee), S Quintin Demps (ankle), G Max Jean-Gilles (ankle), WR Jeremy Maclin (foot), QB Michael Vick (quadriceps)

With backup C Cole replacing starter Jackson (IR-ACL) and G Gilles dinged up it would appear that the middle of the Eagles offensive line may prove vulnerable.

In other news:

*For about two weeks Shaun Suisham was out of football after his release from Washington and before he joined the Cowboys.

Now it can be told that Suisham's first day on the job didn't go so well, according to Wade Phillips. Suisham made his only attempt - a 23-yarder against Washington last week but was 2-of-4 at Cowboys Stadium earlier this year, missing from 39 and 50 yards when he came in with the Redskins.

"And he came up to me and said, 'I've just got to get my timing, coach, don't worry about it,'" Phillips said, who said, "I am little worried about it right now because I don't know you.' But after that he really has hit almost everything ... He seems like a real solid kid, kind of what you're looking as a kicker and he has hit the ball really well. I mean he's not hitting them good. He's hitting them all down the middle."

*Cowboys Stadium is a architectural marvel. But when it comes to the noise level, well...

"Texas Stadium was louder,'' receiver Patrick Crayton said. "Maybe because the tickets were cheaper so the fans could afford to get there, the ones who got crazy off the Miller Lites.''

That led to this plea from Crayton and several other Cowboys. They want owner Jerry Jones to keep the doors and roof closed for Sunday's game against Philadelphia. In the words of Crayton, the team needs to, "pump some noise in there.''

Even head coach Wade Phillips has gotten into the act. Twice this week, he's spoken about how loud the fans were in the Superdome in New Orleans and said that's what he hopes to hear Sunday at Cowboys Stadium.

"Let's see how it would be with everything closed,'' cornerback Orlando Scandrick said. "Hopefully, Mr. Jones and the front office will keep all of that closed and give us that added advantage.''

*If Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo goes the distance in Sunday's game against Philadelphia, he will achieve a first in club history.

Romo would become the Cowboys' first quarterback to take every snap in the regular season. Drew Bledsoe came close in 2005, playing all but two snaps. Romo had those plays to finish a win against Philadelphia.

Romo has not been involved in every offensive play. He has come out on some of the ``Razorback'' plays, which start with a direct snap to a running back.

*One week after undergoing an appendectomy, special-teams coach Joe DeCamillis will be at his usual spot on the Dallas Cowboys sidelines for Sunday's game against Philadelphia.

DeCamillis has done all his usual prep work in practice this week, but the Cowboys have tried to get him off the field as soon as possible. According to coach Wade Phillips, DeCamillis reported extreme soreness on Wednesday but continued.

DeCamillis received medical clearance to stay on the sidelines, if he can handle the discomfort. Given DeCamillis' emotional approach, he would not be comfortable working out of the press box.

And last but not least-

*Evidently some comments made by Mike Jenkins earlier in the week were delivered to Philly wide receiver DeSean Jackson in an attempt to stir the pot.

Didn't work, but this is related from the Philadelphia Inquirer:

"The main thing is they try to catch you off-guard," Jenkins said the other day. "It's yet to happen to us, and we're not planning on it to happen. I guess he runs past a lot of guys, and it's not going to happen this week. It's not going to happen to us, period."

And Jackson's reaction: "If that's how he's feeling then that's how he's feeling," Jackson said. "I don't get caught up in things like that. I'm not going to entertain this. I got a job to go out there and make plays, which I'm going to do. I don't think nobody's going to stop me from doing that."

It's all kind of silly, really. On Thursday, Jenkins was asked about going against Jackson - even though he won't see him full-time Sunday.

"It's a big challenge," Jenkins said. "He's one of those talkers. We came out the same year, pretty much going through the Combine and stuff and we've got a good relationship. It's going to be a fun game. As far as talking on the field, he's a great receiver. He's a Pro Bowl receiver and we just have to stay on top of him."

Good stuff

Free or Colombo?

Marc Colombo will get his starting job back when he returns from leg and ankle injuries that have kept him out the past six games. But Doug Free has made the decision much harder than anticipated. Free has allowed only one sack, according to STATS, Inc., and been penalized for holding twice in his six starts.

"We were [giving him practice repetitions] earlier to give him some playing time, because we thought he was good enough to play," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "So it came a little quicker than we thought playing all the time."

Colombo has been working on the side with trainers at practice, but Phillips said Colombo might not be ready until at least the divisional round of the playoffs in two weeks.

I think you keep playing Free unless Colombo is absolutely 100 percent healthy and/or you see that Free's play starts to decline for any reason. I think the Cowboys offense is playing well right now, I wouldn't change it right now. To me, having Colombo back is a great insurance policy as the post season is upon us at the very least.

That's very good reasoning and I agree.By the way, that wasn't my question [Free or Columbo?], that was simply the title of the blurb. Just an FYI.

For the guys not watching locally, and don't have DirectTV, what online feed do you watch?

I had a bunch of links, but that computer died and I'm not fixing it. The soapcast one is cool and all, but often breaks after the second half.

I usually watch games on justin.tv.

Giants are getting worse at the worst possible time. It's not starting well for them to beat the Vikings for us.
Did you really think the G-Men would win to help out any team in the NFC EAST. Ehhh I really just think they blow but in the back of your mind does it not just look like they do not want to help out. They are who I thought they were. Check out my prediction for them in my sig.

With the Vikings beating the Giants senseless, it comes down to this:

Win: *We host Philly again next week.

Lose: We go to Minnesota (as the #6 seed).

It's that simple. The only question would be what seed we obtain with a win.

No. 3 seed: Cardinals lose or tie

No. 4 seed: Cardinals win

*I should mention that teams that have swept a season series and met the same opponent again in the playoffs are 12-7.

ETA: Sorry Ariakis, evidently I was putting my post together while you were posting yours.

I didn't see yours until after the fact.

With the bye no longer in play, I still prefer a win today, 8 quarters with Philly and the shot at another home game going forward. It's not ideal, but if Philly is the obstacle then keep them in Texas.

Hey we beat them in Dallas this week how much confidence do you need to do it again the next week in the playoffs. Would love nothing more then to beat them for the division and then beat them for a 3rd time in the playoffs. I would think that would more then make up for the 44-6 loss huh. :goodposting:

A couple of notes:

More than 100,000 in attendance with the roof and doors closed. Should be louder than it's ever been.

If you recall, the 105,000+ in attendance for the Giants game (home opener) we saw the roof and doors open.

Miles Austin himself was surprised to find himself on the injury report (thumb).

He simply jammed it in last week's game and has practiced all week with no troubles.
