CHARLOTTE — Keyshawn Johnson looked at a group of reporters and tried to guess what the newspaper headlines would be."Steve Smith not here. Panthers doomed," Johnson said Wednesday.
No, the Panthers are NOT doomed, my friend. In fact, they're just ready to break in their third superstar in three years.Keyshawn?Nah.His name, my friends, is Drew Carter. Dude is owned in ONE PERCENT of all CBS Sportsline leagues right now. That one percent is probably all mine. However, he's the deep threat. Keyshawn is a possession receiver. Keary Colbert has had chances. In very limited time last year, Carter showed his flashes.5 receptions103 yards1 TD.Nice statline, right? He's relatively unknown. He had a rash of injuries in college, causing him to only have 650 yards and one touchdown in a limited college career. He's not someone you want to drop a good player for. However, we know Delhomme. He's going to be looking for a guy. Keyshawn just isn't that type of guy, and the next guy on the depth chart is Carter--and he has the skills. If Smith's injury keeps him out for a bit...Hop aboard, everyone.

What do you think of his dynasty outlook?
I just picked him up in mine. He's worth a flier, to be sure. The injury history does worry me, though...but dude's got big play potential, especially in that offense. He's not a Matt Jones type, but considering he's on 99% of waiver wires right now, deep leagues, both dynasty and redraft, need to start taking a look at this guy.If Delhomme stays in Carolina, Carter could get some serious action as Smith and Johnson age.

I too nabbed him in a start-3 WR PPR dynasty league with 40-man rosters (it's an IDP league too). It's not often that you can grab a guy at this time of the year who's an explosive WR3 with a chance to start in an offense that figures to throw pretty well.

Exactly.Hop on, people. After this weekend, the train will be overbooked.

I selected Drew Carter with a $2 bid (out of $500) and "redshirted" him for this season. Don't ask how it makes sense in our league... After this season, I'll have him at $2 for the 2007, 2008, and 2009 season. I'm pretty happy about it.

And I think the bandwagon is starting to roll. I actually had 2-3 owners try and trade for him. Good stuff.

I've been on the bandwagon. Took him in the last round in the No Mercy/Great White league back on the 21st of July. I'm almost positive i was wrote off as crazy after that one. Mwa ha ha haaaaa. :D

Carolina Homer here. He's been on my dynasty roster since about mid-season last year. Here's hoping this train takes off!

On board as well, at least until Smith is back. I just noticed he didn't make Dodd's cut on the prelim cheetsheet today. An oversight? Or does he know something we don't?

Dodd's doesn't have the inside connection with Smith's babysitter like...nevermind.

As a reciever I really like this guy. Talent is through the roof.

Unfortunately, Injuries are ravaging the O line in Carolina and Carter is dropping way too many balls. He should have had 8 catches in the last game, at least.

IMO this one needs another year to cook.

More relevant question in redraft leagues is this: if/when Smith is back healthy, can Carter supplant Keyshawn and be their #2 WR?

Carter seems to have the size of keyshawn to handle the ossession routes. Sound slike he doesn't have his hands though.

So basically any value Carter has this year is tied to the health of Steve Smith? No shot at playing alongside him?

So here is the million dollar question.

If I own Steve Smith, and picked up Keyshawn for week 1 :( , do I keep Keyshawn and play him if Smith is OUT or drop Keyshawn and pick up Drew Carter to be Steve Smith's handcuff.

Not looking for ACF information, just assume Keyshawn is #4 WR if Smith is healthy.

What's with the big numbers today? The guy has not done anything since week 6. I don't see anything in the injury thread.

Either Weinke is a better QB at working thru the progressions or Henning finally got his head out of his ###.

What's the deal with Smith? I've heard nothing other than he was slightly limping but returned a kick. I, for one, would not feel comfortable starting Carter at this point in the playoffs of a 12 team redraft league. But maybe they start to give their youth a look.

Thanks, I was thinking this was a crazy thread for Smith's minor tweak. Relieved.
