You foresee them playing a lot of 6-on-5 the rest of the series?  Because that's how they scored both their goals.
Still an impressive feat, no?  They had some other opportunities throughout the game (e.g. Rust breakaway which I believe was after Crosby went down?).   Fleury is playing great and the defense is blocking tons of shots (like last year).  This team still looks pretty well built for the playoffs.  Maybe they're not as talented as the Caps but they're playing well and they're up in the series.

BTW, right now the best future odds in the series is Pens win in 6 or Pens win in 5.

If you're talking about me, I'm a hockey fan, and I don't care which team is doing the after the whistle crap.  If the officials don't let it happen, it stops.  They allow it, so the players keep doing it, and they keep pushing the envelope a little further each time.  Play the game the way it's supposed to be, from whistle to whistle.  Don't shove your gloves under someone's visor to try to get them to throw a punch.  Don't take a cheap shot after the whistle, hoping to get retaliation that gets a penalty.  Play the game the right way.
  Perhaps you should try watching figure skating? No offense but this sounds like some liberal minded bull####. It's the way the game has been played since its inception,  it's not going to change anytime soon.

The fact that the game has been played a certain way forever doesn't mean that it is good for the sport as a whole or OK, either. The NFL has cleaned similar things up and as a result we are generally seeing better football IMO -- the HOF QBs extending their careers and not missing time, far less head shots and concussions, etc.

Any way you slice it, and whether you hate Crosby or not, the best and most marketable player in the league was put in jeopardy of missing the rest of the playoffs by two illegal shots to the head from the sticks of opposing players, and that isn't good for the sport as a whole at all.

The only illegal thing on the Crosby hit was him flopping when Ovechkin barely touched him.  Flopped right into Niskadin's protecting himself.  What different was Niskadin supposed to do?  Drop his entire stick?

Maybe Crosby should slice off a few more fingers of other players so he'll be the only whiny ##### on the ice.

Pens fans upset about refs???  They had zero penalties called on them in game 1.  That's ZERO.  They did nothing wrong.  Nothing.   They are the NHL's golden boys.  And the NHL didn't even think Nickadin's hit merited anything.  That's the NHL, which would enjoy the Cup sitting permanently on a wall in PIT.

Right or wrong, I think a lot of people would disagree with you on this one. Particularly when it comes to being able to "legally" hit the quarterback or play defense in the secondary.

It's a give and take on which I can see both sides. I personally fall on the side of keeping the best players on the field as much as possible.

Hope you are right, but not feeling too good about it right now. Murray, Letang, Crosby, Sheary, Kunitz, and looks like maybe Hagelin and Hornqvist too now is quite a bit to overcome, 2 -1 lead or not.
yesterday, Pens fans thought the series was over and they were planning the Cup victory parade.

now they seem to think the season is over.

what a huge turning point!

good thing Johansson got up when Daley hauled him down in overtime.  he fell right into MAF and looked banged up after so that is boarderline for getting the torches out and running that evil goalie out of the league.  falling into a guy is the worst thing to happen to hockey since tucked Bondra jerseys.

Losing the best player in the game will have that effect. Same thing as if the Cavs lose LeBron or the Patriots lose Brady. It's a huge deal.

Nice to have guys like Malkin and Kessel to fall back on though. Two truly elite scorers right there. Injuries happen in the NHL playoffs all the time.

I've been reduced to being a Caps fan for arguing common sense?  jfc, maybe I should rethink this.  or at least check what Tie Domi thinks first.

Crosby and Sheary are huge losses but a small consolation is that at the Pens get to dress 12 forwards in Game 4. They spent over half the game with 10.

Malkin and Kessel looked totally gassed by OT.

Lost in all of this ... I've been coming here or following Twitter or watching games, when I should have been getting all of my NHL news from FFToday and something called "Upgruv".

Common sense? Ovechkin getting nothing on the initial slash to the head and Niskanen deserving less than a major for the cross-check to the head that knocked Crosby out cold isn't really an unbiased, common sense type of opinion.

Sounds great. Except I've been talking about the little crap going on after the whistle.

Nothing I've said had anything to do with the Crosby situation.

Eta: I know you're hurting, T&P, we've been trough a superstar with head problems. (Started by a giggling Kasperitis and friends, karma anyone?) I don't enjoy seeing the best (any)players hurt either.

you're right, I rock so much red.

FWIW, Ovechkin could easily have been a 2 min minor, never said different.

aftermath major call, happens all the time now that the omg his head culture has taken over.  if what you think happened actually did there would be a suspension today.

now let me get back to pinning my Ovie flathead on my wall.
