***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the list. We might finish this next week...I would think pm'ing picks in will get easier as the positions you need to fill up become more clear.edited to add a couple rounds a day the next couple days (bout 15 rounds done)...then 2 a day every day next week and we'd be done (this is w/out any weekend picks).
good luck betting on this thing getting done next week. Over/under is Valentine's Day and I might take the over.

Thanks for the list.  We might finish this next week...
next week?
I think so...lets say we finish this round today. 2 a day tommorrow and Friday (bringing us through 14). 2 a day everyday next week and we'd be through 24...make it a "Furious Friday" and get through 3 instead of 2 and we'd be done unless my math is wrong.
considering we just went about 6 hours with no picks, I don't share your optimism.
I have a dream...
I had a nightmare. I woke up with your roster.

Coming from the guy who said Maddux had durability issues and Mickey ####### Mantle was a bad pick....

There's a better chance of me riding a dragon home from work today than there is of this thing wrapping up next week. ok, I sort of stole that one

Drafting for position here, don't want to loose this guy to the other couple people that don't have this position filled yet.

With the #4 pick in ound 10 the Curse Reversing Idiots select:

Maury Wills - SS

MVP 1962

Gold Glover

5 Time All Star

4 Times in top 10 MVP voting

#18 Career Stolen Bases

Will fill the 8 hole nicely, can also bat him up top so he provides some flexability. Solid all around player both in the field and at the dish.

he's the guy I had a hard time debating on when I took Aparicio. nice pick, solid player.

James absolutely ####s on his personal life.

OK so what's the story with pre 1900 pitchers? I'm scrounging for pitching here want to no who I can and can not have on my list.Is it leagal but discouraged to have them?I'm talking 1895+ here.

I think it depends how you use them...if you play them every day and they pitch 800 innings 'cuz they can, then its not ok...if you pick them and only start them every 4-5 days like all your other pitchers, it is no big deal at all...

My take is that the cut-off is 1893, when the pitching rubber was moved back to 60'-6".Others may have different opinions.

guys..1875..say it with me..1875.if you don't want to take somebody from back then, don't..I don't care..but it's allowed.I'm pretty sure the sim isn't going to allow you to throw a guy 27 games in a row. If you do, good luck trying to score 52 runs to beat your opponent.

Just to be clear - Never said Mantle was not a good pick. I think he was one of the top 5 players ever, during his prime and a top 10-15 player regardless. At worst.Second, it was Maddux's heart that I questioned, not his durability. I even said that my initial feelings seem to be wrong.

I also have no idea what your roster is, was just giving ya ####.

NICE. I didnt know when/if he would go for a while. THAT was the SS I targeted all along, until I couldnt pass on ARod. I figured let everyone else take the names.. wills has a coulpe GG's and speed to burn.

Well, not many players out there that fill my criteria for all time great.

Someone that had a HoF career and 10 all star appearances... but was dominating enough to win an MVP. A player that led in 9 offensive categories one year... and has a Home Run title, a Batting Title, and one of the most infamous moments in baseball history to his credit.

Someone that can sit in the 6 or 7 slot, hit for average AND power (to prevent too many intentional walks) to further solidify my lineup.

Oh, did I mention that in addition to the HoF, Batting Title, Home Run Title, Leading the League in fielding at his position (at least one year), this player was also the LAST NL Player to go for the Offensive Triple Crown? He did so hitting .374, at that.

Joe "Muscles" Medwick (aka Ducky). OF/RH

One of the forgotten premier stars of the senior circuit.

Stats upcoming to keep this moving.

general observation: speed on the basepaths has been consistently overvalued in this draft. This is based on my expectation that the hitting will overwhelm the pitching, making it foolhardy to risk outs on SBs.But i could be wrong. Maybe the maxim (good pitching beats good hitting) is true.

:goodposting: But Piazza was a dumb pick, right? Cause people will do nothing but steal?

For at least 1/15th of our games.... YES!

10.2 Saturnino Orestes Armas Minoso ArrietaBetter known as Minnie Minoso.
Now for a write-up:Minoso is the prototype for my team's philosophy. He gets on base (career OBP .389), has great plate discipline (814 career walks, 584 career Ks), racks up extra base hits (led the league in triples 3 times, doubles once), has great speed (led the league in SB three times) and good power. He also won 3 gold gloves despite the fact that they didn't start handing them out until he was 34 - could have had 4 or 5 more. Also has two interesting quirks - #1, he led the league in getting hit by pitches 10 times. Gotta love a guy who will take one for the team.#2, through his mastery of the publicity stunt, Minoso was a 5 decade player. Maybe I can use that incredible .125 average he put up at age 53 in the sim.

10.07 - Bill Terry - 1B

Terry's .401 batting average in 1930 makes him the last NL player to hit over .400. Hit over .350 three other seasons and averaged .341 (15th best All-Time) for his 14-season career. When he wanted to, he could pull the ball into the stands; in 1932, he slugged 28 homers. But more typically, he hit doubles and triples into the deep power alleys of the Polo Grounds.

Defensively, he was the best of his day. In the ten seasons he played regularly, he led NL first basemen in fielding average twice, double plays three times, putouts and assists five times each, and total chances per game nine times.

Joe "Muscles" Medwick OF/RH

Medwick starred first with the "Gas House Gang" Cardinals and then the Brooklyn Dodgers of the early 1940s, supplying power to the middle of their lineups. He won the National League's Most Valuable Player Award in 1937 when he took the triple crown with a .374 average, 31 homers and 154 RBI. He drove in and scored 100 runs in a season six times and posted a .324 career batting average in 17 seasons.

Medwick hit .379 with 11 hits, including a triple and a homer, in the '34 Series against Detroit.

.505 Career Slugging (110 pts above league avg)

Batting Avg - Six Time Top 3

Slugging - 7 times Top 5

100+ Runs Scored Six times

Total Bases and Extra Base hit Leader 3 Times

HoF Measures, since he seems to be too far forgotten by histrory:

Top 30 Gray Ink

Top 35 Black Ink

Top 40 Hall of Fame Monitor

A Great series, and a moment to remember:

In Game Seven of the Detroit series he tripled into deep center and slid hard into Tiger third baseman Marv Owen. Detroit fans responded the next inning with a 34-minute riot - pelting the field with rotten fruit and garbage, most of it aimed at Medwick in left field. Commissioner Landis removed Medwick from the game for his own safety, the game well in hand for the Cardinals.

Wondering when he would go. Not on my list with Mize.. one of many good 1B. A name that you do not hear much about anymore.

I count only one other team that needs a 1B, but I didn't want to wait any longer. I have had him at the top of my list of the last 3 rounds. In my starting lineup I have 5 hitters whose "third" season they are hitting 0.320 or better (0.320, 0.350, 0.357, 0.380, 0.401) with my team hitting 0.300 as a whole. My easy out is Cal Ripken, will probably hit him eighth......

:deep breath:

10.08 RHP Curt Schilling

Six-time All-Star. Eight times finishing in the top four of league WHIP. 22-nd all-time in W_L percentage. Has won 20 games three of the last four years.

Sprinkle in three 300-K seasons (plus a 293-K season), and Schilling ended up as the best righty left on my board.

First base is ridiculously deep ... the QBs of any MLB all-time draft. Nice going to wait on the position..
