Now that Larry Johnson is off the team, and the Cheifs brass has shown some confidence in Charles, i think this guy is going to do quite well for the rest of the year, and possibly beyond.

Charles is guaranteed to be a 3rd down back, which is ideal in a Todd Haley offense; but the Cheifs also used him in goal line situations last week: including on 4th and 1 (which resulted in a 44 yard TD) and on their sole red zone possession.

His size, and running style is very similar to Chris Johnson imo. Although Johnson has a significantly better O-line.

He's got a tough matchup this week against the Steelers, but he's got some better matchups coming up including San Diego, Buffalo, and Cleveland. If he's on your wire, i'd pick him up immediately.

If he's on your wire after rushing for 100 yards and a TD, I suggest finding a new league.

Although chances are alot of that success was because he was playing the Raiders. He does have some good matchups down the road although I decided to grab Forcett and Snelling instead of him.

He was dropped in alot of leagues after last week but should be picked up again in all leagues. I dont think he going to be great. They were playing Oak and that skews the results . And with no Bowe he will see 8 in the box and Kolby Smith will get some carries as the coaching staff has said they both will get carries so I dont see Charles as a great find but a solid #2 except when they play Pittsburgh. NExt week we could all be talking about Kolby Smith , thats how fast things can change.

when i was watching the game at jacksonville and they were using all 3 KC backs all i could think was it was kinda like a job interview...they wanted to see who was the best rb going foward...and then J.Charles comes out the next week and dominates the touches...i guess he won the job...IMO

Going forward, he has a decent schedule. For Ronnie Brown owners, I believe he is a better acquisition than a Forsett or Snelling who will probably be back on the bench next week when their counterparts return to action.

Looking at the schedule, I like the games after SD... I would not be too upset having Charles in my FLEX position for BUF, CLE, and CIN for the playoffs. Would I start him at SD, DEN... probably only if he can produce against PIT.

PIT

@SD

DEN

BUF

CLE

@CIN

did you intuit my AC forum post? :moneybag:
 But I just went in and read it...and I say  !
:whoosh:the question was whether to drop Charles for Snelling.I would think that you are saying no to that.

I'm down with some eight in the box... his 44 yd TD was on a 4th and one with eight/nine in the box. I prefer to think of 8 in the box more as 3 in the 2nd level.

17 carries, 58 yards rushing, 2 receptions, 8 receiving yards, 1 TD reception, 1 kickoff return TD.

Pretty good numbers against a tough Steelers defense. He was targeted 5 times in the passing game, and got 17 of the 18 carries by KC running backs. Looks like Charles is getting a large majority of the touches of KC running backs.

It's hard not be impressed with Charles now.

Forget about the kick return TD - that's gravy. And while he only averaged 3 yards per carry, he seemed to be moving the chains against a very tough run defense.

He might offer some meaningful value the rest of the way.

Agreed. The 3ypc is largely a result of those numerous 1, 2 and negative-yard runs where the Steelers were literally in the backfield when he got handed the ball.

I expect him to have a decent game next week against a much weaker defense, providing Haley doesn't go away from him. Haley's finally started to rely on him a little in the last couple weeks, and it's paid dividends. I really think Charles can be a guy who carries it 15 times per game, adds a couple catches and can return kicks, too. What KC needs is a guy who can give them another 10-12 carries, and maybe be a short-yardage guy as well. NOT a stud to take over.

14 carries, 93 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD, 3 receptions, 54 yards receiving.

Strong game for Charles. Once again he got the large majority of the touches by KC RBs. He continues to remind me of a Chris Johnson lite; his running style is also very similar.

Maybe it's just the uniform and the UT thing... but he actually makes me think of a mini-Priest.Small... very quick... good hands... finds the end zone... I don't think that he'll become the absolute stud that Priest was for a few years... but I think he's got the talent to be a quality back in this league.

jamal charles and simm-walker could end up being the top 2 waiver wire pick ups this season...and i have them both...i feel very lucky

Punch my ticket. The receptions are a really nice treat when the KC oline cant do squat. I flexed him in over Boldin with Warner out and won because of it. Not sure on the Denver game but licking chops for Buf and Cle.

Beyond the stats, two important things regarding Charles emanated from yesterday's game:

(1) Haley stuck with Charles despite the 1st half fumble

(2) Charles stayed in the game when the ball was at the two-yard line - i.e., the bigger Kolby Smith did not come in to vulture the score

same here, but neither helped me yesterday.

Jamaal Charles-RB- Chiefs Nov. 30 - 10:21 am et

Despite losing a critical fumble, Jamaal Charles earned praise from coach Todd Haley after Sunday's loss.

"This Jamaal Charles is without a doubt, minus the fumble which really hurt us, is showing that he can be a pretty good back," Haley said. He's impressed the past two weeks with his ability to make defenders miss and is putting his stamp on the feature back job heading into 2010

Good article on Charles' fumbilitis (or perhaps overblown lack thereof):

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/12/01/in...risk_vs_reward/

Some good comments by Haley at the end of the article:

Yesterday, in his first public comments since returning from a disastrous four turnover performance in San Diego, Chiefs head coach Todd Haley still made sure he praised Charles – the player whose fumble began the turnover barrage.

“Jamaal has done nothing but improve since I’ve been here,” Haley said. “He’s a guy that I’m excited about.

“I don’t want to go back and talk about college and Jamaal because I go by what I see,” Haley continued. “Here’s a kid we put through a little adversity early and sat him and he’s fought and pushed and everybody is getting a little excited about him. I’m not going to let that take away from the improvement he’s made and the upside I’ve seen.”

I almost cut Brandon Jacobs last week for Charles...now Charles is gone and I am stuck with Jacobs. :wall:

I forgot where I read it, but either a post or an article said that this weeks fumble was a result of him fighting for extra yards. One, like the effort and two, it will need to be learned when to go down which comes with game experience. I'm not overly concerned with fumbles going forward even though my league doesn't penalize for them.

Yes, it was clearly a result of him fighting for extra yards. The only concern with the fumbles, of course, is not for fantasy points, but whether it ticks Haley off to the point of benching him a la Slaton.

I drafted bothMy question for those that follow him closerIs he a legit starting RB? I drafted him in RD 10 and he is keeper eligible.

There are a lot more positional needs than taking a RB early seeing what Charles has done the last few weeks. They will probably bring someone in for depth though but I wouldn't expect earlier than a 3rd rounder. Next year, Chiefs play the NFC West and the AFC south which usually has some suspect run D's along with seeing Oakland twice. If you have to give up a Rd10 to keep him you could do much worse as again, if continues to perform like this, he should go Rd2-4 in most drafts.

Way too early to start speculating on team defenses - things change quickly.I do agree that Charles probably has the inside track on the starting gig next year - if he continues to perform. That said, I think the team will bring in some sort of complementary pounding-type back - I don't think Charles is going to be that 20-25 carry guy that we all covet.
