Because Sean Payton has had a lot of success after his SB win?
So we should have hired a guy who has done less since winning a SB...as if you all would not be complaining about him now?
BTW...McCarthy often tests teams deep...he didn't against Seattle...probably because of that cover 3 shell they play. They play it to take away big plays...keep it all in front of them and rely on their near perfect tackling.
Also, you want to take a guy who has yet to even been a top coordinator in an NFL game and hire him as HC?
Hoping he lives up to that family legacy?
It has nothing to do with the name but who he has learned from and be ready to put new things into the game plan.
So if the played a cover 3 shell where was the slant game or some screen passes that would allow the team to flow down the field by making these high percentage plays. It shows that McCarthy cannot adjust from his game plan that he comes into game with. Most of the league has a clue what Mike does inside the 5 and in key situations.
Peyton has done very well, it is a shame he had to sit out one year. He has shown that he can adjust to his talent around him and put them into spots to make plays. He his ability to use more than one back and keep a balanced attack is something Mike has yet to show.
Most of the league has a clue...yet the Packers still average in the top part of the league every year in scoring right? Even in a year with Rodgers hurt last year.
Payton has done about as well as McCarthy. Both won a SB...both have come up short since then...one missed a year due to scandal.
If you want to complain about McCarthy since the SB...my guess is you would complain about Payton too.
BTW...McCarthy used more than one back quite often last year...and will continue to do so this year with Lacy and Starks.
Do your self a favor and watch some games from the last 3 years and you will see that McCarthy uses a majority of the same plays inside the 10 yard line. He is not creative or make the defense think. They have been successful putting up points because of the offensive talent on the field. If McCarty was better coach the team would not allow Rodgers to get sacked m ore by using shorter routs, screen passes and play action.
Take a look back at last years first Bears game and you will see how McCarthy cost the Packers a win. When Rodgers when out Packers still ran the ball well. Problem was McCarthy never used it to his advantage. He kept calling run plays until the team got into 3rd down plays that they needed to pass. Good coaching would have used the established running game to their advantage and called some early down play action or even straight drop back passes. Bears stacked the box and McCarthy kept running into the box playing scared and not to loose, which in the end cost them the game. Packers had everything they needed to win the game with a backup QB and poor coaching and play calling by McCarthy let it slip away.
More than likely tomorrow the team will come out and play lights out in the home opener against a inferior Jets team that lacks a good past defense at the present time. Watch what happens inside the 10 yard line tomorrow for plays. I can call some the most common plays McCarthy will run.
He will go 5 wide at least 3 times inside the 10 yard line. We will see Kuhn run 2 times inside the 5 yard line. There will 2 draw plays run inside the 5 yard line.
Likely what you wont see. Play action pass, play action roll out, or a roll out pass play. These plays would put pressure on the defense to make quick choices on how they are going to defend. I could be wrong but McCarty's past does not use these plays inside the 10 yard line.
