***OFFICIAL - FORD MACH E THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

After selling the wife's Jeep due to a crazy offer from Vroom we started looking at ordering an electric vehicle to replace it. We decided we didn't fully trust Jeep engineering to buy the 4xe. We wound up test driving a Tesla Model Y and a Mach E.

I was initially against the Mach E due to the miss-applied "Mustang" moniker. However, after driving it we were blown away.  Ordered one today for probably mid-December delivery.

Anyone here have one of these yet?

It sucks that you have to wait 5 months until you can get it, I would have thought you could get one quicker than that.

I hope to get the lightning next year and will have more questions for you once you receive your vehicle, but I have a few questions now.

How do you negotiate on a preorder that has lots of demand? Did you have to pay msrp, over msrp?

What sort of charging package are you looking at, do you have to wire special outlets into your garage? If so will you have the electrician come before or after the vehicle arrives.

Lots of charging/battery issues with them, no?
Not with the cars, with the networks. They just don't have the infrastructure in place that Tesla has. But it appears to be improving at a breakneck pace.  I'm not too worried. We bought this as a mostly local car.  But I expect by the time we get it the network will be fine.

What did you like on the Mach E better than the Y?
Most importantly, the wife liked it better.

The Y is awesome but it is more gadgety I suppose? The Mach E feels more like a normal car just with an awesome drive train.  The seats are better and it's more comfortable. The build quality is way better at least from paint, body panels, and feeling solid. The controls are much more intuitive. It can run Android Auto or the Apple version. And it comes with self parking without an additional 10k option.  And their full self drive is expected to be far less pricey than Teslas.

I also have a Lightning reserved.  And a Cybertruck. Probably leaning more towards the Lightning now and especially because  of their grid support.

There is no negotiation. The goal is to get at MSRP or a small discount. I joined Mustang.org for $35 to get X plan pricing which is just below MSRP ultimately. I'm normally much more of a bargain hunter but keep in mind this car still qualifies for a $7500 Federal Tax rebate.

The charging package comes with the Mach E. It will support 240 or 120.  But the 120 takes horrendously long.  I plan to just add the breakers and mount the 240 outlet for it on the wall. I'm very lucky in that it is a super easy job in my garage. All surface mount on cinder black.

We got the car yesterday.  Pretty stoked.  We got the Premium with AWD and the extended battery so it drives even better than the version we rented. All the options are a little mind boggling and are going to take a few days to learn.  I did decide to keep the factory charger in the car for travel/backup purposes and bought and installed a level 2 in the garage.  240 VAC 48 amp, but I put in a plug so only 40 amp for now.

One cool feature I discovered...you can set up a schedule for the car to turn on and heat or cool the cabin to the temp you want while it is still plugged in from charging so it doesn't waste battery power on the initial temp adjustment. Pretty slick.

I still dislike the Mustang moniker. And I think Ford missed a real opportunity to call it the Model E.

I also got to go for a ride with a Ford factory driver in the Lightning a few weeks back.  I'm even more sold on it now.  It has all the acceleration you expect from an EV, but the handling for a 6,000 pound vehicle is just insane.  All that weight down low + AWD makes it super sticky. But orders for the Lightning are delayed until maybe December.

When I first saw one of these I instantly recognized the Mustang roots and was taken back. W T F Did they do to the Mustang?????

Since my initial shock I have warmed up to the look. I mean if you’re gonna have an electric car, might as well have a cool looking one.

Gratz on the purchase and more importantly, being happy with the purchase!
