I have the patches through 1.5 downloaded, but don't have the game installed on my laptop. Not so sure how good it'll run. I may try to install it Sun/Mon, and see how it goes.

Until my power supply gets back, my main computer is just a pile of metal and plastic. Yeah, my power supply literally went up in smoke (even blew the circuit breaker for my office) last week. It's being fixed under warranty, but apparently it is inventory week   at their company, so things are taking longer than normal. I gave them a little speech about needing it back for work, important files I can't access until I get it back, etc, and they said they'd put a rush on it, but no notification that it's on it's way back yet.

Yeah, seriously. Why is it "Go Vikings 2008!" anyway? Are you a fan of a different team on other years?

Actually, I only root for the Vikings on even years, so wasn't gonna worry about the sig until next offseason. Odd years, I just chill and don't even watch football........ :goodposting: Nah, I'm just lazy with my sigs, they are always out of date when I use actual dates. I noticed it the other day, but still didn't bother to fix it.

I finally installed the patch, and I have a window tonight to play a few rounds. If others can get on I'll play some BF2. Otherwise I might play Batman on the PS3.

Ah, ok. Username threw me off. Welcome back.I recently collected my expert medic combat badge (100 hours as medic followed by 40 kills in a round). Working on Sniper now.

Is it me, or are 50% of the servers padding servers with stupid rules now? I tried joining 2 servers yesterday and got booted for actually trying to play the game.

Must be a sign the game is dying, which is sad.

yeah, its tough to find good servers. IO mode really hurt the game (i dont like it at all). The good news is the patch opened up all the other maps. Some servers are playing them and they're a nice change of pace. I've been playing on a pretty good server that runs mashtuur all day.

My laptop does a very poor job of playing BF2 and I am now waiting for my 2nd(!) replacement power supply. The RMA replacement I was sent had no 12V going to the hard drives, and had to go back.

I did install BF2 and the newest patches, but only played once. No chance sniping, too much lag. I could play a medic, about as poorly as always.

Please do not believe this man. He is clearly the IMPOSTOR Pork Johnson. I am the one and only REAL Pork Johnson and true **** Vermeil Fan.Here, let me prove it - Corp swears vehemently while playing BF2.

 Clearly clueless. Corp swears vehemently while playing anything.

HOLY ####

I WILL be taking off from work on release day, and likely the day after. This game looks absurd.

March can't come soon enough (even though i'm losing my job in April)

 March 2010 cannot come soon enough.
If PC version is 40+ players i may never leave my house.
32 would be just great with me - those tend to be my favorite maps anyway. Textures do look amazing on it. I might just run out and grab one of those new fangled AMD 5870's for this bad boy.

yeah, i was gonna ask....whats the go-to mid priced vid card right now? I'm still running the 8800GT from my original build. Gonna upgrade for this game. My other components should be good.

and if its only 32 players, i think the infantry combat may be watered down. (video mentions more focus on vehicles)

infantry combat has never been the focus of the series, but its essential for balance and teamwork.

The NVidia 260 GTX is a great value right now.

I've been looking into this situation for a few weeks now, and the Radeon ATI 4870 1GB seems like a much better value. I've reviewed some benchmarks and it is +/-3% performance compared to the GTX 260, and goes for under $30 cheaper. I have read more than a handful of reviews on Newegg and such that the GTX's have "gone up" in price, which effectively means it has stablized out (probably because they have such a large consumer-base). I do hear bad reports of driver issues with just about every Radeon card (it seems like all games these days were made to appease Nvidia), but those are software issues and obviously have nothing to do with hardware. I have seen the off-models go for $125, whereas the established brands sell ~$150 compared to a base $160 for GTX 260s.And O.O at that Bad Company video.

Wow!Side note, what's up with your job? Got another lined up?
not yet. Still kinda letting the whole "getting laid off" thing sink in (kinda tough when you're 25 and you're 5 months into a mortgage). If i want, I'm about 95% sure they would hire me to work at the Maryland office. However, if i move to Maryland, this job becomes my career, and i don't think i want that.I've got my resume almost updated and plan to have it out to a few places in the next few weeks. I'm gonna sit down this weekend and start expanding the job search to outside the insurance industry. Gotta see whats out there.

Dang - nice looking game. BTW, I really love my 4870 (Sapphire) 1GB card. Rarely ever skips a beat with things turned up high. Need to get BF2 installed and updated as soon as I get my power supply, which should be in tomorrow finally. PC Power and Cooling may make good power supplies with 5 year warranties, but if it ever does die, expect the PC to be down a while unless you have a spare PS.

Sorry to hear about the job TLEF, still transitioning myself (although I have a job) but I want out badly and am applying to anything I remotely seem to meet the qualifications for just to get back in the flow of interviews, etc.

i still have a job until at least April. I get severance (albeit not much, since i'll only get credit for 2 years) and a retention bonus if i stay till the end.

and BF wise, i read an article on planetbattlefield yesterday that said there will be customizable vehicles (more armor, more speed, smoke bombs, ect) that you can use to fit your play style. Obviously this is an answer to COD's elaborate perk system, except they're doing it in a way that actually makes sense and probably wont completely casualize the game experience.

After seing that vid yesterday, i really get the sense that DICE knows what they're doing on this. As long as the player limit isnt too small, i think BC2 is gonna be an absolute killer.

I may have to get it on both the 360 and PC so i can play with everyone i know. OF course, PC will be the main focus.

Wow. That's incredible! Looking forward to that an getting the old gang back together. I'm still running the 8800GT as well with a dual core processor. I think I'll do a full build in the coming months.

I'm back for this. I'm not getting enough credit for controling my outbursts though.

my only other concern is that due the buildings being fully destructible, we wont see any tall buildings or maps like Karkand with lots of buildings close together. If it were up to me, i'd rather keep it like BC1, where the buildings could be blown open, but would still remain standing to allow for some cover.

The map they showed in that video looks pretty good though, so i'll wait and see.

The key is going to be sticking to the territory control aspect that BF2 used. The gold rush mode in BC1 kept things too linear and didnt allow that sandbox experience.

And of course, squad implementation is crucial.

I have been playing a little BF2 at lunch hours here at my office lately, getting ready for BF:BC2 in early 2010. I have several guys in my neighborhood ready to roll on some servers, as well.

I have not played LOTRO at all in about 2-3 weeks due to changes in my time in my personal life and honestly feel a little happier for it, but still hanker to drop a Tango across the inlet in Wake.

Another Video

another pretty good video. A lot of the guys on the BF boards are complaining that it looks "COD'ish"

I'm not really sure what that means, because i didnt play COD. However, the maps looks pretty darn fun (lots of cover an elevation changes) and it looks like the game speed has ramped up a bit. (which was an issue for me sometimes in Bf2). I think the tactical possibilities are gonna be really great if the squad mechanics are at least as fleshed out as 2142. I'm pretty psyched for all the customization options.(as long as they arent stupid "perks" like COD and just legitimate load out options_)

Not CoD'ish at allSide note: Just purchased an XFX 4870 1GB and a 720W accompanying PSU to support all the PCI-E cables I will need.

If all goes smoothly with the rebates, I will be looking at $110 off for a $160 total.

i really just can not wait. I may buy it on multiple systems just to get in as much teamwork goodness as possible.

Very cool. Is it just me or is there no health indicator on that video? It's also going to take me a while to be able to identify the enemy. I apologize in advance for the friendly fire. :hicorp:

the more red/obscured the screen is, the closer you are to death. i dont believe there's gonna be an actual health "meter" per say.

Yes, there are definitely some nods to COD4 in that. The look is similar, but that is not a bad thing. It was a fantastic looking game. The MP was crap IMO because it was too run jump strafe - you know, Quake. No time for real tactics or squad work. I am anxious to see how it works out. I just wish we had BF1943 to chew on for now.

No I played the demo 30 minutes and it was fun, but wanted the mouse and keyboard.

Been hitting some BF2 late nights (really early mornings) to see if I can't regain any of the meager skill I once thought I had. Having fun, best times are when you get in a squad with a leader that knows whats going on and squad-mates who follow orders. Fun stuff. Been playing on the IMA infantry only server mostly.

:goodposting:I played about an hour of Wake last night, and it was the first time I can actually recall not spawncamping for an aircraft. Once I joined up a squad, I was spawning next to my commander who was playing it smart and staying out of sight behind hills right where all the action was. It was a lot more fun than waiting a couple minutes to grab a vehicle only to get bombed or ambushed by a renegade assaulter.*EDIT*Are we going to make this the unofficial Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising thread or are we just going to pretend there is no pink elephant in this room? I was a gigantic fan of the original, which IMO laid the foundation for Battlefield 1942 with the vehicular combat. It's supposed to have come out today or before this weekend, and I contend that any BF fan would enjoy the hell out of this game.

Put me in the skeptic column for Dragon Rising. There's a whole lot of very complex moving parts that have to work together in that one. Plus, its VERY, very realism based. Honestly, i think it might be a little too realistic to be a fun multi player game.

I put the odds of it being a buggy mess at release at at least 56%.

 I will keep rocking the BF2 and such until BF1943, BF3 and BF:BC2 come out. They are still tons of fun.

Reporting for duty.Just re-loaded BF2 and realized that my skills have not sharpened in the 1+ years since I have played. I still suck.
Ditto on this man. I loaded it up the other day and got smoked again and again. Bunch of cheaters if you ask me. Or my skills have degraded to the point I need retire. Nah, cheaters! Bastards!

Taraba Quarry seems to be a pretty popular vehicle map right now. Played it a few times lately and
