***OFFICIAL*** Guitar Guys Thread -- all axes, all the time (1 Viewer)

Had my first gig yesterday. It went well, I didn't even mess up, so I'm assuming ill be signed to a record deal shortly.

So thanks friends for the inspiration, I probably won't be around much once things take off.

PS, it was my sisters wedding.
:headbang:

That's AWESOME! What did you play? Pics?

I don't actually know very many songs (especially wedding sounding ones), so I just picked some chords and improvised. My sister asked me at the last minute when the guy who was supposed to play music flaked out.

I was the officiant, so I just played while the wedding party was walking down. It was actually really fun and worked out well I think.

Very cool. My son penned and recorded a few originals while at school, a couple of which I find to be very listenable- even though he definitely wants to revisit them. But I'm trying to convince him that when he just sits around "noodling" and fleshing out ideas, I find it to be the most awesome background music.

By the way, www.reverb.com is cool site for buying and selling gear. Mostly, but not exclusively, vintage, high-end, or unique gear. Really fun to browse.

I think I'll take that as a compliment. I'm the dorkiest dude around. I'm wearing the suit because I performed the ceremony (non-religious).

Hey, to me, hipster refers to someone smart. So I meant it as a compliment

I know this is a Guitar Guys thread, but I thought I'd post a photo of the latest addition to my stash. (Seriously, how many people are going to participate in an ***OFFICIAL*** Singer Guys Thread?) This thing is way more live than I'm used to. It picks up everything, which brings a lot more character, nuance and dynamics into the vocal track. I've had to dial back the plosives some, but the adjustment already felt pretty natural after about 10-15 minutes. And I love the look. As soon as this guy is ready to take orders again, I'm going to have him mod it with some lighting.

That's a beauty. My boss and I used a very similar mic as inspiration for this logo a few years ago.

HNGD!New couch guitar. Wanted somthing comfy to play while just hanging out and maybe to take camping, etc. Giving my 3/4 acoustic to my daughter who loves it.What it is, and what did it cost? She's pretty.http://i41.tinypic.com/15n98v9.jpghttp://i44.tinypic.com/15cznmg.jpgStill letting it aclimate to the AC. Haven't even tuned her up yet. The action is nice and low without any buzz.Fret ends are sharp. Going to need to take care of that. That's the only downside right now. Will have to see how the tuners hold.
Takamine? It's blanked out...?

Kona.

If you can feel the ends of the frets on the neck, it's often the first sign that the room or case is too dry. The wood shrinks a fraction but the metal doesn't. Before "taking care of that", you may want to see if the problem corrects itself.

Congrats Chet. If I could have sold off two guitars more quickly to justify the 7k splurge, I might have beat you to the punch on that. Has to be an awesome, awesome guitar, exactly the kind of thing I'm looking to add. Give us an update when you have a chance to play it -- there's another brazilian SCGC short scale up for sale in the forum there, and I'm really tempted... (the seller even offered that I could pay him half now and the rest when I sell another guitar....)

Play it well and in good health

HNGD

Kind of. It's sitting in my office waiting for me while I am away for the weekend. By far the nicest guitar I haven ever owned.

Whoa.

You should send out a birth announcement and have a cigar. Grats!

Ty Ty

The guitar fits my eye perfectly and from a build standpoint includes world class woods. I spoke to the seller at length and am convinced this a fantastic sounding instrument.

It's also the 11th OO ever built by SCGC which is pretty cool.

As I said above, more than I've ever spent on a guitar. I will never be a good enough player to justify the purchase but I will sure have fun trying.

The other brazillian on there just sold. ####

Eh, maybe for the best.
Maybe next time you will shoot the lock off your wallet.

What do think that one went for?
Was speaking to that guy via PM, I think he went as low as $6500, so I bet between 6 and 7. I like the appointments on yours better, but they're both stunning.
The rosette on the other one didn't appeal to me. I also would have added a pick guard.

I like the light binding on yours (maple?) better.

My flight to Chicago got cancelled but fortunately we were able to get on an earlier one.

If I have time, I am going to pick up the guitar from my office this evening. I hope I can find the key--sometimes my assistant hides it. Lol

I know I'm an advocate of playing acoustic guitars before you buy them, but this looks like a great deal for those of you looking for a quality entry-level guitar. These usually go for $650 but Sweetwater has four for $399. Pictures of all four at the link below so you can compare the wood grain. Free shipping.

Beautiful. Wish I hadn't just spent near that same amount for a new washing machine. Twelve months at the laundromat and nothing to write Penthouse Forums about. I'm starting to realize how low quality my starter accoustic is. Taking it my setup guy this weekend to see if its worth adjusting or just upgrading.

Sweetwater is awesome, and they have fantastic customer service. It's not always possible, but I try do all my on-line gear shopping there.

Holy crap. Move over modeling amps. Hell, move over tube amps. Here comes the Kemper Profiling Amp. I just got turned on to this amp and the YouTube videos are jaw-dropping. The guitarist in my band is unloading a bunch of his rigs (some of which are boutique), but will be profiling them all with the Kemper first. And you don't even need access to the amps themselves, as apparently there are marketplaces for Kemper profiles. And there's a guy who scours the landscape for all sorts of rare amps to profile them, and then sells the profiles for a few dollars. I tend to be a bit of a purist, but what I've heard is downright amazing. Now this amp isn't cheap at $1975 (and $2,640 for the powered version), but imagine having a Fender Twin, a Marshall JCM800, an Orange Thunderverb, a VOX AC30, a Mesa Dual Rectifier, a Blackstar Artisan, a Bogner, a Two Rock, a Dr. Z and a Matchless, all in one amplifier. I haven't heard it in person yet, but this seems to be a huge leap forward in technology.

Was asked to play for a friend's wedding ceremony in a French Chateau last week. Since I had my guitar anyway, I decided to play an open-mic in Paris. Played two originals and closed out by getting everyone in the room singing along the doo-doo-doo parts of the Stone's "Hang Fire." Fun times.

What's the output of the Kemper? In other words, does it play through a speaker?

Not entirely sure to be honest. I think you can jack directly into a powered PA system. You can also pair it with a power amp (or buy the powered version) and hook it up to a cabinet.

Not sure this this the right thread, just looking for some advice. I am the executor of an estate and I have a brand new 2013 Martin D-35 to sell. I live in Sarasota, FL. Hoping to get around 1800.00 for it, How long would it take to sell an instrument of this price on Craiglist? I could wait a couple of months but not six. Rather not do ebay for something this expensive. Thanks.

I'm tempted to make you an offer on it to save you the trouble...

Otherwise, if you can't sell it here, I've bought and sold a number of guitars on the classified forum at acousticguitarforum.com without incident, and I think that's a good place to look (you have to pay a small fee to become a forum backer before you can post in the classifieds); there's a Martin forum as well where I'm sure you could sell it. The good thing about these is you have a national audience, you'll have people buying based on pictures and description without showing up at your house to pester you. I've had some really easy and smooth transactions via AGF.

Do you have pictures? If so, link to them here, curious to see it.

Thanks for the advice. I will take some pictures and put them up on my photobucket account. It is brand new 2013(maybe a 2012 bought in April) All tags attached and never played.

This guy teaches Autumn Leaves and plays it like I'd love to be able to play it.

He seriously could be my "regular Joe guitar hero." If I could ever play like him, I'd be set for life. Tempted to sell my soul if it would get me there...

He posts at Acousticguitarforum, and at one point was doing skype lessons, I reached out to him and he's not doing them anymore. :sadbanana:

That said, a more famous jazz acoustic guitarist, Eric Skye, just announced on his FB page that he's teaching private lessons via skype.

Been following him for a while now. He's been touted as one of the best up and coming acoustic jazz guitarists -- his recent album is a solo acoustic guitar arrangement of Kind of Blue, and it's pretty great. But I love some of his little Youtube clips.

Very tempted to start taking lessons from him. So hard to carve regular time out in my schedule for lessons, and I'm reluctant to commit to it before I know I can dedicate the time, but I'm seriously considering.

Music is important. I want to make more time for it.

GAS is a serious illness. I love Les Paul Juniors. I have two Epiphone Jrs that I modded pretty heavily. Gave 1 to my daughter.

Put a reasonable offer on a Gibson Les Paul Junior and got it. :oldunsure:

Junior

This will be my last guitar purchase for quite a while. Whatever.
Ah how many times I've said that....

I just yesterday had delivered my latest addition, this short scale Santa Cruz 00, with Cocobolo back and sides and German Spruce top. It's stunning and plays like butter. I'm shopping my Collings and selling it soon to help pay for this purchase (the Collings was actually sold, but before I could ship it out, and after I made the deal on the SC, the buyer asked to back out).

I haven't in the past month or two been playing nearly as much as I was previously, but I did pick this one up this morning and doodle for 15 minutes. It was something. Hoping to make some more time soon.

Rock on everyone.

Here is a brand new, never played 2013 Martin D-35 for sale. Includes lifetime warranty from Martin. Looking for 1825 shipped. Also going to put it up on the Acoustic Guitar forums.

12" Jensen MOD speaker. I have about $12 of wood in it. The finish will get sanded and evened out, but I wanted to fit the "grill". The grill is a 14" pizza pan mounted on rubber stopper with rubber washers. :lmao:
Sweet! Shoot some vid so we can hear how it sounds.

Most of you guys probably already are past this, though it might be fun for you, but the new version of Rocksmith is a gigantic improvement. If nothing else, you can get pretty much unlimited pedals/cabinet/pre-amp combos to play around with for $60.
