Drafted last night (Friday 8/26) @ 10PM...
I drafted out of the 12 Hole. Haven't drafted out of that spot in a while, used to prefer it, but took some getting used to, to get back into the groove.
1/2/3/1/1Flex(RB,WR,TE)/1/1.
NO PPR.
Performance scoring (yardage based, QB's get 6/-1)
I'm going to do a real in-depth breakdown of my draft, more or less because I'm still trying to figure out how much I like or hate this Team, and I just feel like talking it out. I consider myself a really strong drafter, but in this case, I played an early hunch, I wound up being quite wrong, and I spent a significant portion of the Draft playing from behind and working out of the resulting hole, which is not a position I'm used to being in...so it was intresting to me, at least, in that sense...
At 1.12/2.01, 9 RB, QB Rodgers and WR A.Johnson off the Board. Value was strong at WR, but given the fact that this was Non-PPR, and that QB's were getting 6/TDPass and generous yardage scoring, I didn't want to be on the wrong end of a QB run at 3.12/4.01...one way to try to increase the odds of that is by starting one, so after deciding on Calvin Johnson as the best remaining RB/WR, rather than doubling up with either Roddy White or Hakeem Nicks, which would have been the conventional play, I took QB Brady...
...not very easy in this format to observe the axiom 'know your League-mates and their draft tendencies', and it wound up working against me, but in a short season (Weeks 1-5), I felt it was a gamble worth taking as a lot of this is 'keeping up with the Jones'. Felt like things would work out as planned when Vick went at 2.02, but then watched with surprise as the only other QB taken between 2.02 and 3.12 was Philip Rivers at 3.01.
Part of the reason I chose this League is because my longest running, high $$$ League (22 years, $500 Entry) has very similar rules. Relatively savvy group, good competition, and playing for serious jingle. Well, that didn't really matter much, because this group made it's own decision about what to place value on, and no matter how 'right' you might think your decision is, it's all relative to what the rest of the group does, and my decision probably significantly decreased my odds of making it out of this Round, which is a real bummer.
At 3.12/4.01, best value remained at WR, IMO, and due to my miscalculation about a QB run in Round 2/3 pushing players down to me, I had to draft some BPA WR's I'm not personally high on, but had the best chance of the remaining players to give me some guaranteed production, with potential for upside. Picking at 3.12, my last hopes of landing an RB Tandem I could feel genuinely good about got crushed at 3.08 and 3.09, when Bradshaw and Blount went back-to-back. Hit the WR well for a double, going Bowe/Austin. Austin has the Week 5 bye, so at that point, I decided to go all-in on the position, and try to bang TE hard, and build the most efficient RB Committee for both RB spots that I could. I realized that was probably going to cost me at QB2, but at this point I was bailing water, but felt that if I really knuckled down, I might be able to salvage my draft in the middle rounds.
Have to step out, will add more later.
Team at this point:
QB Brady
WR CalJohnson, Bowe, Austin(*Week 5 bye)
