But then Hilary gets the bump from the DNC and presumably from the VP pick.  Don't know how 538 is doing it but seems dumb to give odds now if you aren't taking that into account.

538 does take into consideration the convention bounce.  Didn't see anything about VP though.  Looking at the polls, looks like it was the Dallas shooting (w/ maybe some of picking Pence) that seemed to help Trump out the most.  Fascinating stuff.  Hilary probably hoping for no more attacks domestic or abroad which is a bit sad for a former Secretary of State vs someone w/ no foreign policy experience although guess it doesn't matter when its still your policy in place.

I don't really see the story if the guy that wrote the article also helped write the speech.
Just another indication how amateurish and not ready for prime time the Trump campaign is. Ryan Lizza probably summed it up the best:

Ryan Lizza  @RyanLizza

Absolutely unfathomable that a speechwriter would self-plagiarize for Trump's son's speech after yesterday's debacle.

Yeah I read that. Just don't really agree. Seems as silly trying to make something out of Obama using words Patrick gave him.

Is this really a quality, one you would like to see in the White House?

Because it sounds somewhat dictatorial, monarchial even (in the absolute sense, not the constitutional monarchies that prevail today)

Sounds like Obama and his executive orders.

When 1/2 your citizens don't care, and near the other 1/2 know next to nothing; when your then-elected representatives are bought and sold like fungible commodities; when the ridiculous clown Donald Trump is one major party's standard bearer and the crooked clowns Clinton the other's ~ your nation is in deeeeep deep trouble.

It also doesn't help when your citizens are melodramatic and paranoid, unable to take a deep breath and realize that our country has the most powerful military and economy on the planet and has, over the last eight years, become more prosperous, more secure and safer by almost any reasonable measure. That attitude makes them susceptible to fear-mongering buffoons who sell them anger at problems instead of answers to them.

Your formatting is fantastic.
For you though, anything:

I was really kidding, I had no problem with your post, but actually you did a nice job here.

  1. He's said he wants no blacks only Jews counting his money.
Washington Post went all-in on the racism this morning.  The full comment actually was much worse than that:

“I’ve got black accountants at Trump Castle and at Trump Plaza — black guys counting my money!” O’Donnell’s book quoted Trump as saying. “I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. Those are the kind of people I want counting my money. Nobody else. . . . Besides that, I’ve got to tell you something else. I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is; I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.”

O’Donnell said in an interview that he admonished Trump not to talk that way.

“You’re sitting there listening to him talk in stereotypes about black people being lazy and that it was a trait in his mind. And you just go, ‘Oh my God,’ ” O’Donnell said.

Trump told Playboy magazine that O’Donnell’s memoir was “probably true.” He told The Post earlier this year that the book was “fiction,” although he hadn’t read it. Trump said he fired O’Donnell, but O’Donnell said he quit.

But wait, there's more!

A few months after the Central Park incident, Trump appeared on an NBC-TV special called “Racial Attitudes and Consciousness Exam,” hosted by Bryant Gumbel. He appeared to criticize affirmative action.

“A well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market,” Trump said on the program. “I think sometimes a black may think they don’t have an advantage or this and that. I’ve said on one occasion, even about myself, if I were starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I believe they do have an actual advantage.”
Love the extra twist of referring to a black person as "a black." Adds a little flair to this otherwise run of the mill ignorance.

You know, out of all the things Trump has done. All the racist, xenophobic comments. The misogynistic and bigoted remarks. Out of all those things, the thing I hate him for the most, without any real doubt in my mind, is that he has forced me to vote for Hillary Clinton. That is unforgivable.

If our politicians "nearly" mirror the citizenry and our wants, what Trump has said, and people cheer, is really scary. If that is the case, Trump won't be any kind of unifier since his voters seem to follow what he is saying. If Trump got on stage and told everyone he wanted to segregate schools again, it looks like his voters would be all for it.

One thing that he is absolutely correct about, is that America needs to be great again. It isn't currently great.

The issue, however, is that the reason this country is no longer great, is due to the population of Americans who support Trump. We have regressed to a nation of cowardly, xenophobic, racists who seem to pride themselves on ignorance and tough-guy posturing.

That's just it, those voters are living the motto but are the ones standing in the way of making the motto happen. It's a scary irony that is really close to happening and people cheer about it. It's crazy.

I've got a friend like this.  We went camping together.  He walked around with his concealed carry sidearm on him the whole first night.  It was like .... really dude?

But no camp burglar came in and raped or robbed you, did they?

Yeah, no, I didn't THINK so.

We've always had those people. Yet we've always been great. Personally I would argue that by any overall objective standard we're currently a greater nation that at any time in our history.

I want to add: I think there are less bigots and racists than ever before- it's just that social media makes them louder than they've been. And most Trump supporters are not bigots, IMO: he simply serves as a vehicle for their disapproval of politics as usual.

Sorry Tim, I disagree.

You cannot support the man after everything he's said, done and said he'll do and not be lumped in with the bigots, racists and xenophobes.

Support for Trump is a tacit endorsement of the values he represents. This is, unfortunately, a lesser of two evils election.

Nobody thought to bring this up?
You mean during the GOP primary race?  It certainly wouldn't have helped any of his rivals, and might have hurt them.

I'm sure the Clinton campaign is waiting for a good time to really press him on it. Long way to go. This feels more like a September type story, when the conventions are over and everyone's back from their August vacations and is focused on the race. More attention, less time left for Trump and voters to put it in their rear view mirrors.

I know this country is great and I know it has been great for some time but you wouldn't know it by what the Republicans are parroting. There is no, "America is great because...," rhetoric. Quite the opposite and when you look at the opposite like Harry wrote out, it is scary to think/know that there are many people who believe it isn't great for stupid reasons... or selfish reasons... or bigoted reasons... however you want to put it.

Fixed that from the other side.

What's wrong with 3rd party bro?

Mine too. He never thought he would get this far and has not been given an out that he could take and still proclaim his greatness. Thus he is stuck where he is. He's backed into a corner and is in line to lose to Hillary (his bank account won't care, because she will make him richer if she is in office). However, he will be the guy that lost not only to a woman, but a woman that the majority of Americans despise, and any politician that was even remotely liked, would have smoked.

Give us a list why America is not great, please.
The Red Sox have won the World Series 3 times since 2004 while the Yankees have only won once.

The Rangers haven't won the cup since 1994.

The new X-Files was kinda lame.

Someone thought it was a good idea to remake Ghostbusters.

There are no Pokemon's in my office.

Stephen A. Smith gets paid to talk.

The last couple Die Hard movies were really bad.

There are 3 Godfather movies but 4 Sharknado movies.

Chris Berman is still on TV.

Khalesi hasn't started a war in the west yet.

And the scientif proof for a planet turned into a weapon that can destroy other planets wasn't perfectly in line with the latest paper from M.I.T. calling into question the very nature of this weapon's existence and how it could possibly be used without someone seeing it getting built and wondering, hey, this might not be good.

I could go on, but I'm sure you would agree we are dealing with a lot of stuff here.

Most folks voting for Trump avoid this thread because this is basically just a Trump bash thread, nobody that supports him is allowed to talk. it's gotten so obvious that none of you would have backed any of the GOP no matter who emerged. You just hitched your wagon to anyone that had no chance so you could rip on Trump all the way thru the election. And you either never vote anyways but say you are one party or the other as to whatever fits your foul mood and posts.

No GOP lifer could ever say they were going to vote for Hilary. Stay home and not vote? I get it but to actually walk in and hit the button for Clinton, not sure you really hate Obama as much as you seem to lead on.

Look at the thread. Maybe only 20-25% of the population supports him, maybe that's the rogue group where we have a private thread discussing Trump...25 of us I guess. We don't check in that much and we don't get our panties in a knot every time you all take 1 snippet and then paste it like it's his official policy. You all are using a traditional way of measuring things with a candidate that you can't put in a box.

And now you have gone as far as to say all the people who might for Trump are the problem, to me that shows red handed you are Liberal whether you actually say it or not, whether you brainwash yourself to think otherwise, you are internet bullies and likely would never say a word if you were in the middle of a bunch of Trump supporters.

It's not tough guy, you all are the bullies that pushed a lot of folks to private corners of this site just to have a discussion because you hate Trump that much. It's sour grapes at best and i think going forward no matter who the GOP front runner is will forever get beat down now from within the party. After trump leaves the only thing that will happen is you lose every time to a progressive when you had a mod progressive in house and chose not to back him.

His reaching out to Kasich showed he wanted to have a strong VP to handle all these problems so many of you were worried about but Kasich decides he wants nothing to do with him and shows he wasn't really wanting to be President either.  And you can also point to that and say "See, trump is not a President, he wanted the VP to do everything."

And I would agree with you because most voting for Trump only wanted him to be the face and probably never thought his actual policies would be put in place. That's the disconnect with many of you. You think all the folks backing Trump are dumb and that's not the case. He was simply a face and voice that was popular enough to win...Kasich, Christie, Carson, Bush, none of them could muster any votes, nobody believed in most of these wimpy wimps.

And the anti-Trumps here and all over the media are doing their best to tear him up and it probably will end up working down the stretch but it's a shame that people have a chance to turn the table over and reset, the closest you might see to some kind of revolution and instead folks want more VANILLA, good for all of you.

And when Hilary puts 2-3 Supreme Court nominees with very progressive views...who am I talking to? This board is 75% Liberal as we have found out, you all will be celebrating it seems.

When Hillary gets her Supreme Court Nominees you can thank your fellow GOPers for nominating a narccisitic clown to be POTUS.

At least that's one thing Trump will be able to brag about next year, that he helped make the SC liberal again.

Did anyone else picture a single tear drop forming in the corner of his eye as he hammers this out one letter at a time?

I think that is too simplistic. We have to look at why Americans support Trump. Neo-liberalism has failed, globalism has failed too many people. The ruling elite and the rich line their own pockets at the expense of a middle class that is falling behind. Working class jobs are not as well-paying because they have gone overseas. People are angry. Trump allows them to vent. It is not hard to understand that Trump's popularity is rooted in discontent with government and economic policy.

If America is not great, it is because we have spent too much time and effort making a bunch of developing world hell-holes better. (and in some cases, worse)
