I've got a car that's worth $10k, and someone offers me $10k for it. It's fair, but I'm not motivated to sell because I still need the car. Gotta overpay to make the other guy sell...

The original deal we had worked out was BTJ + the 2 firsts for Chase.

Then I got a little greedy & added Goff to the mix, so it breaks down like:
Penix+ 2026 3rd + 2027 2nd + 2027 3rd for Goff, which in SF seems somewhat reasonable.

My confidence in Penix is waning a bit. I still think he has elite arm talent. I’m not convinced he’s going to be an elite FF producer.

Goff is very underrated in SF imo. He just turned 31, not really that old by QB standards. I agree with Buckna, I think Goff has more productive FF seasons in the remainder of his career than Penix does because I think it's reasonably likely that Penix washes out long before Goff ages out. And of course productive is a minimum barrier, Penix may never have a single season that matches what Goff will provide this year and the next few.

I am giving up on BTJ and am fine missing out if it happens. I don't own him anywhere so that means I'm just not trying to buy low. He seems like Michael Clayton 2.0 to me. Everything broke just right last year, not impressed when watching him play.

This is pretty much where I was mentally with this one. Dude put Chase on the block and I remembered that during the start-up draft we came very close to doing 2x 1sts + BTJ for Chase, which got the ball rolling.

But then I got to thinking about what Penix was - I do believe he has elite arm talent, but my RB room is a little older so it helps me much more in the next 3-year window to have Goff than Penix.

BTJ is extremely disappointing to give up on. I had him last year in redraft and loved what I saw. Then the TLaw experience reared its ugly head again. I’m happy to finally not have a single Jaguar on any dynasty team. And it’s a clear upgrade even if BTJ does come around - he’ll never be Chase, a true cornerstone dynasty asset.

Definitely a win now trade. Darnold has 5ish more years left of starter level production. Dak has maybe 2. The 3rd is inconsequential in most formats. But you are correct, Dak is an upgrade from Darnold this year and with Burrow on our squad, it doesn't feel like giving up too much. Go get that 'ship!

Wandale is real wildcard...I just don't trust him and I also see the Giants adding more to that WR unit this offseason...Kraft is a fantasy legit starter and will only be 25 in November but it does seem like the Packers will not maximize him which can be a little frustrating...that being said I would need a decent amount more than Wandale to make this move...it is far easier to find a player like Wandale than one like Kraft.

I'm having a hard time with this one. It kind of sounds like you have a 3-0 team that you don't believe in and have decided to play for the 1.01? I'm not sure this is a package so good that you had no choice but to pack it in on a 3-0 team. I get it a little bit. That's a shaky RB room, but maybe Skat and Bill defy the odds and keep it above water.

Getting two years younger with Burrow while gaining a higher ceiling probably feels good going into 2026. However, the durability concerns are starting to get real for a guy that isn't a whipper snapper in his own right. I like Egbuka better than the mid/late 1st even in SF with some QB potential for the class. I like Bill better than the 3rd. So I do think you're paying a healthy price for the 2026 forward QB upgrade, which also includes throwing the towel in on a 3-0 team. I think I would have let this one play out a little longer. If your team regresses to 4-3 and a questionable playoff team, I'm sure this trade or another one like it would still be there.

My trade definitely hasn't aged the best. Just a couple weeks after I made it both Egbuka and JCM had huge games.

The other owner is close friend of mine that I've been playing dynasty fantasy football with for 15 years. We've never been able to make a trade where any asset involved in the trade was worth a 1st round or more due to both of us having similar views on roster construction evaluating trades very similarly. I think I was a bit to eager to finally make this sort of trade with him.

I think I also panicked a bit here because there is one team in the league I think could become a super team. I felt I needed another early pick to compete with him long term and was concerned if I didn't make a move I could end up lucking my way into the playoffs.

I agree with your evaluation of both Egbuka and JCM especially with a likely weak 2026 draft class. He is the WR8 right now at KTC though I do wonder in terms of caliber of WR (not necessarily play style) if he might be closer to a Jaylen Waddle, Ladd McConkey, Tee Higgans, or DeVonta Smith.

Learning from dynasty trade mistakes is half the battle. The good news is that your 6-1 team will get an influx of high draft picks along with your new #1 QB.

I read it as the classic mistake of overvaluing future draft picks when your current draft picks were already looking like homerun selections at that point of the season. With Fant in the mix, maybe also a Bengals fan getting his guys? Regardless, it's just a game and trading with friends is part of the fun. Also, it's really easy to short-change the Burrow component at this point in 2025. He comes back dealing in 2026, and that's huge in superflex, regardless of how productive Goff is at present.

More good news, you at least had the good sense to hold on to Skattebro. I thought I was selling high after the Tracy injury and first mini-breakout game, selling with Kincaid (who's also putting it together) for Tetairoa. 4th round NFL draft capital and a disposable TE for a top-10 pick, what could go wrong? Had no idea I was sending out an RB1 stud that I thought I was getting at the 1.1. Needless to see it's a big crapshoot. Both of our trades could very well work out at some point in the future pending circumstances completely out of our control.

Yeah, Tet could end up being a top 10 fantasy WR in the future and could easily be the best redraft asset in that trade a couple years so your trade could work out for you.

In terms of rooting interests, I'm a Indianapolis Colts all weather fan and IU Hoosier football fair weather fan. This is year 2 of this particular dynasty league. My homer picks were MHJ (was a big Marvin Harrison Sr. fan so I wanted his son on one of my dynasty teams) and Downs in the startup hybrid auction-draft last year. The other league I play in is a 1QB dynasty league that is now in year 16. I'm the commissioner of both leagues so that also probably makes me a bit more willing to play for the future than other owners.

If my memory serves me right I think the trade talks with my friend were like this.

1. I drafted Egbuka at 2.02 back in May 2025. I had him ranked as the 8th best prospect in the 2025 draft. My friend immediately offered me his 2026 1st for Egbuka but I told him I thought the 2026 NFL Draft was likely weak and I valued him more than a 2026 mid to late 1st.

2. About a week after Joe Burrow got hurt I mentioned to my friend that I thought about making him an offer for Joe Burrow that included Egbuka but decided against it.

3. The next week my friend followed up about what I'd be willing to give up. I told him something along the lines of Egbuka + Goff for Burrow + 2026 1st + Browning but that I felt like I still owed him about 2.07 to 2.10 pick in value of in the trade so I'd also need to add someone such as Rashid Shaheed. He asks for Skattebo or JCM instead. I am a hard no on Skattebo and tell him I'll need something back if I include JCM since I valued him around the value of a 2.02 to 2.04 pick at the time.

4. I suggest Egbuka + Goff + JCM for Burrow + 2026 1st + 2026 3rd + Browning. He says no and suggests Egbuka + Goff + JCM + Gadsden for Burrow + 2026 1st + Browning + 2026 3rd + Jalen Coker + Noah Fant. I am a hard no on including Gadsden who at the time I valued around an early to mid 2026 3rd so more than Coker or his 2026 3rd. I felt I already had several developmental WRs similar to Coker and Fannin was the only other TE on my roster that had shown any promise so I wasn't willing to flip Gadsden and Coker in the trade.

5. I countered with the trade that was ultimately accepted because he didn't want to include Tahj Brooks, Brian Robinson, or Jalen Coker instead of Noah Fant. I didn't love flipping my 2026 4th for Fant but felt those two were close enough that I wasn't going to hold up the trade over that flip.

I am at least glad that I liked Cam Skattebo or Oronde Gadsden both enough back in September that I wasn't willing to include either in the trade.

• 2026 RFA (equal to an early 2nd rookie pick - must have this to participate in the restricted free agent auction prior to draft
• 2027 RFA

NOTE: Those players that do not have years after the salary are subject to salary escalation if they finish in the top 15 of their position at the end of the year. Those with contract years are locked into that salary through the duration of the contract.

That's way too complicated for me to comprehend, and I don't play IDP or salary cap leagues so I have no clue what's happening here.

But I see CeeDee and Bowers on one side and say - that's the side for me!
