You might well be right about the race getting closer (although the tightening did in fact reverse itself in the latest round of polls), but if so, only because the media, attempting to do a hatchet job rivaling that they pulled on Al Gore sixteen years ago, makes it happen. However, I'm more optimistic. I see this as a woman in the fight of her life against not just a cartoon caricature - yet, a deadly serious one - of a fascist, but also against the soulless media desperate for a horserace to drive their ratings (and seemingly oblivious to the potential consequences of their actions in an utter reckless disregard of their "journalistic" responsibility, but that ship sailed some time back). In fact, it might be the fight of all of our lives, no exaggeration. So she's not feeling well. Nevertheless, she attends an event that is incredibly important to all of us in this country, but also carries an additional direct personal meaning for her given her job at the time of the event being commemorated. And after 90 minutes in the sun wearing body armor under a dark suit she . . . is troubled by the heat and humidity briefly. So what? I've seen - and I bet some here like DD have seen many more times than I have - midshipmen at the Naval Academy get dizzy or even get disoriented briefly from the heat at ceremonies. She was ill. She pushed herself to the limit. She went further than many would have gone. Her opponent, incidentally, left the same event early, perhaps because he was bored, but we don't know because he doesn't have a pack of raving media wolves following his every movement.
Assuming that she makes a full recovery, this could even have the *opposite* impact of that you're anticipating, because it shows how much of a fighter she is.
In any case, I've never seen so many right-wing extremists so concerned about a woman's health.

Seems to be just another classic case of the GOP/conservative projection-deflection game. They're probably really worried about Trump's health (to the extent they really want him elected: "bigwigs" like Paul Ryan can't quite seem to make up their minds on that, but I'm really talking about the fringe Trump supporters "well" represented in the FFA here), so they make a huge case out of Clinton's health instead. But that's put them in an interesting position, hasn't it? It's like when they (through their judicial activist arm) discovered the otherwise-useless Equal Protection Clause in order to help Dubya into office, or developed a sudden strong interest in free speech when it came to advocating for unlimited dark money donations.

Sure. I'm a fan going back nearly a quarter-century now. Back then she was an amazing First Lady. You're right: the Hillary thread is a complete joke. It's not really his fault, but the fact that tim started it and was or still is the most active poster therein drew out all of his haters from jump. Then of course you have the predictable proliferation of utter right-wing kooks and what appear to be a lot of sock puppets parroting their alter egos' RNC talking points. Plenty of rollies and very little of substance or deserving of much discussion. Your term is apt.

They need to be careful of the precedent they set, should they need to replace Hillary on the ticket.
I know Gary Johnson had to jump through some hoops to get on the Ohio ballot as an Independent due to some complications in the Ohio ballot law with another name being put as a placeholder under Libertarian.

So let's discuss Trump's talk about 9/11
1. He said he could see people jumping out of the twin towers from his apartment. His apartment is 4 miles away.
2. He says that he watched on TV thousands of Muslims in Jersey City cheering 9/11. That never happened.
3. He bragged shortly afterwards that his buildings were now the tallest in New York. Both false AND classless.
4. Despite suffering no damage to his buildings, he applied for and collected at least $150,000 in taxpayer money for "repairs".
But of course none of this got discussed yesterday because Hillary was sick.

This would have nothing to do with having to replace Hillary. The D's are on the ballot and if the candidate needed to be replaced for some reason there are rules in place.

I typically argue that running for office should be a lot easier. I don't know why it should cost a fee to run and I don't see why in some states it is so ridiculously tough to even get on the ballot. I mean we know why they do that but there is no legitimate reason. However it's kind of nuts that Evan McMullin can get in the ballot in MN and Trump's campaign couldn't figure out how to do it without any hiiccups. I'm sure he will be on it eventually but you raise a really good point, the Dems had better be thinking about procedural requirements you know 'just in case'. It's not automatic.

I don't think ballot requirements should be onerous but I think there should be some, just to discourage non-serious candidates from cluttering up the ballot. I remember when Arnold Schwartzenegger won his first race for Governor of California there were like 50 candidates on the ballot, including hucksters and porn stars just using the process to generate publicity for themselves. I think that sort of situation makes it more challenging for voters to have an informed opinion about their vote.

This where Trump will create conflict. I think it's possible he does not go after Hillary in the debates, but rather he attacks one or more moderators. Interesting that he's doing it in advance and he could always use this as an excuse to skip a debate or all of them.MattFancy said:

You really aren't paying attention if this is what you think. Look how the media killed Lauer, it is obvious they are sending a message to the moderators to crush Trump and be easy on Hillary, so Trump is sending his own message to the moderators to be fair.

Combine that with lack of transparency about her health, and even with all of Trump's sound bites that could be used against him since he decided to run, I don't see voters going out to the polls confident if her health is in serious doubt, on top of some having trust issues with her candidacy. The left won't admit it, but this could be playing out into the nightmare scenario.
Could've been avoided if they didn't rig their own convention against Bernie. I don't buy into his politics, but feel right or wrong he would've been a much harder win for Trump. That party has only themselves to blame if this thing with Hillary's health goes off the rails. They rigged the Democratic primary for her and didn't do due diligence on this, for real?

It's amazing to me that Bernie an admitted socialist would have a better shop at beating Trump, but you're right. Bernie would probably be winning big. I have no idea where this country is going but socialism is not the answer.

It's unbelievable to me that behind closed doors, this was vetted even somewhat recently as, "**** it, it's her time." My gosh, no matter where your politics fall it's about winning. I'm not a big Trump guy and that's baffling in its own right that he rose against the stronger losing candidates like Rubio and Kasich, etc. but that's another conversation for another day and not my point. You can't Comey her health if it's in serious doubt. You go with the strongest candidate to in the case of the Democratic party hold the White House demonstrating the strongest chance to win the votes. Against all odds stacked against him, Bernie engaged the country and gave Clinton a run for her money, and I think he would've beat Trump. From that perspective, the logic to prop her if any serious health issues have been known in closed circles for a long time just baffles me.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Bernie did as well as he did. The country in general is becoming much friendlier to having a wider social net. His policies were pragmatic and have worked in other western countries. It's only a big bloc of American voters who still insist on seeing those policies as "socialism." Republicans should just rename themselves The Anti-Progress Party (TAPP).

It appears that in the last few weeks, Trump's campaign has been taken over by traditional Republicans. This is the work, no doubt, of Kellyanne Conway. If I could be assured that these same people would run Trump's presidency, I would be much more comfortable with a Trump victory. I still wouldn't prefer it, but at least I wouldn't be terrified.

Yep, "socialism" is not the answer if you're looking to be in the top 20 list of countries for doing business. A bunch of "socialist" countries in the top 20 (top 10 domination) but the US is not. Socialism bad!

I think Bernie's popularity had less to do with the social safety net more to do with fighting back against the robber barons. Look at the stuff that just came out about Wells Fargo. The banks are screwing us all and Bernie was the only one speaking up about it.

that she assumes the average voter won't investigate for themselves. It's not part of Trump's agenda or platform to pick a fight with Wall Street. I'll trade Trump's pending audit tax returns for those Wall Street paid speaking arrangement transcripts all day, rather Trump should just release the tax returns and put the heat on her to release the transcripts very publicly, along with her medical records. Bernie's not beholden to the banks, thus why he could and would rail against them relentlessly. Not sure about that. Remember, Trump's got an anti-Semite running his campaign and a massive number of anti-Semitic supporters. Taking down the Jews would definitely put a hurting on the banks.
(seriously- I'm all for reducing the influence of the financial industry, but could we maybe take down demagoguery and White Nationalism first?)
