***** Official KTCK/1310 AM "The Ticket" Thread ***** (1 Viewer)

Interesting on the Junez divorce. I thought he sounded a little extra emotional yesterday in thanking Jub and Gordo for being great radio partners all these years.

I already wanted to be the Junez before this news. Now I really wish I was him.

Gribble trying out the greener pastures of ESPN?

Track record shows it never works but maybe the money is better for now.

So, started a new job this week. Gave up my private office and open schedule for less stress and hopefully getting in on something good. Anyway, I work now in one room with 2-3 other guys and they listen to The Fan a big part of the day. Man, I had forgotten how bad Chris Arnold sucked at radio. But I had also forgotten how much I liked Mike Bacsik talking baseball. Overall the channel still sucks compared to The Ticket, mainly because they still feel the need to take calls, and as much as I like Ben and Skin (and Bacsik), the athlete name dropping gets old really quick.

Congrats to Mike on making the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

Interesting that most of the other guys in the induction class bounced around from place to place. Norm is about to be 15 years at the Ticket, the last time there was a major show change.

Made a point to turn it over to Norm as they were promoting heavy Ranger Solutions Segement.

All we get is "don't trade Elvis, is Martin that good?, is Nefti that good?". Thanks Norm. Back to BOOM 94.5.

#DirkDay on Bob and Dan was really good. Three segments long. We are going to miss Dirk when he is gone. And I worry that when he is gone, he will be gone.

Looks like The Fan probably caught and passed the Ticket this ratings book. I'll admit, I'm listening less and less, going to podcasts and the like for sports talk. I could use some Greggo.

Why would anyone listen to the fan? It's an abortion. Who does this?
21-33 year old douchebags who still play fast-pitch baseball, drive white trucks and think the most inside sports you can be is when you start a comment with, "I was talking Dez/Dirk/Elvis the other day...."

I still stick with my opinion that Ben & Skin in small doses is amazing, every day is a beating.

Radio dazeIt’s a two-station race for the hearts and ears of sports talk radio listeners in Dallas-Fort Worth.

According to the latest Nielsen Audio ratings, SportsRadio 1310 The Ticket narrowly led 105.3 FM The Fan in the monthly competition for the all-important demographic of men 25-54.

The Ticket’s strength is its Monday-Friday lineup. The Fan is buoyed by Rangers games.

For the June book (May 20-June 17), it was The Ticket at 4.5 with The Fan at 4.4 in the holy demographic. KESN-FM (103.3) was third at 2.4.

Among men 25-54 from Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., when the high-priced local talent is on the air, it was: Ticket 5.8; Fan 4.4; KESN 2.5.

Meanwhile, The Ticket’s “Musers” dominated morning drive in men 25-54 regardless of station format. They were No. 1 overall with an 8.8 share in the ratings. Their nearest competitor was at KZPS-FM (92.5), a classic rock station on which Bo & Jim scored a 6.5.

Here’s the Monday-Friday June ratings by show in men 25-54:

The Fan Reigns Supreme In Dallas

Oh how the tide has turned in Dallas!

For years, Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket has dominated the market and had competitors questioning whether or not they had made a smart decision to enter the sports talk space.

And rightfully so.

The brand has been highly entertaining, the personalities are authentic, funny, larger than life and the competition was minimal.

But over the past few years, competition has improved, signals carrying sports talk programming have gotten stronger, and the once thought to be untouchable and iconic Ticket, now faces a challenge they’ve not had to deal with before.

Enter 105.3 The Fan.

Donovan Lewis leaving BAD Radio......

....and moving to Norm's show as a co-host.

Guess it's a move to help Donnie Doo get his own style out there without Bob and Dan in the way. And helps Norm move out towards retirement.

Can't argue with the move. Never really liked Donnie or what he brought to BAD radio, so burying him with Norm (who's brilliant, but someone I seldom listen to) and freeing up BAD radio is a major win for me.

They're high if they think Donnie will be the rock they build around to fill the 10-12 slot when Norm finally hangs 'em up.

donovan early on didn't bother me but got to the point I couldn't tolerate BAD at all. He also torpedoed all the roundtables and campouts and stuff.

You had to figure some type of shakeup needed to happen. Musers still dominate, Hardline holding their own, but with the midday getting beat, heads need to roll, or get shifted around.

The Fan is still crap and you shouldn't be losing to them. ESPN is even worse.

I'm really not sure who listens to the Fan. They do hardcore sports most of the day so maybe there's really a bigger market for that than the Ticket realized.

Station is a little better for the Donovan move. But I get the sense the whole station is getting pressure to be more sportsy. I tune out every sports segment and lately seems like I never listen at all.

I wonder how much podcasts are killing stations like this. The 20 minutes of talk and 40 minutes of commercials model doesn't seem to work anymore. I haven't listened heavily in years. I don't recall the last time I've even tuned in at all. I would think it has been well over a year now.

Does anyone else use the Sportsday app to listen to the ticket? I use it almost daily as the wife and I like to spend our afternoons out on the back porch or in the pool in the summer listening. We even listened when we were over in Greece while sipping wine on our balcony. I love the ability to pause and rewind but I think the app is a little flaky in that it skips forward on its own after having been paused and disconnects occasionally. And the commercials are awful. Even after several weeks I think they are still referring to the Norm as having his own show rather than the Invasion of Norm & D.

I give it 7 out of 10.

Podcasts have killed it for me, I have to admit. I know my commute time each morning and afternoon and basically pick a podcast to listen to. I get more content out of Bill Simmons, the Grantland podcasts, Nerdist, Tim Ferriss, Joe Rogan, Onnit, etc than I get out of the radio.

I will still tune in for some Cowboys postgame, Stars games and post game, some of BAD radio, and the occasional Saturday show. But I am absolutely not a P1 or P2 anymore.

Tuned into the Hardline yesterday and got an interview with Seattle punter Jon Ryan's fiancee. It was just flat. The magic with Mike and Corby is gone.
