Glad Gojira is getting some love.  They've been around a long time.  Saw them open for Lamb of God probably ten years ago at Jannus Live in Orlando.  I don't think many people there knew who they were.  My buddy and I were the only guys really moving around when they came on.  Kind of awkward.

I was supposed to see them with Lamb of God and Dethklok, but that show got cancelled because LOG's singer was stuck in jail in Europe on those manslaughter charges he was later absolved of.

A lot of the shows from the good old days just kind of run together after a while. Like a heavy metal haze. 

 
Cool story from that show.  I think it was Gojira, MachineHead, Trivium, Lamb of God.  Anyway, before the show we're driving around the venue looking for a place to park and I see this dude with a ridiculously long pony tail riding his bike around next to us.  I'm like, "Damn, that looks just like Chris Adler."  Sure enough, it was him, and me and the 4 guys I'm riding with scream "CHRIS!!" out the windows at him like a couple of schoolgirls seeing Justin Timberlake. 

He shoots us a \m/ and we of course think we're pretty much the coolest guys of all time.  Come to find out later on one of their documentaries that he goes on a bike ride before every show to warm up his legs for the double bass.

Only guitarists will know this name. But back when we'd see a lot of shows at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, the ritual included dinner at Tommy's Joynt. So we're in SF to see Alan Holdsworth, and who's sitting in Tommy's drinking stouts but Alan and his band. I never ask for autographs, but he's my hero so I just said thanks for coming and that I was really psyched about the show.

 
Holdsworth really is a guitar players guitar player. I've seen everyone from Van Halen to Malmsteen list him as an inspiration.

I was into jazz fusion before I got into jazz. And I didn't know how much spontaneous improv happened during the solos. So when I saw Holdsworth for the first time, I was all set to hear him play my favorite solo from Metal Fatigue. He starts playing the solo, and of course it's completely different than the record. So I'm like, "Wait...you mean that brilliant, lyrical solo wasn't written?" I wanted to throw my guitar in the dumpster. 

 
So the Gojira show was no bull ####.  I was blown away for the first time in a long while.  It exceeded all expectations.   Really sucked that it was a Tueday night, because Wednesday was awful, but I'll never miss them again if they're anywhere near me.

Glad you went. I am dying to see them again.

They're doing exclusive backstage pass tickets this tour, but I can't find anyone that wants to pay the extra dough.

Weekday shows are awful. When I was a kid in the 80s, shows were almost always on weekends.
