Everybody'd approaching it differently -- but there is a point when it will become necessary to look past the accumulators to draft guys that were better for short stretches.And if UCONN is looking at sim dollar values, Valenzuela might be freaky good. Who can say?

Edited for accuracy. Schilling was solid in 92 and 93, fell off quite a bit for three seasons, and has steadily improved as an overall pitcher since 1997 (his first 300-K season).

He was solid, but not worthy of a pick here. 14-11 one year, 4.02 ERA the other. Solid, but not 10th round quality by any means.

I disagree, because we're past the point of looking at career accumulators, IMHO. I'm focusing guys with at least 4 or 5 solid seasons (solid to me, not to Bill James, Harrier, Spock, etc.).A lot of the older guys I could have drafted don't strike anybody out. Schilling has gone over 290 four times, and I'll get one of those seasons in the sim..

I think that is a great pick.. he just popped onto a couple of my draft boards. Obviously a horrible defensive player. However Ted Williams was no Clemente out there either.I think that is a love it or hate it pick.

The degree to which you suck is unmeasureable. For 3 rounds now, I've almost grabbed him or another OF who hasn't been picked yet. But I kept thinking "Yeah, Manny will definitely be available by round 10 or so", so I'd pass each time.Just as long as Cappy doesn't spoil my other guy, I'll let you slide.

Hi Nipsey -I dunno. I'd say Manny is pretty good. But shucks, I'm no expert. A lot of guys seem to think he's pretty bad in the field. As for Fingers, what were you thinking? MP

I will say this, if I drafted a player like Schmidt at 3B, and somehow he HAD to play 1B (which is not the case, just hypothetical), then I wouldnt see the purpose at all, as the entire spirit of the draft would be ruined. I really hope people reconsider the rules thread, but thats all I's saying. Good luck for now guys.

Funkley and I talked earlier about drafting for the vote and drafting for the sim, and you just can not draft for both. So I have only been on whatis.com a handful of times and drafted the team I would most want to see together. Henderson was my favorite player of all time (got him) while Ryan was my favorite pitcher (missed him). I have done a handful of vintage drafts so I have grown to be huge fans of Hamilton, Anson, Walsh (missing him hurt BAD), Joss, (not to mention guys whose names start with QUIZ) and others just by reading and learing about them.I hope I can present a good team for the vote and put a decent team in for the sim, and if not......I still had fun, and I will pull a DevilRayB on Capella for the 10 bucks.

That's how I feel, too. C'mon, the sim can't make Mel Ott be a 3B for just one season ... and then sim him as Ramirez-hands in the OF that same season when every other year he fields well..
