Dolphins sign CB Brent Grimes to a one year, 5.5 million dollar contact. Very nice.
Injury plagued and coming off a torn achilles in 2011 and 2012, he went undrafted and played for Shippenburg University? Is this not the same board and people that were celebrating the Dolphins not locking up Jake Long due to injury? His resume included 4 Pro Bowl appearances in 5 seasons, drafted #1 overall, and played at Lineman U in Michigan. It's astonishing how you all pick and choose what to analyze with the Phins. Again I'm sorry to be negative and it's good to root for the team but you all are fooling yourself. Building a team thru FA is not how you get to the playoffs, look around the league and look who is successful. NFL GMs are laughing at us right now.

75+ free agents signed in the last decade, 4 total trips to the Pro Bowl. I think you all should pull out the video of the 1994 and 1995 Miami Dolphins. Shula was getting heat and the team wanted him to retire, he was almost forced into it because we were gonna get Jimmy Johnson. What happened? Shula signed a lot of free agents to try and please Huezinga and Miami ended up not doing very well with a lot of money and signings made.

Guys you gotta build thru the draft, short cuts don't work in the NFL often. I'm just trying to make you think and not drink the kool-aid from the front office.
Do we not have five picks in the first 82? 11 picks overall? Even AFTER all these moves we still have $20M in cap money. What should we do? Hand it out to fans before games?

I get youre down, but we must place our bets somewhere. This guy is loads better than Sean Smith whom we let go (and got paid much more money BTW), so we needed a replacement. If Grimes doesnt pan out, then we let him walk after the year and our future cap position is unscathed. If he regains his prior form, then we lock him up. Upside. Mininal risk. Fills a gaping need. Yes we'll STILL address the position in the draft but it gives us tremendous flexibility to bick BPA and not reach because we didnt have anyone at the position.

Also who cares that he went undrafted? Are you just pissing in here? Arian Foster also went undrafted. So did Cam Wake. Wes Welker. And so on.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:You got me Native, that's funny. It's a great idea, I'm gonna Twitter it out to the masses.

Before the Grimes signed, most of the draft pundits had Miami taking a CB with their first pick. So now is it virtually a lock for an O Lineman? I would get that, but.....with so many OL projected to be taken before our pick, I hate the idea of being at the end of the run instead of starting the run. Perhaps we start a run at WR or RB?? What say ye finfans?

Id still like us to go receiver in round one. For all the talent weve added this offseason, the team's fate will still be determined by Tannehill. I love how ATL surrounded Matt Ryan with explosive weapons (Julio Jones, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez) which in turn elevated Ryan's ceiling and put them on the brink of the Super Bowl. I would love if we added Cordarrelle Patterson or Tavon Austin to the current crop of WR's. Green Bay used to go 4-5 deep at receiver while Philbin was there - heck James Jones was their WR4 and had 13 TD's last year.

I personally agree with a WR pick, but our current RB corps is weaker than our current WR corps. The problem is that I don't think that there's any RB in the draft worth the 12th overall pick. So That's kind of the dilema.

I think the 2nd is going to work better for tackle and cornerback. Austin or a passrusher like Mingo at 12 would be exciting.

Quick question, could we pick a game on the schedule and get as many folks to 1 Miami Dolphins game? I would like to have a small FBG get together at one of the games. Tickets in the lower bowl are about $100-$150, upper level anywhere from $25-$75 tops.

I think we should plan a get together and if anyone could make it from outside of the state of Florida, all the better.

I really hate the idea of OL in the 1st, even with Keller under contract, would like to get the kid from ND to pair with Keller and then Charles Clay is still a guy I would like to see develop a little more. That would make us a lot stronger at TE. Solid TE1 and TE2, Wallace then Hartline, Bess, and Gibson...I would think Tannehill might have a fighting chance now. Excellent thread guys, Slap always has transaction news, yes I ##### a lot and am critical but native is keeping me in check by laughing.

I agree that you have to build through the draft and especially a few contributors from the later rounds. Nothing worse than a draft and two years later none are on your squad. If you have solid depth from the draft over the years, it's easier to cherry pick a free agent to plug a gaping hole or to get a massive upgrade.

12 seems to have become a tough spot for the Phins with the offseason moves. It would be best if they could trade up for Milner/Johnson or back for a TE or Trufant/Banks. I keep reading that Rhodes isn't really a scheme fit. I have seen some Kenny Vaccaro picks, but I happen to be happy with Jones/Clemmons. Plus, Salguero keeps pointing out that Ireland likes to draft "key positions" high and safety isn't one of them.

Best pash rusher available may be the play here, that would really make the defense a force. I still want a WR high though. Gibson, Hartline, and Bess are solid recievers but I'd like a guy with higher upside.

Hack, waste of space, mouthpiece for the Phins. He was the last to the party to acknowledge just how bad it got when they had bottomed out. You can read over him if you like but he is 100% terrible and one of the 1st guys I took aim at down here when I arrived in Miami.
You can call him a hack, even a waste of space. I don't agree but that's subjective. I will say you are dead wrong on the mouthpiece part. He rarely, if ever, writes anything positive about Miami

Seems like he has a few friends in the organization. That doesn't bother me because he seems to be the most up-to-date on what the Dolphins moves will be.

Saw this mock-up of the new Phins uniform on another site based on rumored details. I really like the look
Kinda disappointed at the fins new logo. If you look around the net there are a lot of pretty cool logos that random people have come up, many of which look better.

The first one is the best and makes the most sense combining the new with the tradition, IMO.

It looks like clip art, something a child might bring home and say dolphin while mom nods her head even though it looks like a blue shamu. Good job Bobby, we'll hang it on the fridge with the others.

It looks like clip art, something a child might bring home and say dolphin while mom nods her head even though it looks like a blue shamu. Good job Bobby, we'll hang it on the fridge with the others.
Kind of a USFL feel...

Unless we go with Flipper "flipping" the bird, I say leave the logo alone.

NFL GMs are laughing at us right now.75+ free agents signed in the last decade, 4 total trips to the Pro Bowl. I think you all should pull out the video of the 1994 and 1995 Miami Dolphins. Shula was getting heat and the team wanted him to retire, he was almost forced into it because we were gonna get Jimmy Johnson. What happened? Shula signed a lot of free agents to try and please Huezinga and Miami ended up not doing very well with a lot of money and signings made.Guys you gotta build thru the draft, short cuts don't work in the NFL often. I'm just trying to make you think and not drink the kool-aid from the front office.
He tore his Achilles in 2011 AND 2012?

The Kansas City Chiefs have given the Miami Dolphins permission to talk to left tackle Branden Albert to help facilitate a trade for a second-round draft choice, a source said.

Albert, who lives in Miami, is expected to visit the Dolphins' facility in the next couple of days for a physical. Albert has permission by the Chiefs to talk contract with the Dolphins, but no other team.

Not sure what to think of this yet?

Due just under 10 million in 2013 and wants a long term deal - why not just keep Long?

Is he a ZBS Olineman?

Is he better than Long?

Miami fans know I am going to weigh in on this...so you let Long go who has been to the Pro Bowl 4 times in 5 years and signed for $8.5 million a year in St Louis...now you want to trade...TRADE(we need the draft picks) for Albert who is due $9.6M this season with the franchise tag and if you cannot agree to a long term deal then you only get him for 1 year.

And dear god are they really gonna cough up a 2nd rounder for a guy the Chiefs will cut by next weekend anyways after they take a LT #1 overall???

Anything more than one of those 3rd rounders is highway robbery for the Chiefs. It is obvious they are not gonna keep Albert no matter what. I'm shocked a better team than Miami, a playoff team with an actual need doesn't jump into this, might say something about what Miami is doing.

5 picks in the top 80+ a golden opportunity for Miami to draft a bunch of playmakers which is what this team desperately needs on both offense and defense, use those picks to develop young playmakers. Most playoff teams that make noise do not rely on free agency to make their dreams come true. Miami did a decent job of using their dollars in the off season but they must continue to draft talent...or how about START drafting young talent.

We drafted Hartline, Pouncy, Tannehill, Martin, Miller, Thomas, Odrick, Misi, Solia, R.Jones, and then we also brought in Wake and Bess although technically not drafted they did not play for another NFL team. I'm not proud of all those picks but it is the nucleus we are building around.

And it does feel like all we have done is replace Dansby/Burnett/Long/Smith/Marshall with replacements. You can bet if Miami does manage to trade for Albert that the 1st round pick is gonna go DB/CB...I would love the kid from Texas to pair with Jones but that leaves us pretty vulnerable at the corners.

Again though we are drafting needs that should have been filled out the last time we burned 1st and 2nd round picks on the same positions.

You gotta remember, Miami was willing to pay Long about what STL offered.

I just can't see a 2nd and $10mm/per happening. Something has to give on one of those fronts.

They have simply been given permission to speak with Albert, which will afford them the opportunity to gauge how much they will have to pay him. if it is comparable money to Long, and they still trade for him, then I can see the justification to be upset about it. Until then, they are just doing due diligence, which is what they should be doing. If they can get Albert to agree to an affordable long term deal, then they can go back to KC and negotiate the terms of a trade. My hope is that they get Albert to agree to roughly a $6.5-$7M annual deal, and then trade a 3rd round pick for him. Not too many teams that have the cap space at this point to jump into the fray. Cross reference those teams that do have the space with those who need a LT, and are willing to trade a pick and the universe gets even smaller. If KC indeed intends to take Joekel and Albert is unhappy about playing RT, then KC will be in a position of weakness. Hopefully we have the brain trust in place to take advantage of that.

Back the Truck Up!!!

Tyler Eifert- I believe Miami is going to draft this guy and here is why. Yes we need help in the secondary and also the Tackle spot however there are tackles walking around that Miami could bring in. This is essentially year 2 of a rebuild with the new coach so I would prefer they bring in as many playmakers as possible and let's see how Tannehill does. I would rather go 6-10/5-11 for 1 year and score 30+ points a game, it would be a lot more fun until we finish this rebuild. I know Miami brought in Keller but it is a 1 year deal and if he pans out then great but I see him more as a stop gap until they can get a true game changer and I feel like Eifert is that guy.

Miami picks 12th and they are going to miss out on the top LTs, DEs, why settle for the 3rd or 4th best at a position when you can get a guy that is perhaps the best TE prospect on the board since KWII. I really want Miami to keep going and not settle in on Wallace. Mike Wallace will be at his best if the defense cannot solely focus on him every play. I feel like Hartline/Bess/Gibson will be a nice trio of 2s and 3s, maybe Hartline will do even better going up against 2nd and 3rd DBs.

The point is when the offense is that explosive you don't have to have the absolute best on the OL. I have not seen teams turn themselves around by drafting a LT. Miami is one of those teams who tried, I wish they would learn their lesson.

And finally...I got to talk to Omar Kelly(who I am not a huge fan of but have run into numerous times) who has a tight relationship with the team and also feels used on the Branden Albert front...I asked and he said he was used to fuel a lot of speculation by Miami's front office. I asked why he did it and he said it affords him access when he does the team favors. Try and remember this the next time you are reading all that wonderful inside info...might want to question the source. Slap called this out a couple posts up and said he did not believe this will happen.

So I asked him about the draft, threw out Eifert's name, he almost instantly said "That's the guy". I threw out a couple more just to get a read on him and he said Miami wants him big time and doesn't want to have to move up to get him, might even be a slight stretch to some at #12. I hope Miami goes in this direction because none of the RB/WRs I can see grade out as high as Eifert would at his position. Eifert plus Keller would give Miami some explosiveness they have not had at TE since perhaps Keith Jackson.

I'd be happy with that pick, I agree I would rather score 30 a game and then build the defense next year. Always seems to be easier to get the pieces for defense then on the O.

I believe Miami is going to be ferocious in the front 7. They were pretty stout against the run last year but I feel like Olivier Vernon will develop nicely this year as a pass rush specialist who can line up at OLB if need be and they can then rotate even more. They signed two very fast LBs to increase speed and I believe these guys will make some plays and Cameron Wake will disrupt the QB with help from the other side in Vernon. I don't think Miami is as desperate for an impact DE opposite Wake.

If Miami is as good as I think they can be in the front 7, Rashad Jones to me is on the cusp of being special. 90+ tackles last year, 4 Interceptions, maybe not Pro Bowl but not much below that level. I would like to see Miami get a Safety to pair with him. They signed Grimes, we'll see what he has left, that leaves a couple spots in the secondary...a lot of teams are in much worse shape so I also agree with you we need to keep expanding the offense, that's the NFL in 2013. A lot of these teams who are winning Super Bowls are not lights out defensively. Baltimore statistically was not that great of a defense last year, not taking anything away form their win, one of the most dominant defenses ever over the last deacde+ but not in 2012.

Let's keep bringing play makers on to this team, we can't get enough of them right now.

I hope MoP is right with Eifert unless a top prospect drops. If one of the top OTs or Milliner is there, I hope we pause and consider the marriage of value and need. Of the people likely to drop to us, Eifert is who I'd most prefer to see called.

I'm pretty sure that Eifert is the pick as well.

Makes a ton of sense. In the short term it gives you the flexibility on offense to use the "New England" 2 tight end attack and make the game even easier for Tannehill. You couple 2 high quality pass catching tight ends with a burner like Wallace on the outside and we FINALLY have the chance to be an explosive offense. I'm a big fan of Miller's skill set and have been watching him since he was a junior at Killian high school down here in Miami. I think he's a pro bowl calibre talent assuming that shoulder he has struggled with over the years doesn't become an issue again.

I want to temper all that by saying I don't trust Ireland. In my 30 years of being a Fins fan I've weathered all the ups and downs but my heart simply can't take much more. His misses in the 2nd/3rd rounds over the last 3-4 years have left us with more holes than we should have at this point. I know some of the holes were filled via free agency but history says filling holes via free agency isn't the way to do things...but that's another topic for another thread.

As for the Albert thing....Ireland would be an idiot to give up BOTH a second round pick plus a contract north of 9 million per year. Exactly 2.5 seconds after the Chiefs select one of the 2 top rated tackles with their first pick their leverage in regards to Albert will take a significant hit. Everyone knows they won't want to carry a 9 million dollar tackle when they just drafted the top guy overall. Offer a 3rd round pick...if they balk wait it out til after the draft. If they find another partner (Arizona) or refuse to budge...sign Winston.

I just want to go on record as saying that if Eifert isn't the pick and Austin is still on the board I'd be all for that move as well. You add another explosive weapon and then can release Devone Bess and save another 3 million against the cap this year...possibly leaving room to sign another veteran CB/safety?

MOP - I'm with you at this point on Albert. His salary demands are way too high to justify trading a pick for him when as you stated earlier, we could have kept Jake Long and our pick. Albert is the same age as Long, and also injury prone. It would be an all-too typical blunder if we ended up letting that happen.

Greg Cosell just did a mock that had us taking DJ Hayden (CB - Houston) even though Milliner was still on the board. There are not too many guys whose opinions on talent I value more than his. He and Waldman are the gold standard as far as I am concerned (with a shout out to Wessling). He had Eifert and Austin going 6/7 to Cleveland and Arizona respectively.

He did note that he has no expectations that these picks match up with teams' draft boards - they simply reflect his opinion on who he would take at each spot.

If not Eifert or Austin, we should likely have a shot at either Milliner or Hayden. In Cosell says Hayden is an elite player, I give that serious credibility.

I have been doing the Dolphins Shark Pool Mock #2. Here is what I came up with:

1.12 Desmond Trufant CB

2.42 Melenik Watson LT

2.54 Eric Reid S

3.77 Brandon Williams DT

3.82 Stedman Bailey WR

I still think Miami goes CB in the first round and like Trufant a lot. Reid would be a steal at that point, and I have seen him falling there in a couple of mocks. I didn't put a priority on a pash rusher, I agree with MOP about the Vernon. Still some depth at DT would be nice. Bailey should be a good redzone threat for Tannehill.

Please criticize away.

Milliner is hurt right now and would be out until perhaps camps I have been reading...

Brian Baldinger was on 790 IIRC down here today and he basically said why would Miami trade a 2nd for a guy who is demanding about $10m a year when they could have just signed Jake Long and he's right. I would amazingly disappointed if Miami decides to trade these picks. Ireland stinks in the 2nd and 3rd round of these drafts, missed on almost everyone so some fans say why not trade them for sure fire players. Because this team is not going to ultimately get to where we want them to go with Jeff Ireland running the show, that's my opinion.

I have a final post before the draft but I want to throw this out there. I want Miami to do the right thing and make solid draft selections, I also am a realist that this draft is not loaded with the same talent we have had in other years. 1st round-3rd round can't tell the difference in a lot of these players and it is not because it is supper deep with rich talent. So I would like to see Ireland perhaps trade some of these picks for picks in next year's draft. I like Eifert plenty but if we can trade down a few spots and pick up additional picks or picks for next year I am on board.

Miami can still try to sign Winston and roll Martin to LT although i think that is a recipe for disaster at LT.

The White uniforms don't look bad. The thing is the logo itself, we've seen it for a while now, it's not really growing on me but I bet the kids will like it for some reason. I hate the current Miami logo(before the new one), it looks like total #### too compared to the logo from '74-'89. We have had no success under the current Miami logo so I am all for getting rid of it and the darker turquoise or whatever puke they turned the Miami uniform into. I like the idea of a more teal n orange look.

I can see them going DB in the 1st...however I really think they are going to rely on a heavy front 7 that will help make other teams one dimensional on offense. 1.12 Tyler Eifert TE-Notre Dame...I just have to say though it would so Ireland to go Cooper G/C here. He's better than Pouncey who Miami took 15th overall. 2.42 Justin Hunter WR-Tennessee...they need a big guy who can catch the ball in the red zone. Both the 1st and 2nd round picks should solve this problem. 2.54 David Amerson CB-NC State...tall and was clocked at a 4.4 at the combine. I like this kid a lot and no reason to burn a 1st on the position. IF they did though I would want Xavier Rhodes from FSU. 3.77 Darius Slay CB-Miss State...6 foot 195 lbs, and he runs a 4.3. I want playmakers, Amerson and Slay is what this draft is all about. 2nd and 3rds are almost as good and many times equal to what is in the 1st round. I would love to see Miami take a 2nd and 3rd, go get 2 quality DBs to line up opposite Grimes and the Nickel spot. This plus what we have would make us really strong on defense IMO. 3.82 Marcus Lattimore RB-South Carolina...all signs are pointing towards a speedy and strong recovery. This is the hail mary pass you make when you have a solid nucleus in place and can roll the dice. Lattimore might not make it this far but the injury is keeping teams from wanting to invest too highly in this kid. I don't care what this means to FF owners with Miller, in fact I love Miller but he can't do it alone. I have several ways the Miami Dolphins can go and that is a good thing. I will not cry if Ireland trades down and picks up selections for 2014, that would be ideal as well. I think they sign Eric Winston and roll Martin to LT, not a big fan of this but I think that is what they do.

Forget Tavon Austin, grab the kid Ace Sanders in the 5th or 6th round, maybe even super late with a 7th. he is built similar and just had a really bad 40 time but in game action he was really fast.

Miami passed on TY Hilton a couple times last year and he would have been a major upgrade over D.Bess and I just don't see any way they take the kid form WVU in the 1st. he has been talked about a lot down here on talk radio but this would be Ted Ginn Jr all over again here, fans would lose their minds.

As a Gamecocks season tix holder, I'd love to have Lattimore and Sanders come to Miami. I am really skeptical of Ace though, he didn't show enough in the passing game. Should have stayed another year. Great returner though, really makes people miss.

Between Thigpen and Ace we would have a lethal return game. If the NFL will even allow kickoffs and punts down the road.

This fan up north would lose it as well, never understood the Ginn pick and as you said I think this kid is in the same mold. Not to say he can't be a good player but the floor is way too low to use a first rounder on a guy like this unless you are a team with everything in place and just looking to add some explosiveness. I'm on the Eifert or trade down band wagon (unless someone like Milliner falls)
