whatif doesn't recognize the seperate OF positions. I'm going to move either Mickey or Tris over to a corner and don't think it'll be a problem. The extra range will make up for the occasional mis-play of a ball (if they even do...I don't think it'd take the Mick too long to "pick up" left-field) imho.

Ok....time for me to admit it. I've had trouble navigating the 'Whatif' site. I've signed on as a member but haven't paid any money yet. I cannot find the player pool/salary list and I'm beginning to fear that I have a learning disability and or was dropped as a baby. Can someone please help me? TIA.
sign up for a "free league" and go into the draft center. you can look guys up from there. Good point on the money earlier as well by someone. It favors certain things but those things might not help your team as much as others. I'm sure you pay more for a HR than a SB, but getting the SB's at the right spot might help your team a heck of a lot more. Kind of like basketball, you'd proboably pay a lot of money for 5 Bernard Kings...I doubt you'd win much.
no. Cappy has some kind of "hook up" where he can get around that w/ the guys that run the site. You get to use the guys 3rd best season salary wise (or any season w/ a salary lower than that I assume...something I'd do in some cases if it's an option) and there is no cap.

I think Spock has a good point with the LHP. One of the reasons I took Banks here instead of some other guys was because I needed a RH batter. There really aren't that many out there. In any case. I too think pitching is a little overrated in these things. One of the reasons this is going to be fun is to see how the sim deals with some of these lineups against great pitching. I think the guys that went 3 pitchers early are going to be a little shocked to see just how "average" their lineups are going to look in the end. I already gave the example of what the Yankees did to Lefty Grove and I think we'll see some similar things in the sim especially since some of the pitchers 3rd best seasons aren't totally dominating. I hope all the pitching heavy teams love coming into Tiger stadium for 81 games. I'm already tabbing it "The place great pitchers become average"

I suppose I should do a write-up of sorts..Master Melvin finished his 22 year career with 511 HRs, 1860 RBI, .414 OBP, and .533 SLG. At the ripe old age of 20, he had a 42/151/.328 season which created huge expectations (he was the youngest player in the league from 1926-1928). Ott never quite lived up to the ridiculous expectations and early hype, but certainly put up big numbers throughout his long career with the Giants. Not bad for a guy who was 5' 9".Notable career ranks:games played - 22hits - 36BB - 8R - 12HR - 18RBI - 10total bases - 17OPS - 25Nice bonus: he qualifies at 3B with 256 games played at the position.

Something to note about positions - on whatifsports a player only qualifies at his primary position for each season.Ott only has one season at 3B... but what a coincidence, it just happens to be his 3rd highest salaried season.
That's what it looked like to me...it does let you take 7 starters and use some of them for relief if you want, but I think you have to use 3 "true" relievers. Seems fair to me.edited to add 1 must be a starter, 6 can be whatever you want, and 3 must be a reliever...that's what it looks like to me. I assume most of us will use 5 or 6 starters (and use 1 or 2 of them primarily in relief) and then get more traditional relievers for atleast 3 proboably 4 or 5 spots in our bullpen.

A possible wrench in the positions... I believe whatifsports may designate a position for a player by year. So with Mel Ott for example, unless he has 3B as an option for a year that is third best or lesser, than those would not qualify.. correct?Just an example as there are plenty of players like that, with multiple positions. Thanks.
