***** Official KTCK/1310 AM "The Ticket" Thread ***** (1 Viewer)

I've spent most of this week watching Bobbie Carpenter play frisbee with his buddy. Aikman and Garrett are also here and seemingly staying together. Any schtick suggestions for Bobbie is welcome. I assume he'll be here thru the 4th.
This crap got crazy. A ton of NFL guys showed up finally. Bobbie was doing one arm pushups with 4 kids on his back in the sand at one point.
You should have been doing the 3rd down seagull to cheer him on.

Yeah, I ditched the Ticket the rest of the week after it happened. It was wall to wall and I have no desire to hear it. Over the weekend we went to the inlaws house (they live less than an hour from Brownwood) and that was all that was on TV. Got back into town and I finally tuned back in to the Ticket this morning and the Musers were hitting it since they were on vaction when it happened. Please stop.

It was a terrible tradgedy and I can't imagine my 6 year old son having to go through that and remember it every day of his life. That being said, are we really honoring this guy's memory by continually rehashing the event and interviewing everyone who ever knew him? One of the TV reports was an interview with a firefighter who described how they were going to decorate the firetrucks for the funeral procession. Please people, let it go. If you believe in a higher power say a prayer for the gentleman and his family, then please quit following/feeding the media frenzy.

they'll always cover the big story from the week they were gone.

The Corner this year was probably one of the best things this year so far.

Radio Gold yesterday as Bob and Dan had Ralph Strangis on. He talked about being on Press Your Luck, winning and then snorting all of his winnings up his nose. Even the sailboat he won, he traded for more coke. He also talks about getting pulled over in Texas with weed in his car.

Lots of gold, even with his daughter in the studio with him.

I've been in and out of Dallas for the last few years. So I have, by default, become a p3 :bag:

However, based on the limited exposure I've had, ratings as follows:

Shows:

BaD

Musers

Norm / Hardline - I actually like Norm when he's rolling, and being stat-heavy, relevant, and tying historical performances and personalities to modern events. He's my guilty pleasure of traditional sportsy sports-talk. But, sometimes he can be too much.

I used to be a Hardline die-hard. The Hardline was at its high point at roughly the time they were broadcasting from the Byron Nelson the year that Dan got into town. Remember the story of Dan being driven from the airport by Big Dan Bennett? In general, the Hardline in the days of the nautical open (the smoking lamp is lit, heave to, trice up...we are haze grey and underway...)was IMO the best radio I've ever heard. I understand that Greggo became an anchor with his addiction problems, and he certainly wasn't much on "sportsy sports sports", but whatever x-factor he had seems to be the glue that held it together. Since he (and to some degree ole' Followil) have set sail for alternate ports of call, all is definitely not well in the nurturing biosphere of the mothership.

But, if I had to pick, I'd take Norm at his worst over Corby at his best. Corby does not appreciate the fact that he is an elevated yuk-monkey who got an amazing chance to be on a top-rated show. It is as if he had not devoted any effort to getting better. Everything about the guy is off-putting. He is smug, arrogant, and perhaps more importantly - not at all interesting. I liked him better when he and Gordo were dueling yuk-monkeys. The Hardline in its current configuration is at its best when Rhynes plays leading sarcastic guy to Danny's brevity-man.

However, overall, the most fun I have listening is still when Gordo does Jerry and International Chirp-Chirp does Wade or Campo. Some of the Gordo characters are failure like the cigarette-smoking baseball guy, or Jesse the Janitor. But fake Jerrah is still gold.

Completely agree with you about Corby. Way back in 1997 I was at a Prince concert and was fortunate enough to have floor seats and noticed he and Chris Arnold were two rows behind me. I went to grab a beer and the two of them were right behind me in line. Chris ARnold was pretty lit and slapped me on the back talking about how awesome Prince was. He and I talked for a good 5 minutes about Prince, Michael Jordan, all kinds of stuff while Corby didn't acknowledge my existence. Chris Arnold and I were talking about some awesome dunk the night before and I asked Corby if he saw it. You would have thought I asked him for $20. He looked at me and said "Uhhhh. yeah I did". I looked at Chris and said "Who the F is Mr. Personality you brought with you. He seems like a laugh a minute." Chris ARnold laughed and gave me a high 5. I can't stand Corby. You have his personality characteristics spot on. He's an arrogant dude that's lucky to be where he is.

Anyone going to the game tonight? When I heard they were playing college fastpitch players I assumed they had given up any hope of winning. Which is greater, the chance that the Old Gray Wolf steps on the field or that as a team the Ticket gets get no-no'ed?

What moron decided to let them do this? They will lose 90-0 with at best 1 hit.

The better question is what age group would they be an even money bet against? I'd say no older than 14.

The pitcher will have to have mercy on them at some point. Maybe after 3 innings of watching them whiff helplessly.

Are any shows coming to SA next week? Always wanted to grab a beer with Spank Miller for some reason. He kinda reminds me of Disco Stu for some reason or vice versa. :hophead:

:goodposting: It is going to be completely up to the girls on how much shtick/entertainment value there is going to be in this game. If they play all out, there won't be a ball hit past the pitcher, much less to the outfield. 1 hit or no-hit would be a good guess. On the other side, who for the guys can pitch fast enough with a softball to challenge the hitters at all? This is a college team, the Ticket team could not even stay up with a high school team in basketball, and not a good high school team at that.

The girls are giving the Ticket team a pitcher. She won't bat though.

The Ticket is having a college pitcher pitching for them. I can only imagine the smoking liners coming off of a Ticket dude's 30mph pitches. The infield would be backed up to warning track.

I think these girls don't really play together. Not that it matters.

Yeah, I'm still unclear on exactly who they're playing. I've heard "college all-stars" but have also heard "select college girls", which could just be random hots.

I didn't know they were getting a pitcher. That ruins half the game. Nothing like Corby "I guess I will have to pitch all 9 innings" Davidson getting put into his place.

Still think the girls win by 10 at least.

Shocked they won, right? Just making sure i am not missing some other big Ticket news.
Yeah. I think the general consensus from the people is that the pitchers made the difference between the two teams basically proving the theory that the softball mound is far too close.

Also some year we need to get off our ### and do a FFA P1 Fantasy football league.
Still in for this, although I am a P3 at best.
I tried to herd this group. At this point I'm fine just getting as many people as possible together in one place and the rest on google plus or something.
In.
Pretty sure we can auto-in doughboydeluxe. Other possibles would be stu, bogart, and maybe the elusive Tufnel.

Yeah there was a lot of discussion on this a year or two back. I would be interested if location and time permit.

We should see if we can work out that the league winner gets a segment with their show of choice on The Ticket. In studio.

Danny is my leader.

Yeah two years back we tried to do it. The main hurdle was the geography of the metroplex. People live everywhere from Keller to Burleson to Rockwall. Makes a meetup nearly impossible except on a weekend and I doubt anyone wants to do that.

I'm in, and don't mind driving to the east side.

I remember you trying to set up a league a couple of years ago so I just went through my inbox. I still have the original PM you sent about it on July 14th 2008. :bag:

Something like that. Basically there are a few ways this could work. The one that shuke does drafts on a sunday afternoon at hooters or something.Could easily gather as many live people at Stan's or a more geographically neutral hooters/BWW, the rest online somehow, and the rest just put a list in as a last resort. This seems to be the most plausible scenario to get as many people in person together. Second fall back would be a weeknight somewhere. This poses tons of issues that aren't there in option 1 and likely a huge headache with people no-show etc.Third fall back would be online only.

Stuff only local guys care about:

Went to brunch at Blue Mesa Grill off University in Fort Worth yesterday. Really good food, really good eye candy and champagne for a reasonable price.

Took the kids to Bedford Splash in Bedford last night. Much bigger than your HOA pool, much smaller than Hurricane Harbor, but a nice little setup, especially for little ones. Couple of slides for big kids as well. All for less than 7 bucks a head.

Love the Hooters idea on a Sunday afternoon. We need 12 though and I don't see 12 active participants in this thread. But as I said earlier, I'm still in.
