At minimum we discovered bigotry, sexism, and even sexual assault are not dealbreakers to the base of the GOP, and in "certain areas" (to steal a line from Trump) will even help you get elected.  For every Ana Navarro there are 10 more than willing to go along for the ride.  Certainly Hillary being a bad candidate was part of the story, but Trump was hugely popular in those "certain areas".  The down ballot Republicans who supported him did very well.  There's not much incentive to deviate from that script.  I expect the rest of the GOP to more or less embrace his vision.

Sure.  Trump took IA, WI, MI, and PA.  Since 1992, guess how many times any of those states went red?

Once - Iowa in 2004.  That's 4 states over 6 elections.  Dems carried them 23 out of 24 tries...and Trump took all of them.  Historically Democratic voters in historically democratic states got Trump elected.

Just to make sure I understand your argument, are you saying that historically Democratic voters backed Trump or stayed home?

I agree.  My brother was lamenting the loss earlier today.  I said "dude, the next four years are going to be epic for guys like us.  We get to #### with everybody."

It's not an argument as much as a statement of fact.  You can see it if you dig down into the results by county.  Give it time and I'm guessing you'll see some articles written about it - or books for that matter.

Dems staying home didn't help (the DNC drove away the younger voters), but union workers in the rust belt will have had a greater influence on this election than any other single group.  The DNC neglected their base of blue collar workers and it came back to bite them.

If the democrats don't do this - within reason, of course they have to fight back on things - will they get any credit? 

People have to be ready to allow concessions on both sides.

It's true i've been told I was a deplorable irredeemable non american. The stock market going up and vanquishing the bully who was calling me names is a refreshing change of pace.

Trump's numbers basically mirror Romney's numbers. He didn't win over Democrats, they stayed home. Ultimately the result is the same. But the Trump Democrats are a myth.

He got fewer votes than Romney. He won the match-up in front of him and deserves a lot of credit for it, but it doesn't look like he outperformed recent republicans in getting his base out. It's possible that he made the whole election such a ####show that it turned off more Dems than Republicans. 

The GOP is Trump's party now, so we'll see where he goes with it.

Trump votes = Romney votes, that doesn't mean same number of republicans voted in 2012 and 2016. What probably happened is less republicans showed up, and more democrats/independents voted for Trump. There were many Trump democrats especially in Mich, Wisc, Ohio, PA. Do you have exit polling showing something different?

Go check out some counties in the midwest where Obama won by 25+ points, but Trump won this year. Tons of democrats voting for Trump.

Get any credit for what?  Not filibustering?  Hard to say...it's been a generation or so since the minority party didn't do that, so I don't even know what it would look like.

Good grief.  Trump simply ripped a page out of the Obama playbook.  Assume the base will vote party line and energize a dispirited voting block that's normally dormant into voting for you.

So like I said, that is not true at all.  Trump's numbers were better than Romney's.  Clinton's numbers in 2016 were still stronger than Romney's in 2012.  This wasn't just Dems staying home, nor was it the GOP merely turning out to vote.

I choose not to gloat or anything of the sort. Lots of work to be done and Trump needs to chill and not become a dictator.

That said, I took a buttload of heat just in the past couple days from the left on this board because of my positions, which turned out to fall in line with the electoral majority, so I am admittedly very pleased that some of you are feeling bad right now. Some of the others were very fair and reasoned in our debate so kudos to you. Others called me names from lunatic, to idiot, to moron (I think I'm remembering them correctly). You folks deserve to eat crow and I hope you feel like ####. I'm not gloating, but you folks need to understand that there are other points of view and attacking me for expressing mine earlier was neither fair, nor warranted. But whatever. Election's over and we move on.

This is kind of weird.  You sound like a One Direction fan arguing that they're a great band because they were at the top of the charts.

That's been the case for the past 14 months in here. Lots of obnoxious, big mouth, know it all posters got what was coming to them with this. 

I will say a few like Couer and Same song and Toby and General have done a nice job today of taking their lumps with class.
