***OFFICIAL*** Guys Jeans Thread (2 Viewers)

Didn't realize that. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the tip!

I can't say that I care if a guy is wearing $20 or $200 jeans, but AG and Paper Denim are just very nice...good fit, great look. Warning to Otis: you start wearing these and you'll never go back.

[This is where I'd admit that those are the two brands I wear, too, but I'm afraid of scaring off people from buying them thinking that they're therefore "girls' jeans". So I won't mention it.]
See that guys?Now...its not that I don't spend money on clothing. Some I do. Suits and dressier pants and shirts I am more apt to put out a little more cash for. Even there...alot of times its not because of what people think is cool, its just more the style and fit of those seem to be better when you spend a bit more...and its a huge noticeable difference.

Just not jeans...I see no point in it.
I wear my jeans more than anything else in my wardrobe (outside of work). If there is anything that's a bang-for-my-buck purchase, it's jeans.
You see...I might wear them on Fridays and weekends when its a little colder. Even on casual fridays I might wear a pair of khakis rather than Jeans as they are even more comfortable to me.More of a shorts guy all year round though unless its just unbearably cold.
i dont wear shorts. except on vacation.they just dont make enough khakis that have pockets like jeans so my stuff always falls out of my pockets.
:moneybag:
i said my stuff. not my junk.

i wouldnt wear those. That washed out look just screams metro to me. Chicks dig this look?
 I was in one of the Diesel stores in Portland, OR when I was on business travel there. One of the girls working there was :D and she was helping me with jeans, shirts etc.. When I bought the jeans she told me there was nothing sexier than a guy in Diesels. Immediately I was like :excited: We started to flirt a little with each other. After she found out I lived in DC she gave me her number and told me next time I am in town to give her a call and we could hit some clubs together. :lmao:

fair enough. we all pay for sex somehow. At least when you buy jeans you are killing two birds with one stone

It really comes down to personal style and comfort levels with jeans. If you are not comfortable with the fit and wash of the premium jeans then I wouldn't buy them. If you do like them then you don't need 10 pair. Just buy one pair of the $200 jeans and wear them when you are going out, have a date or where ever. One note though if anyone decides to buy the expensive jeans. When you wash them, turn them inside out and wash them in cold water only. And whatever you do, do not put them in the dryer. Hang them up and let them dry naturally.

I have to be the least fashion savy person ever. I really just dont get it. I like dressing nice. When im going out somewhere, i like wearing clothes that i think girls will like (and get friendly female opinions to make sure) but i would never spend $100+ on jeans or 48 freaking dollars on a printed T-shirt. God speed Otis, i just dont see the need for it.

Disclaimers:

-All of my girl picking up has taken place in new jersey and scranton, PA(not NYC or any other major city)

- Im 23 years old and single (have had what most would call average success with women)

- Im not fat, nor ugly

- My verbal game is pretty much hit or miss

- Im curretly wearing, and am most confortable in, a ~$60 pair of Tommy Hilfiger carpentar jeans that i bought around 3 years ago. When i go out, i do tend to wears pants that are a little more form fitting. (im in good, but not great shape)
I don't have much problem with the above. As I've noted, I generally spend about the same ($60) on jeans. However, I will say this -- if you are wearking "form-fitting" jeans, you are doing something wrong. I don't get the guys who are in shape and think that girls want to see their package through their jeans. The cool dudes out here (see, e.g., Hollywood, Brad Pitt, etc.) who are in really good shape still wear baggy jeans (maybe a fitting t-shirt) -- it's just a much cooler style. That said, TLEF, I'm sure you do just fine, and maube I'm reading too much into form-fitting. But every jeans commercial I see has a good looking, fit dude wearing somewhat baggy jeans. It's just a pretty great look these days.

:potkettle:
by form fitting, i meant slightly less baggy than carpentars(see my above edit) Im not talking about this
:topcat: Ok, point taken.
You don't have to buy the extra tight form fitting jeans. Those are definitely gay. Usually the premium jeans have different fits. Slim-Fit ( ), Regular Fit (what TLEF was referencing) and Comfort-Fit (the baggy kind). Expensive Jeans are not all form-fitting.
JERRY: hey, uh.. what'd you get there?KRAMER: Uh, yeah, I bought Dungarees.

ELAINE: Kramer, they're painted on!

KRAMER: Well, they're slim-fit.

JERRY: Slim-fit?

KRAMER: (Talking fast) Yeah, they're streamlined.
 ;) FWIW here are the last pair of Diesels I picked up a couple of weeks ago: Diesel
Those are nice, but holy lord expensive. These are pretty nice too, though I'm not so sure about the pocket thingy going on in the back.

One note though if anyone decides to buy the expensive jeans. When you wash them, turn them inside out and wash them in cold water only. And whatever you do, do not put them in the dryer. Hang them up and let them dry naturally.
Christ that sounds like a lot of work. Otis sends his laundry out and has it delivered. No way I could take the time/energy to wash them on my own and hang them to dry. Will they be ruined if I don't?

Interesting...I prefer the pockets in my shorts over my jeans. Though, I don't carry much...wallet, phone, keys. None of them are all that big.But my shorts have a little kind of divider in the one pocket...perfect for keeping my phone in place without it jostling around too much.Nautica Cargo shorts...$20 or so when you find em at the right time.

ruined? no. If you dry your jeans they aren't going to fall apart or anything but they will shrink and fade.

Thanks Doc, I needed a belly laugh this morning...
:goodposting: It took 170 posts to acknowledge that genius. :bag:
Actually I stopped reading this thread after I read your post. It was the alpha and omega as far as thread summation is concerned.
I'm touched. And not like the rest of the guys posting in this thread either.

Wearing some Ben Sherman jeans right now.

Faded, boot cut. They fit right, look good and were worth the $90 I spent on them. Too bad I tore a small hole in them at brunch in Philly right before I moved out here... I got them sewn up but don't have enough $$ to replace them with another premium quality pair. FWIW, I can find OK jeans (style-wise) here in Europe for relatively cheap.

I tried on a bunch of 7 jeans a while back (when I had some $$), but my ### and thighs were just too big for them. When I found ones that fit these parts, the waist wasn't right.

:confused:how often do you wash jeans between wearings?
Sometimes a couple weeks as long as they don't get to dirty which can be challenging with three small children spilling and drooling all over the place(plus I'm usually a human napkin when they don't have one readily available).I wear Old Navy Jeans by the way, baggy fit about $20 a pair. They usually last 2-3 years before I blow out the crotch.

The next good jeans I find, I'm buying like 4 pairs, because right now I have one favorite pair of jeans that I wear al weekend, every weekend. I have 3 or so other decent pairs, but I never wear them.
Ditto. I have a pair of Lucky jeans that I pretty much treat that way. But I'm married with kids so dropping $200 on jeans ain't happening.Need to check out Mavi's.

I have a pair of Guess jeans that have held up pretty well over the past 3 years. They are a good wash and color, but aren't quite right in terms of straight leg / boot cut that I like to sport. Too narrow at the cuff... They are low-rise so when I'm in better shape they look great up top.

I have never met someone who's worn a pair of designer jeans that says they're anything but 1000 times better than Old Navy ####.
Better How? I can see quality being better as far as how long they last/stay nice etc. but as far as comfort goes I doubt there is a huge difference

1980s vintage 501s down?

Seriously- I have at least three pair of faded out beat up old Levi's from the early 1980s in my closet. Haven't worn them in years but scarily can still fit into them. One pair still has grey primer on them from when I was restoring my old Fairlane that was last on the road in 1986.

Good info in this thread.

Where I live(Scottsdale) the trendy jeans are played out....True Religion, Seven, Ed Hardy etc. etc. I only see wannabe 30K millionaires wearing these.

I try to buy jeans that aren't brand obvious and that aren't played out, but are still a style that I like and fit my age(32). I find these mostly at boutiques or when I travel abroad.

By the way, some of the jeans posted in this thread break several parts of one of the Fundamental Guy Rules On Jeans:

Any jeans with really fancy looking pockets or decorations on them = gay.

like these?
These look pretty cool.

But holy #### they're expensive. And look a lot like my $60 RLs.
who needs buttons on jean pockets?
Precisely like those. For the record, I liked them from the front. That's the kind of style I shoot for in jeans. When I saw the back, I immediately reversed course. No way I would buy those.

You doubt incorrectly. Don't knock what you don't know. They fit better, look better, feel better - you're pretty much saying "How is a Ferrari better than a Yugo? I can see quality being better as far as how long it lasts, stays nice, but as far as getting you from point A to point B I doubt there is a huge difference."
Jeans are like sweat pants IMO, they're all equally comfortable. Maybe I'm just not picky when it comes to comfort

Question: What do your $200 jeans have on my $60 perfectly fitting and cool as #### Ralph Lauren jeans from Macy's?
The fit, the cut and the wash. Ralph Lauren Jeans are good for the 45 plus crowd. Drop the duckets man, you've got the cash. Go out tomorrow have some hottie fix you up and you'll be on board...guaranteed. I've read enough of your posts to know.
:excited: Finless knows stuff.Ok- disclaimer again: my wife is a NYC fashion designer, who has been doing denim for the last 5 years or so. Head women's designer for Jill Stuart Jeans and American Eagle. She's knows her ####, and has worked on high fashion and low (AE). I was rolling in jeans when she was doing the JS and AE lines- part of their job is to shop for new product and essentially copy it- so I had all kinds of jeans from AE and the Gap to Helmut Lang and Earnest Sewn. It's about the fit, wash and material. Period.Material: The expensive brands use expensive denim- often from Japan. They use a process that makes it better somehow than domestic denim- can't remember exactly how, but it's softer and stronger, like having more thread count- IIRC it has to do with the looms they use.Wash: My wife was always hitting her head against the wall at AE because the management would love the expensive product she'd buy (to copy) but then refuse to pay the money on the wash, let alone the material.Fit: Dunno what to say here- the smaller, ie: more expensive designers devote a lot more time to making sure the fit is "current". The larger companies just crank out what they've used for years and sells, regardless of whether it's presently stylish or even fits that well. Fit is the area that most guys will argue about, especially in a place like this. If you don't care about having a "current", "stylish" or "fashionable" look- don't waste your money on the expensive jeans. Hell- I can't fit in most of them anyways- and I'm not even that fat (33-34 waist). Most of what's been "stylish" for the last bunch of years is fit for guys with really skinny legs and waists- usually Euros, heroin rockers or gay guys. I've been wearing Replay jeans, Earnest Sewn, Helmet Lang, Gap (1969 line which used Japanese denim), RRL and American Eagle. They all fit and they were all free. And yes- the difference between the expensive and cheap ones are easily noticeable.Dumbfounded a thread about Jeans would be 4 pages.edit to change it to 5 pages...

Oh, we're just getting warmed up.Seriously, I can't think of a more important/staple part of a guy's wardrobe than a good pair of jeans, particularly for single guys. If importance mattered, this thread should easily eclipse the length of just about any FFA thread there is. It's that important.

:( It's always funny the reverse snobbery that comes up around a thread like this too- "you'd pay how much on a pair of jeans? These cheapo jeans work just fine". Ok, then.

I have one pair of Ralph Lauren jeans that have lasted 8yrs and are more in style now than they were. As for other jeans I always get silvertab:shrug:. Get plenty of compliments on them
