I'm heartbroken. Radiohead scheduled their Texas dates for my wedding weekend.

Wedding night they're playing Houston.

Wedding night +1 they're playing here in Dallas, but I'll be on the plane to Mexico about the time they take the stage at Supernoffplex.com Center.

And here I was thinking it was bad enough that Rev. Horton Heat was playing Stubb's about 3 blocks from where I'm getting married and I have no way to go.

Greg Williams: Life After The Hardline

Fri Feb 08, 2008 at 10:00:17 AM

Caught up yesterday with Greg Williams, formerly half of The Hardline. Maybe you remember him? While The Ticket rolls along toward this weekend’s Ticketstock with only occasional references to their former host as “He Who Must Not Be Named,” Williams is slowly piecing his life back together in the wake of a successful 14-year run at the station ending in drug addiction and a messy divorce from co-host Mike Rhyner.

“I’m doing great,” Williams tells Unfair Park. “I’ve come to the realization that I’m gone from the Ticket. I need to move on. And I will.”

Honestly, the dude sounds good. Sober. Remorseful. But at the same time, pretty upbeat.

Having completed drug rehab and out-patient therapy for depression, Williams spent the holidays at his vacation home in Breckenridge, Colorado. He’s now back in Dallas at his Turtle Creek condo, mulling what he calls “several options” to get back onto local radio. He wouldn’t go into specifics on-the-record -- nothing will likely happen before his six-month “non-compete” clause expires in June – but I think it’s a safe bet The Hammer will be heard from again.

As for The Hardline, it has sporadically filled Williams’ old chair with the likes of Kevin Scott, Kelly Milligan, John Rhadigan, Ken Daley, Grant Boone, Mark Followill and, ahem, yours truly. A Ticket source told me yesterday, however, that no one replacement is being considered, there is no time line for adding a new voice, nor is there even a clear decision on whether or not Hammer’s spot will be permanently filled. See, I toldja The Ticket replacing Greg Williams will be as tricky as Monday Night Football trying to replace Don Meredith. --Richie Whitt

Replacing the Hammer is not that big of a problem. Getting Rhyner (who's dead, I agree) to retire is the problem. As a team they were getting unlistenable well before the split, as an individual Mike is a whip. How many years do you think Rhyne's has left in him? The baton actually passed from the Hardline to BaD a while ago, it's time to make it official and move everyone back a slot (BaD to drivetime and Musers 12 - 3) while they try to develop new talent in the morning.

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying that's my opinion of the situation.

They need to develop new talent from 10 to noon. Norm is absolutely unlistenable.

I'm not a big fan of Norm and I'd rather he be stashed during hours I don't listen but honestly he probably has the best insight of anyone at the Ticket. Since it's a SPORTSS station I have no beef with them keeping him in the lineup. I just go with Iron Maiden or Metallica for a couple hours while he's on.

I do think that they should move Bad to drivetime, but you leave the Musers alone. Morning drive is a huge cashcow, and they won't shake that apple cart. The time to develop your talent is 12-3. Let Norm do his 10-12 ssssspppooorrrtttssssss (it has it's place, if for nothing else the drops) and take that 3 hour spot after and try something new. I still think there is a market for something local nights as well, if not during the top 10 slot then after DP. I think if they had left BDH alone and let him do his thing, the ratings would have been huge.

Some people don't appreciate Dan's greatness.

Grubes just slipped

He played the Greggo "Ha" drop normally played after a bad/obvious joke.

I wonder how close Greg &/or his attorneys listen to the hardline to make sure the drops are not played

The Mavs had to make that trade. The team wasn't winning squat in its previously current form.

Now they just have to find someone to eat up fouls against real big men.

Wrong thread but I like this one better...

I just don't see Dallas winning the title this year with this lineup. Who is JK going to pass to when he penetrates past the arc? The same 17 foot jump shot heros that have been palying here forever. I see Damp getting hit in the face multiple times when JK hits him with the no look or the ball going through his hands and ending up 3 rows behind the baseline. Am I wrong?

We have no inside game and no rebounding.

I can't imagine they'll continue spotting up for 17 foot jumpers with Kidd. I'm hoping this snaps them back into the take-it-to-rack mentality that got them past the Spurs and Suns before they choked in the finals 2 years ago. I may be "misremembering" this, but Dirk was nails in both those series and wasn't settling for just long jumpers with a man in his face.

"Superstars win champinships... Duncan's, Shaq's, Hakeem's, Jordan's... Kidd's? I don't know, but I know Kidd is more of a superstar than Harris"

"I can nearly guarantee that Kidd saw what happened last year at Golden State, and he's not going to let that happen again"

Am I the only one that thinks the Hardline talking about basketball/Mavs is just about unlistenable? It's AWFUL...

The only person that seems to make sense some of the time is Danny, and even he makes extremely ridiculous, blanket statements. Like claiming the Mavs were "Done" and weren't going to win more than 15 games last year after the bad start. :loco:

Always, just don't post too much. Although I've been meaning to jump in on the conversation in this thread.
