Just pulled the trigger on my entire new PC minus the video card. (I'll use my Radeon 5850 until right before Bf3 releases and then buy a card then).
After careful consideration, I decided to buy a new case (despite spending way too much money on my last one). Did it for a few reasons....
1) I didn't want to go through the hassle of ripping the whole thing apart to put the new hardware in
2) A few of the front USB ports are messed up
3) I would actually like to have an extra PC hanging around for a few special occasions (mainly streaming games live for the NCAA tournament, which i run 4 TV's in my living room for)
4) Older case is missing some features that make installation easier (mainly a cut out for behind the CPU to allow for easier heat-sink install)
Also held off on buying another copy of windows 7, as it appears that the clean install with an upgrade version trick (
) works well. And if not, I may be able to use my dad's vista disk to install vista and then install windows 7 upgrade over that. So I ordered the following.....
ASROCK p67 MB Got great reviews, has all the features i want and the price was right.
Intel Sandy Bridge 2500k processor (no surprise here)
2 WD caviar black 1 TB HD's
corsair enthusiast series 750watt PS (wanted to go modular, but this was a great deal)
zalman CPU cooler (install on my last one was tough, but the performance is awesome)
and putting everything in
this case
All up, I'm probably about $100 over what i wanted to spend (mostly because I bought the case) but I have about $40 in mail in rebates (which i've actually had success receiving in the past) and i still may hear back from them on the $36 on the SSD i bought the other day.
Now just need to wait until october to see how the video card market shakes out.
edit: they're giving me a $37 gift card for the difference on the shell shocker deal. 1 time exception. The guy originally said no, but went on hold for a minute (my guess to check with his supervisor and check my fairly extensive order history) and eventually caved.
So that should come in handy when i order my vid card.
