The fact that they didn't take Otah tells me there could be something to that rumor.Anyone out there that can tell me a bit about Jamaal Brown? Don't know a ton about him.

RT Jamaal Brown was selected 13th overall by the Saints in the 2005 draft. In 2006 he was moved to LT. He injured a leg in November 2007. Not much else there.

Well, you guys know how I feel about Lorenzo Booker; so adding him does little to excite me. Obviously he proved he can catch lots of passes and, as long as he's an ace on special teams, this just really means the Ryan Moats Era is done. I was initially perplexed by the acquisition of a 2009 1st rounder. However, if it's part of a cache the Eagles are going to dangle to acquire a veteran receiver, I'm all for it. Now we have an extra 1st and can offer that up depending on how tenuous some of these WR situations become as camp gets going.
Assuming we don't do anything with that 2009 1st rounder, it's hard to take a lot out of today's haul.
Of course I'm happy about DeSean Jackson. I wouldn't have blinked if we took him in the 1st round, simply because he's a special returner and we've needed that more than almost any other team for the last few years. And while I respect that Trevor Laws was probably the best player available, we have absolutely no need for him in 2008.

IMO Jackson is a late first round talent, and will make immediate contributions on returns. Laws grades out to a solid second round pick who will add depth to the DLine behind Patterson and Bunkley. So, pretty average 1st/2nd round picks if that were the be all/end all of the draft.
What makes it really good is the extra first in 2009, used either as bait for a #1WR or kept to add an impact player next year in the draft. Also, moving up from the 5th to 4th round is a nice bonus, and the extra 4th from Carolina turned into a 3rd string RB/special teams ace in Booker.
Philly added two players worth the 1st/2nd round picks they began the day with, added a 23 year old pass catching back/special teams guy to replace Moats, moved their 5th up over a full round tomorrow, saved first round cash, and acquired an extra first next year. Very good job.

I was just coming here to post something like this, but you did a much better job then I would have. They had two picks and I'm fine with the two players they got. Add in everything else and this looks pretty good to me.If they work out a good deal for Lito and get rid of him I will be fine with it. But if they find a way to keep him and make him happy..... wow, this defense/special teams will have a chance to be sick next year.Edit - In Andy's press conference he basically says he is sure they will be moving around a lot in the next few rounds. We would all guess that anyway, but it could still be an interesting day tomorrow.

Where are these Jamaal Brown rumors coming from? He is one year removed from being an all-pro. I think he'll be traded rather than re-signed, and the injuries are a concern, but no way are the Eagles getting Brown and a 3rd for Lito. Brown >>> Lito.

I like some of the moves they made but the fact that they were moving back instead of up was a little unsettling. We had 11, then 12 picks. What are we going to do with all those guys? Just to have competition? Practice squad? Just seems like a waste and it would have been better to try and package and use them to move up into the first or second, guess we can still do that for the third and even fourth but is there talent there that will make a difference? Will they be swapping them for 2009 picks so we have ammo next year?... I guess so.
We'll see what tomorrow brings, hopefully Reid and the FO have some diamonds in the rough in mind and some tricks up their sleeve for all those picks and Lito.

I know what you guys are saying, but you do have to remember that most of those picks we had were very late. I think 6 of the 11 were 5th or later to begin with. Those picks won't get you anywhere except up a spot or two in the rounds they are in. In the first 3 rounds we only had our own 3 picks, right? There wasn't much they were going to be able to do with those lower picks in the first two rounds today. I think I looked at the trade chart and all of the Eagles 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks would only have moved them into the 4th round for one pick.That's my thing, too. along the lines of ARs press conference, they have to make moves tomorrow. They just don't have the roster spots for 12 draft picks, plain and simple. No idea what you're going to get for a bunch of 5-7 rd picks. But, throw in Lito and next years #1, and who knows?
And like JW says, maybe they just are willing to play that game of Chicken with those teams who are refusing to trade their unhappy WRs. Maybe Anquan causes enough problems in Az to force a trade just before or at the beginning of camp? Maybe Ocho Stinko does the same?
Anyway you slice it, i agree with just holding onto to Lito unless there is a legit offer on the table. I have no problem running Lito/Asante/Brown/Dawk against most squads they play this year.

I think the writing is on the wall fellas... The Eagles are looking forward to life after McNabb and I have no problem with it. I think the Eagles did very well for themselves yesterday. I really hope they can smooth things over with Lito. Its quite clear the NFL is moving to the spread offense and I think its going to be extremely necessary to have a top nickel corner on your roster to deal with 3 and 4 WR sets. Lets hope they can fill in some spots on day two and make a few moves to make sure they get the players they want.

Shows the base to anchor versus powerful bull rushers. Experienced, durable and reliable; enters 2007 season with a streak of 31 consecutive starts. High motor player with passion for the game. Has versatility because of experience as a long-snapper on PATs and FGs.
Weaknesses: Limited athletically. Lacks good quickness and struggles versus top speed rushers. Does not set quickly enough to prevent elite pass rushers from turning the corner. Size is adequate but not good. Is tough and has adequate overall strength, but he lacks explosive power to jar defenders with hand punch. Lacks ideal wingspan. Might be better suited to play guard in the NFL.

McGlynn played through the injury during the second half of the 2006 season. McGlynn has just decent size and he's not a great athlete, which is why his best fit in the NFL should be inside at guard where he's better protected. However, he is a durable, technically sound, tough and experienced prospect that loves playing the game of football. His versatility as a long-snapper also adds to his draft value. McGlynn may wind up becoming a good value in the middle of Day 2 as a reserve that could back up right tackle and both guard spots in the NFL.

As Jeff said though...what's the point of having 12 draft picks if you can't possibly make use of them? At this juncture it would be a guarantee that half our selections have no hope of making the roster. Just don't get it.

Yeah, and the trade value for those picks is rapidly decreasing. So an "active second day" (as we were claimed to have had) is getting more and more out of the question.Maybe the plan is to draft as much as possible, and choose which ones you want later? Considering the randomness in drafting this isn't so bad..? Trying to come up with something here.

Well we're nearing the end of the 4th round so, as you said, there is very little incremental value to packaging picks and moving up at this point. Looks like they're just going to take BPA on a bunch of guys and make it a really tough rookie camp; keeping the best special teamers. :X Really not at all how I envisioned this weekend turning out. I haven't been this disappointed in a draft in ages; which may just mean they knocked the cover off the ball.
