** Official ** Eagles 2008 Thread (1 Viewer)

Gentlemen,

It has been a pleasure to visit this thread several times a week for the past 2-3 months.

May our wishes come true today as I don the Midnight Green.

Andy Reid, Joe Banner and company - I wish you all the very best of luck.

Enjoy the draft boys - I'll be stopping by this when we're up.

I don't know about you guys, but I'll be highly disappointed if the Eagles don't change it up today and just draft another lineman at #19. The truth is that over that past few years, their drafts have been BAD. I want to see guys on the field. I want to see guys making an impact. If they need to trade Lito and/or picks for a top veteran WR.....that's great. I just want them to change SOMETHING. The draft is a BIG area that they lack in.

While I agree with you some, it isn't like there's a starter position up for grabs for someone to come in and just take.Kolb was a top pick - DMac is our starter.Stewart will be MIKE LB this year.Celek came in and helped when LJ Smith went down.Sure I want to see impact players as well, but their drafting is about average. 2003 was a highlight, and some picks have been bad / busts, but they aren't that bad.The truth is that if you have a good team you shouldn't be seeing many rookies until Year 2.

outside of drafting WR's, and we all know they've tried, they just keep missing.. the eagles have been very good in the draft actually. besides runyan and now samuel, every starting eagle has been drafted by the organization, including a good portion of their backups... im sure im missing some, but..QB - Mcnabb (Kolb)RB - Westy (buck/hunt)WR - reggie brownTE - LJ smithOL - todd hermanens, j. jackson, shawn andrews, tra thomas (justice/gilles)DL - Cole, Thomas, bunkley, patterson (abriami, ramsey)LB - Gocong, Gaither, BradleyCB - Lito(still on the team), sheldon brown(hanson)S - Dawkins, Mikell (considine)The only part of the draft they lack in is their evaluation of WR's. i do agree that if they can trade lito and/or picks for a top vet WR, they need to jump on it quickly, but other then WR the drafts in the reid era have been about average to above average, fielding a solid and competitive team...

Akers wasn't drafted by the Eagles, or anyone for that matter. Undrafted free agent. Played for Washington before the Eagles snatched him up.

I believe I read that the Eagles have drafted more pro bowlers in the last 10 years then any other team (10).

So far its looking like one of the top O-Lineman are gonna drop to the birds. (knock on wood)

They got a lot. The question is will McNabb be here next year? If he is then it will be the 3rd straight year on the bench for Kolb and you can consider that a wasted pick. If McNabb is gone, they will be rebuilding with 2 1st round picks. Not exactly heeding McNabbs words and getting more playmakers.

Highest pick Carolina had was 43. Did the Eagles really drop from 19 to 43?
Some major compensation on the way?
just announced, eagles get the panthers 2nd/4th round pick this year and a 1 next year. its going to go 1 of 2 ways. they package lito and a bunch of picks for a vet WR, or they move up into the late first or early second to get the player they are targeting. either way, i like this trade for the birds

Do they think there is no one that could help them THIS year!! They were 8-8 but close to being a double digit winner. ll2 years in a row trade out of the 1st rd. Mcnabb can't be happy with this. They NEED another playmaker. I hope they use all these picks to move up somewhere

So you are willing to "throw away" your 1st round pick for the 2nd year in a row. Thats not what I have been hearing in Philly. It was thought that Philly was loading up for a run this year. Now it seems that they have a decent team this year but are really trying to ensure that the expected dropoff when they transition from McNabb to Kolb isnt as great. By adding a pick next year, they can hope to surround Kolb with better players to help in his transition.

The Eagles got GREAT value from Carolina but if I was an Eagles fan, I would be a little dissapointed.

That kind of ammo makes me think they are still looking for a vet WR.
I cant tell if its just the desperate eagles fan inside me, but i tend to agree with this. They have TONS of picks now, both this year and next year AND they've been chasing every big name WR on the market so far. Maybe they will try one more run at Anquan

I really wanted a player here...but to be truthful, who was the pick if they didn't trade?

We can't use all the picks we have, but there was just too much value in this trade not to pull the trigger, since there really wasn't a difference maker at a position of need on the board.

I suspect they will package several picks to move back up to the late first and take a higher ranked WR...but obviously not the first Carolina just gave up.

would you rather your team trade their first pick, or use it to reach for a player? They can still get a decent WR prospect in Rd 2, or go after plenty of the other guys on their board. Once albert went and they didnt trade up, AR and JBanner decided they didnt like anyone else in Rd1

Wow, someone mentioned Dallas possibly packaging this first to the Lions for Roy. What a blow to the Eagles + the NFC if this happens.

That's how I feel Pat. They got good value, but I'm sick of them always looking to the future.Reid is too secure in his job and no sense of urgency. Unless all these pics turn into a vet WR I''m a little disappointed

They have 2 mid 2nd which could get them back into the 1st but then they wouldnt have a 2nd. I'm not sure what they are doing.

I think they could use the 1st round pick of Carolina's for next year to get Johnson from Cincy. Give a 2nd, Carolinas 1st and Carolina's 4th to Cincy.

Agreed here. Pretty much completely.

I see what you are saying but it is pretty presumptious of AR and Banner to have an 8-8 team and say that after pick 18 there is nobody else than can be a starter on their team. Why not trade up for Albert? It was only 4 picks.

I listen to Sports Radio here in Philly all the time and I really think the Eagles FO had the fan base energized for a run this year. I think unless something else major happens, the fan base will be let down.

Not dissapointed at all, they get a lot of value for the #19, and if there wasn't anyone they really wanted, then why not? I have enopugh faith in the organization that there is a plan to use all of these draft picks they're stockpiling.

i would've been ok with a trade up for Albert, even if it meant using Lito in some way to make it happen. But once that didnt happen, for whatever reason, i'm ok with getting rid of #19. If they dont do something big though before the end of the day, i will consider the draft a major disappointment. After signing Asante and some other minor players, plus going after all those WRs, i really felt like Mgmt was making this the McNabb make-or-break year. A sit stands now, their setting him up to fail

i really have to think the trade for Carolina's first rounder next year definately means we will go for a vet. WR. makes a lot of snese to make a trade for CJ after that June 1st date with one of the first rounders. great move.
