***OFFICIAL*** FFA Heavy Music Thread - No banal, anodyne "Dad Rock" BS here.. (3 Viewers)

I saw a Testament open for Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage and they sounded great.
I have seen testament twice and they were fantastic both times... In Like 1992 or something during Judas Priests Painkiller tour Megadeth and Testament opened up....it was awesome...Souls of Black had just came out... This new album is very good too...concept album for them.

Just grabbed tickets to Superjoint and DevilDriver for 10/20.  $26.50 for GA, plus it's walking distance from my brother's apartment and across the street from one of my favorite bars in all of Orlando.  Couldn't have worked out better.

I DVR'd it and have already watched 4 times since I got home 2 1/2 hours ago. Including once with the entire 7.2 surround system maxed out (2 of the speakers are high end cabinet speakers too.)

Neighbors liked it so much they threw a brick through my window just so they could hear it better. (Can't remember where I first heard that)

I'm saving it for tomorrow night before we watch a movie in our home theater. Glad to hear the great reviews!

Avatar rocks. Phenomenal live, like most Swedish bands.

Got tickets today for Theory of a Deadman and Motionless in White/Miss May I/Amity Affliction at Bogarts in October.

Gonna see if I can swing GNR in Louisville on November 3rd. Left the Cincinnati show early last summer with a pregnant wife who was paranoid about all the mosquitos who were converging on the Paul Brown Stadium lights off the Ohio River on a muggy July evening...there was a Zika scare here last summer with couple local cases, so valid concern I suppose.

Reign in Blood is the greatest thrash metal album and best work out album of all time.  I'm not even a big thrash guy but Slayer is something special.

Nice. I was really hooked on Hail the Apocalypse for a while.

I know he is not for everyone, but Devin Townsend is so damn awesome.  This song is pretty metal (and the video is a hoot):

Great voice! I always thought he had some Dio potential, especially back with Strapping Young Lad

Slayer will be performing "Raining Blood" on the Tonight Show tonight.

If I could go back in time and tell my teenaged self that this would ever happen, I'd have laughed myself out of the room.
It is hard to imagine Johnny Carson running over to Slayer saying "That's how it's done!"

SYL is too much for me (I am not really a fan of thrash or speed metal, by and large, despite the Devin song I posted yesterday), but I will take Devin's voice over Dio's in a heartbeat.  Devin can and has done it all vocally.  And I saw him this past spring and his voice still sounds great live. Hard to believe it is holding up well when you consider how much he has abused it.

I'll add Frankenmuth michigan band greta van fleet...they sounds like a zeppelin clone...their tune is getting some national play
Just discovered these guys...HFS they really are a Zep clone. Kid sounds like the 2nd coming of Plant. And to me that's a great thing. Might be taking the trip up to Milwaukee to see them for 10 bucks a ticket.

That Slayer performance on Fallon was awesome!

In her younger years, my wife would listen to some metal like Priest, Maiden, etc. She was actually a big Man-o-War fan before I met her. As my tastes got heavier, hers didn't. She listens to Top 40 and classic rock now and likes 60's music (so do I).

While watching Slayer with me, during one part where the red lights were particularly going crazy, she said "this must be what hell is like" :lmao:

That reminds me of the time Penn and Teller were going to be on Letterman back when they were kinda in their peak. I told my wife that I wanted to see it but she mistook me for saying Pantera. When Penn and Teller come walking out, she said "THAT'S Pantera?"  :lmao:

LOL

Lead singer Tom Araya really has that evil warlock thing going & Kerry King's guitar look is worth the price of admission.

So Gojira was awesome last night in Berkeley, as usual.

The surprise was Oni. I had listened to some videos, but that didn't do them justice. Oni tore my face off last night.

over the weekend, a guy and his wife come into the tasting room. guessing mid-late 50s or so (i'm terrible at guessing ages). while i was packing up his order, we get to chatting about music and he says he's a big metal fan. so we go back and forth for a few minutes, his wife eyerolling the whole time, about who we're currently listening to, etc.

the guy sends me an email this morning - totally random - and says i need to check out  Helker - "No Chance To Be Reborn"

they're from Argentina, and the singer sounds like Dio. i mean, sounds a lot like Dio.

By the way, thank you to the enormous Cal football players that didn't knock me over at the Gojira show. They were enormous.
