My wife still isn't over the results.  She watched a re-run of the Colbert election night live special.  She was almost in tears by the end as what was supposed to be a show about mocking Trump turned into something more resembling a wake.  Her and her friends keep wondering how a scumbag like Trump who said such horrible things about so many people could have been elected.

I try to get her to understand that we (white, upper middle class) are really insulated in many ways from the rest of the country.  Sure we can relate to those in the city and suburbs and we think we're tolerant of everyone, but we really have no idea what life is like for those who live outside our scope of experience.  Those whose lives are truly impacted when industries close down or move overseas.  I try to tell her that those people understand that Trump's a ####, but at least he appears to care about their issues and they'd rather have a #### be president if it gave them a shot at a better life.

Of course she's a woman so no amount of logic can penetrate her shell of unreasonableness.  If this continues and impacts my sex life I will blame @ClownCausedChaos2 and all those who voted for Trump in PA and Michigan.
It wasn't some mysterious group of Americans living in a "Deliverance" like backwoods or people bunkered down in the shell of an old factory that shipped off to Mexico. The people that voted for Trump are mostly the people that voted for Romney. I know and have met many many Trump voters. Most of them were middle class to upper middle class people that vote Republican. Off the top of my head: Italian-American immigrant and owner of concrete business, his wife is a nurse. The owner of a brewery and a chemical supply company. A school psychologist and his wife, a teacher.

To be fair, he has business interests all over the world...including America.
And he is open to US corporate influence here and foreign influence across the board. I believe Donald has denied having business interests in Russia specifically though.

Russia btw in particular is not our friend however. They are the ones who have declared a Cold War 2.0, not us. That would actually qualify them as our enemy.

If he denied it, that's ####ty on his part. He lies about everything. My point was just I assume he has business operations all over the world. Of course he will be influenced by forces that can impact his business. Everyone knew that. It was a major reason to not elect him.

I never said it was backwards hicks, nor did I say that only these people voted for Trump.  Of course most Republicans voted for Trump, however he was pushed to the forefront and over the top by his base of support.  That base includes people left behind in the new economy and those who feel that Washington cares not for their issues or concerns.  I think we sometimes forget that not every American has prospered and feels strongly about their and their children's future.

It's going to be a long four years. Again, my advice to you instead of being dismissive, try to understand the reason behind the protests. You're obviously not even close ...
The reason they are protesting is because of they refuse to understand why their candidate lost.

Why are they protesting this and not the way they held Bernie from being the nominee ?

My point was that lots of white upper middle class America support Trump. It's not some insulated group of people or some silent majority.

They understand. I understand.

Last time I'll comment on this as many Trumpers think this is about only losing... It's way more than that and won't disappear any time soon. This isn't the rerun of the tea party. This is the popular vote. I personally am scared for my rights. I understand and encourage peaceful protesting. And, I know about 10 women who are heading to DC for the women's  march.

Yes, I love it. Trump likes Obamacare...
Trumpers already looking like fools as the reason they voted for him he already is unstable on. Check that, Trump still hates black people, so Trumpers still love him.

Oh, and other countries already outing him as a liar. China says the spoke, Trump says the have not.
Trumpers are fools.

I dont expect a racist like Dexter to get tired of all the racism winning.
If you are celebrating whats happening right now, even as a Trumper. You dont love the country or the people in it and ARE a racist.
Normal people love others, black or white, racists hate other group and celebrate their pain.
:lmao:

They understand. I understand.

Nothing ever wrong with a peaceful March.

Why aren't they protesting why Bernie wasn't the nominee? they admitted it was rigged.   Bernie was tapping into the same rage that Trump was and polls had him 10 points up on Trump.

To be fair, he has business interests all over the world...including America.
but but but I read on cnn.com which is totally a news site and not a tabloid rag that President Elect Trump once flew his plan near Cuba. What do you have to say about that you racist bigot woman hater? Huh! checkmate atheist.

You are scared for your rights because you've been lied too . The DNC tried to demonize Trump , he's hitler . He's against gays when in fact he pissed off extreme righties at the convention by including LGBT in his speech . This is the reason scared kids are in the streets . They poisoned the minds with boogeyman stories and now you are afraid .

Blame the Clintons and DNC

Why? What has Trump said or done to make you feel this way?

I never supportered Bernie. It's how super delegates work.

I never supported Trump. It's how the EC works.

So not sure your point here ...

There's a lot of truth to this... and both sides do it. They whip their supporters into a frenzy demonizing the other side to try and win but don't do much to address the residual... so you have people like Beavers fearing for her rights and not realizing this was simply campaign rhetoric.

Can someone remind me again of what horrific bathroom incident precipitated  this nonsense ?
Using Title IX to force schools to conform is what set a lot of this in motion I believe.

There were a few cases where girls were forced to share showers/locker rooms with biological boys.

I think it was a rather silly issue for Dems to pick a fight over and obviously that particular fight is now over.

Me too. But culturally I believe we've passed the tipping point in favor of gay marriage as a legal issue of constitutional rights
My fear is who is advising him. I would hope we are past that point, but I thought the same about racism, sexism, etc.

Agreed.  I can understand Beavers concerns though and as a white male I have no idea what she's going through. I like to believe we've come along far enough as a society no matter who's in charge nothing will change as far as the gay communities rights go.

I agree that part of HRC's plan was to paint Trump as extremely negative and that stoked flames of fear. Do not let Donald off the hook though. He said and did several things that could scare people (Muslim immigration ban, Mexican immigrants are rapists, pretending like he didn't know who David Duke was, etc.)

I'm lesbian. I have a child, and a partner. I have very good reasons to be scared.
"As your president I will do EVERYTHING in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens"

He said this at the RNC and received a stand ovation. Think about that for a second. He said that at the republican national convention.

He also said this, back when Hillary was telling everyone she was for traditional marriage.

Why should gays and lesbians be interested in you as a presidential candidate?
"I grew up in New York City, a town with different races, religions, and peoples. It breeds tolerance. In all truth, I don’t care whether or not a person is gay. I judge people based on their capability, honesty, and merit. Being in the entertainment business — that is, owning casinos and … several large beauty pageants — I’ve worked with many gay people. I have met some tough, talented, capable, terrific people. Their lifestyle is of no interest to me."

Do you know who the first three people he appointed to his staff? A woman, a gay man and a black man.

Turn off the MSM all they are doing is pumping you full of fear. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Oh and one last thing Gay marriage was settled by the SCOTUS (which was conservative controlled) 5-4

Some Mexican illegals are rapists. Hth

Agree here. I do not see any reason gay or transgendered people should worry. Trump might be crass or say something cringeworthy, but no reason to think he wants fight a cultural war in that arena. I would be more worried if something happened to Trump and Pence took over.

Maybe we only passed the "tipping point" on gay rights because far-right conservatives never thought there was a realistic way to reverse the trend, so they begrudgingly accepted defeat.

And it doesn't really matter if the majority of conservatives favor gay marriage or not, and it doesn't matter if Trump himself supports gay marriage. All it takes is one more Supreme Court justice to undo everything that the gays have gained over the past 50 years.

Sure, but that isn't what Trump said. He said "some, I assume, are good people." The speech painted Mexican immigrants as mostly rapists and drug dealers and probably some good people too.

Did scalia stop the gains?

Settle down. Jeebus

No wrong. That's what Hillary and the msm wanted you to think. Anyone that isn't programmed knows he meant some are good and some are rapists, murderers and drug dealers.

Hillary had a fear-mongering strategy during the campaign and this created a lot of stress even before Trump won the election.  I think Trump is going to focus on the economy and trade as his #1 priority.  He seems to empathize with people and their hardships so I hope he will do the right thing for all Americans.

Scalia certainly tried to stop the gains.

Have you suggested some mental health care for her might be in order? Being reduced to tears by Colbert is not healthy.

Facts are all illegals are criminals and let's not call them "Mexican immigrants" the correct term is illegal immigrant.  There are plenty of Mexican immigrants that don't want to be lumped in with those that jumped the line.
