***OFFICIAL*** FBG All things BATTLEFIELD Thread (1 Viewer)

Just to give you guys a heads up, I've not seen any BF3 multiplayer gameplay at all. I think I mentioned it before, but I'm going to do my best to avoid all the gameplay videos and just have my face blown off when I get it on release.

EnterBf3 posted a tweet from Demize (Dice's balance "guru") stating that you will be able to kill a guy immediately after he is revived. This means no revive invulnerability, which was one of my biggest pet peaves from Bc2.

It also looks like you when you are revived, you will have less than 100% health and start out in prone position.

All good things IMO

I don't think I ever noticed you couldn't kill someone who had just been revived. I usually just kept shooting them both/all until they died. I guess they were just so disoriented that they couldn't tell where I was shooting from before they died.

If you move, you can be killed. But if you stay perfectly still, you can eat bullets for 2 or 3 seconds without taking damage. Pain in the ###.

Ah. I never knew this. I always get the hell out when I'm revived. Does mouse look count toward your move?

Same. I always get moving right away and have died enough to hate medics that do that. ;)

I think we need to start a new thread for Battlefield 3. I'm tired of this one fading back and losing track of it because it doesn't show up under the threads I've posted in.

Not to put you out there Mad Cow, but :lmao: . I think you've officially earned Official BF3 threadstarter status. I'm surprised I'm not even in the top 15 in this thread.

Here are some thoughts on the BF/COD communities.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL7vKGSZq6s&hd=1
I am starting to worry that we will see a lot of subtle features designed to appease the COD audience that Dice is trying to pull in.Either way, I'm sure it will be fun. Even if its "just" BC2 with the features they've announced (64 players, prone, jets, larger maps, lots more unlockables, ect) I'll still love it.As much as the Bf2 community has canonized BF2 over the years, it really had some SIGNIFICANT flaws. The gun play was very clunky and there were plenty of poor game mechanics and bugs that lingered way too long. The Bf2 maps were better than BC2 (comparatively speaking, since the games were released 6 years apart) but Bad company 2 had the advantage in most other areas. (class setup, customization, gun play, vehicle balance, ect)How many subscribers do you havE?

I've not seen any gameplay at all, so it's tough for me to say. Truthfully, it could use some gameplay tuning to make it control tighter and play a bit faster. Nobody likes running along and getting hung up on a twig sticking out of the ground, or dealing with the sluggishness from controller input => screen response.

The beauty of it for you is that you'll only have to deal with the PC players. When I fire it up on 360, there's going to be hordes of COD kids playing, which means about 87% more snipers and kids jumping off of buildings and trying to noscope me, or in other words, an even higher percentage of annoying players making me throw my controller through the TV screen.

I preordered this game from GameStop, probably the first one I've done that for in 2-3 years so that I can get Back to Karkand. I agree with you about the game possibly being dumbed down for the masses, and it's not just in terms of gameplay either. What made BC2 so great for me wasn't just the gameplay, it was other qualities that are less tangible and hard to describe. Like the music, or the look and feel of the menus, or the rough language your chars use ingame. There's a quality to it that makes me think Dice is adamant about giving people an authentic military experience, not just an arcade ADD twitchfest. Sometimes I complain about how it takes forever to load the disc and go from menu to gameplay, but I wonder if the slower pace doesn't also make me realize that this game isn't about instant gratification. It's definitely going to change, but hopefully it won't lose the low-key, laidback sort of niche "feel" it's had up to this point.
How many subscribers do you havE?
Fifty-four. By the way, I enjoy your gameplays and enjoy PC videos in general. Then again, I can't imagine the absolute behemoth of a machine a person would need to run BF3 at 60fps and FRAPS at the same time.

It looks like they've solved some of the "getting caught on a twig" stuff in Bf3. Some of the game play videos we've seen have shown players (spoiler in case you REALLY don't want to know ANYTHING about the MP game play)

hurdling objects while showing a first person animation of their legs
Not sure if its something that happens automatically or if you have to press a button to initiate.

The back to Karkand maps should be great. Looking forward to Sharqi more than Karkand, because it was a far superior map. Lots of servers running Karkand ended up running infantry only mode, which just turned into a grenade and rambo revive fest. The new Wake Island could be good as well, based on the concept art (added some urban areas)

I'll probably put a few more BC2 videos out soon. Just finished up with the M16 specact, and I've tried to move onto the F2000. I hate it though. It pretty much emphasizes every flaw in my game. Its terrible at long range and the clip runs out way too fast. Lots of recoil too. terrible gun. Not sure i'll be able to get the platinum star and stomach what it does to my K/D ratio. I think I'm gonna do some medic videos soon. Haven't played the class in a long time. I may just do some videos where i post an entire round no matter how well or poorly i do. so far, I've obviously just been posting good rounds.

I'm planning on a full PC rebuild for Bf3. I'll buy the video card like a week before the game releases (which should allow me some pretty decent performance). Definitely planning on doing some videos. I enjoy throwing them together and doing the editing.

Just my opinion, but I like having all the Battlefield stuff together in one thread. It is nice when someone wants to compare games, or jumps back into BF2 for a bit and posts about it. I've not had a problem with the thread not showing up when someone posts in it either though.

Ridiculous tracer dart work. I couldn't hit that many choppers in one round with that thing if my life depended up on it. just sucks that the pilots kept bailing out, costing you kills (I really wish they would make it so chopper/tank drivers needed to hold the exit button down for like 3-4 seconds in order to exit their vehicle)

Why did you keep using the 4X scope, especially once they started getting guys on the island? For me, it just seems to kick so much. Made you miss some shots from pretty close up that would have been easy kills with the red dot or iron sights. The fact that you didn't have a regular pistol to finish people off made it even tougher.

"I'm a beast!!! I'm a BEAST!!!!" :lmao:

I'm all for written details, I just don't want to see it with my own eyes until I sit down in my recliner with it. The tension is starting to build.

Does this thread show up for you when you click on "My Content?" I don't care whether we have one big all-inclusive thread or a BF3 thread exclusively, I just want it to show up in My Content.

Thanks bruh. Yeah, I think it's way too forgiving to vehicles on the tracer dart/targeting mechanism. It's so easy to bail when they know there's a rocket coming and they won't be able to sustain the damage. The other day I managed to tag a Lvl 50 Apache pilot with a tracer dart after so many tries, and he cleared it off with the Smoke vehicle package. I was ready to choke that kid through his tv screen. Ideally, the 4x scope on it shouldn't affect the recoil at all. The idea for me is to be able to spot players at long range so that my less ill-equipped teammates can clean them up. It's definitely my favorite attachment on any gun.

You are right, it does not show up there, but that is also the first time I've clicked that. I usually use the filter options at the bottom to find threads I've replied to, and just filter to Topics I've Replied to. If I have recently started a topic, I will check the Topics I've started. I could see how the My Content link is nice, because it combines them both into one search. Not sure why it is different though, that is weird.

EnterBf3 has a nice summary/ fact sheet of every feature, weapon, vehicle and attachment that we KNOW is in the game so far.

Obviously its an incomplete list, but its pretty good for this who haven't been watching every video or reading every article.

So we still have 4 months till this bad boy drops. :wall: Oh well, there are other games I need to finish. . .

So has anyone pre-ordered yet? I am really thinking Amazon for the LE and being done with it, but am curious about EA's Origin. I just wish Steam would get it, but I have the feeling if they get it, it will be weeks or months later. :sadbanana:

Nope. Waiting to see what origin offers.

Sorry about my lame chopper performance yesterday MC. Hadn't been in the gunner seat for a while and had trouble angling my shots to take out the enemy choppers on heavy metal.

Had an absurdly lucky round yesterday on atacama desert. My team was badly overmatched against several coordinated squads, so my score wasn't amazing (maybe like a 1.3 k/d ratio) but I must have burst fired 10 insanely lucky headshots from the uav side of the ship in the middle of the map. Considering how lame the f2000 is at long range, they were pretty sick. Wish I had recorded it.

I'm actually debating picking up a 2nd hd to just use for recording. Apparently that makes a big difference in fraps. But I think ill just wait for my big build in september.

Probably gonna go with a 120 gb ssd, a large regular hd for data and a 2nd one for recording. maybe ill just wipe my curent 750gb hd and use that for the recording.

Of course, I have no idea how I would go about setting up a multiple hd system.(Or transferring my operating system and games over to the ssd) Gonna need to do some research

Good times. At least we were on the winning team each game and usually had the top squad. :hifive: I decided to try and get my plat for the M416, and am just about 170 short, so will run infantry maps for a little bit. The one good thing about that gun is that it can be great for CQB as well as longer range due to bursting and the full-auto. For engineer, lately I have been running with the Uzi and 4X scope. Looks dumb, I am sure, but it is not too bad a combo.

I remember the 416 being pretty good, but that was like 20 guns ago for me, so I don't remember that much.

I'm only planning on getting like 5 more main gun platinums. After that, ill just find my favorites and just go for maximum fun/success until october.

F2000 is my last assault weapon. Already have all the engy weapons done and all the all kit-weapons except the shot guns.

So maybe 4 more medic guns and the one semi-auto sniper that is good (VSS) and ill call it a day. No desire to play with the other sniper rifles or the shot guns.

New Battlefield Blog

Some good stuff and some bad stuff.

A few quotes in there that really seem to indicate that the game will be very casual and non-team player friendly. (or at least, they're trying to make it seem so so that the non battlefield player doesn't feel intimidated)

- We thought a lot about Battlefield 2 and how Battlefield 3 would relate to it. The mindset at DICE during the development of Battlefield 2 was pretty much: “Play the game our way, or play something else”. Now, we have made a conscious effort to reverse that mentality. The goal with Battlefield 3 is to offer a vast variety of gameplay experiences and to be inviting to everyone. We’re not telling you how to play the game. You choose.

I sure as hell didn't feel that way when playing Bf2. Seems like it was open to many different play styles. Same with Bc2.

Does teamplay have to be squad based, or can it be in a more general sense of playing together? Am I less of a gamer if I don’t want to play in squads? If I want Team Deathmatch? If I want infantry only gameplay? That discussion really was an eye-opener and has changed how we view ourselves and what we set out to do with Battlefield 3.

Again, was Bf2 really that complicated? If you want, you can join a squad just for the spawn point and pretty much play by yourself. I did it all the time.

At DICE we have always been proud about our classic mainstay game modes Conquest and Rush. They embody much of what Battlefield stands for: vast scale and all-out vehicle warfare with an emphasis on teamplay. But focusing almost entirely on these modes have meant sacrificing the pick up and play instant action experience that a tight Team Deathmatch mode delivers.

translation: if you want to run around and play COD with destructible environments, this (team deathmatch) is where you should go.

on the plus side, we get our first look at the actual layout of a map.

On twitter, they said that, end to end, operation metro is as large strike at Karkand 64 players was. So that's decent size, even though its split into 4 parts.

The last stage could be an issue. Looks like the attackers will be coming out of a choke point from the subway and the defenders have some buildings and a pretty narrow area to defend.

Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to make my friend read this and tell him about how I was 10,000% right when I said they would cater to the masses, and not the hardcore uberPC players.I still have high hopes, and honestly, it could use some slightly faster pacing and better handling, but all I've heard so far is that the multiplayer is spectacular. I'm sure it'll please everyone.

TLEF (or anyone else running fraps),

What kind of framerate are you getting (not while recording, just having Fraps active)? Also what resolution and detail levels? I just got a new 42 inch LCD and while the game looks great, I'm disappointed in the framerate.

I believe I was running FRAPS at max settings and 5760X1200 and getting in the 50's? Maybe high 40's?

I'm running at close to max settings (a tweak guide recommended bumping a few down for better performance) at 1920X1080. When the action got heavy it was dropping into the high 40s but otherwise was in the 70s. I was worried it shouldn't drop below 60.

with max settings at 1920 x 1080 on my 27 inch lcd monitor, i get anywhere from 35-45 depending on the map and what is going on around me. FPS are higher on the jungle maps because there aren't any particle effects (no smoke or sand blowing around).

Other than my video card (ATI 5850) my system is 3 and a half years old

I'm sure i could get a few more FPS by tweaking some settings, but I'm kinda lazy. Also, the fact that the game doesn't support sound cards costs us a couple of FPS (processor is processing the sound as well)

Overall, its a very processor heavy game. Considering i'm running a Q6600 with no overclocking, i am usually happy with my system performance.

I just bought a 4 pack of Lead and Gold- basically Old West multiplayer shooter. I have 3 copies to gift to 3 of my FBG BF2 peeps. Who wants them?
