I don't think the old rules are going to apply to this election.  I really don't.  I could easily see a Trump winning a lot of Northern states that used to go Democrat, and at the same time could see Hillary winning some Southern states that used to go Republican.  This is a completely different game today.  It's like trying to handicap a pro football game and bringing up a a head to head matchup from 10 years ago when there wasn't one player from either team on the roster back then.

The Loyalty Pledge only says "I will endorse the nominee", not "I will endorse the presumptive nominee". Trump isn't the nominee yet.

If Bush and Graham bash Donald through July 18, then stay silent through November 7, then endorse Donald on November 8, then they would have fulfilled their obligations under the Loyalty Pledge.

Same old rules, Perot, Wallace, Thurmond, killed one of the two main parties' chances at the top of the ticket and down ticket, what's changed except that this time it's an actual party label behind the name.

Paul Ryan seems to me like an honest dude. He ran for office pledged to conservative principles of government that he firmly believes in. Now he is being asked to abandon those principles. 

He can, and should refuse to do so. It does not matter that "the voters have spoken" as you claim. We don't live in a direct democracy. The Founding Fathers gave us representatives serving terms of office because they wanted our leaders to make more informed decisions than the general public acting on a whim. It was the danger of populism and a Donald Trump that they were trying to prevent.

If you're a GOP candidate how are you supporting the guy who stands against every rung in your candidacy except immigration, and even if he does support what you support he might just change his mind if asked the right/wrong way?

Here's the really beautiful thing if you're a run of the mill GOP Congressman.

Your opponent can likely show Trump saying something on either side of every issue, then juxtapose your face with it. Awesome. The voters who support the conservative position can stay home, the people who support the moderate/liberal position can just vote for the actual Democrat.

Hillary is a traditional American Democrat, which since 1933, means that she believes that government should aid capitalism but not fight it, and that good government should involve itself in trying to help social ills. She is also a believer in the Henry Luce theory of the "American century", which since 1945 means that America is the preeminent country in the world and is fundamentally committed to liberty around the globe, to the freedom of people's and trade, and opposition to dictatorships, human want, and terror. 

Donald Trump is neither to the right nor the left of Hillary. He is neither liberal nor conservative. His only stable views are for authoritarianism and isolationism. All of his other positions are "fluid".

He's a nationalist folks. Nationalists from Chavez to that bad guy who we shall not name had left of center views.

Trump has said he will "stop" companies from leaving the country. That folks is far - far - to the left of Sanders, that is Chavezism right there, no exaggeration, presuming you think he means it.

And I don't think Trump supporters care either way.  What has been "conservative" over the last 20 years has failed them.  What has been "liberal" has failed them as well.

The paradigm is shifting.  The people's support is empowering Trump to change the Republican party.  I don't understand why this is so difficult to comprehend.

It isn't. What YOU don't seem to understand is that Trump supporters are a minority of the public, and that this will be proven in November. Yes the paradigm has shifted for you and other Republican voters who chose this guy as your standard bearer, but in the bigger scheme of things you are going to be shown to be irrelevant. So enjoy the next few months, Cinderella,  because midnight is approaching. 

 
Being that it's Mother's Day, it's a great reminder that women have a role in raising the children, cooking and cleaning. They should not be in politics or announcing sporting events.

Even if Trump doesn't win, his supporters have forced a paradigm shift.  They have brought to life several issues that have previously not been appropriately addressed by either side.  Issues like 

1) the notion that we should not be the world police without proper backing

2) free trade agreements have hurt middle class jobs

3) the delegate system is corrupt and needs to be overhauled

4) superpacs are bad

5) we have serious immigration issues

6) The Repubican party was socially too far right for the evolving demographics

And there are more...

There are a number of wins here that will have lasting impact on American politics.  You'd be a fool to believe otherwise.

Bull####. I've had to pinch my nose several times over the years getting on board with the Republican nominee.  It's their turn.  That's what it means to be in a political party.  You rally around the nominee, even if you disagree with him on some issues.

The voters have spoken.  Trump is the Republican nominee.  Get on board or find another party.  Spoiled ####### brats, all of them.

You actually bring up some good points. But many of these points align with the Democratic party. So, instead of the Republicans shifting to the left, you will just see Republicans defecting to the Democratic party, just as Southern Democrats did when they defected to the Republican party in 1948.

As of 2015, this country was 48% Democrat (or lean-Democrat) and 39% is Republican (or lean-Republican). Even if just 5% of current Republicans defect to the left, it will be devastating not only to the Republican party, but to conservative ideology in general.
