**** OFFICIAL **** LOST - The TV Series (1 Viewer)

Here's a way-out-there thought on what they are all staring at in the water (that we saw in the preview)

another plane crash?
My initial thought:They were staring at their OWN plane crash.

Hows that for a mind bender?

Let's lay out the "obvious" timeline. This is assuming that everything we've been shown has been straightforward. Once we lay this out, then we can figure out where its wrong:

1. Dharma set up the hatch system on this island to run psychological experiments on people as well as ... other projects???. The subjects in the Swan were unaware they were part of this experiment. We think we know this from the video found in the swan hatch.

2. The experiments were evidently apparently abandoned in some sort of panic, as no-one even took the time to clean the ashes off the table in the swan hatch. It looks like they got up and scrammed.

3. They Some of the hatches have been abandoned for many years, perhaps 15-20.

54. There are "others"other people on the island.

7(a). There's some french lady (Danielle) who claims to have been on a ship that wrecked here. She looks for her daughter (Alex) who apparently was taken by others and is apparently still alive and has been seen with others. Danielle claims to have killed all other shipmates as a result of their contracting a "sickness" She Alexseems to be a part of their group the "others" but also disobeyed them by releasing the young mother. This demonstrates again the lack of control and possible conflict within the group of others.

(b)The "others" could be part of Dharma. Dharma could be experimenting on the others as well. Or perhaps they are people who escaped from the Dharma experiments. (They wear costumes to fool the losties, complete with make-up and fake beards. They appear to know more than the losties, but also do not seem to have full control of the island. They have to infiltrate the losties as one known way to try to get information. They have to made use of a an abandoned hatch as a makeshift hospital, then quickly abandoned it.) They make lots of mistakes.

45. Flight 815 crashes on the island in two parts. They (front end of the plane) find the swan hatch. They find Desmond apparently still engaged in one of the experiments. The tail section survivors find the Arrow, which has been abandoned.

6. Survivors discover that someone (Dharma?) does regular food drops, demonstrating they are that some portion of the project is still active and in some position of control.
Edited to remove speculation, add caveats and rearrange events a bit.Timelines can be a useful tool. But a lot of the speculation doesn't really fit in the context of a timeline.

And the beam of light that came out of the original hatch?

I've been asking this since we first saw the inside of the Swan
I thought Desmond turned the lights on for some reason? I don't think there is anything mystical or mysterious about this one. Lights + mirrors = light up the shaft and out the top.

what happened to the black cloud thing?
And the beam of light that came out of the original hatch? I've been asking this since we first saw the inside of the Swan
I wonder if that beam of light was just another mental manipulation. We have seen enough of it to know it is there, so maybe the same entity that told Eko to go with Locke was trying to tell Locke to keep trying to open the hatch? That seems plausible to me since the entity in both cases got the survivors to go into hatches and figure more stuff out.

Dude, like, whoa :o
Maybe Zeke is actually Jack, the "others" are the actual 815 survivors, The people they keep "kidnapping" are people they know will cause some harm to come to the group and they're all trapped in an infinite time loop meeting older versions of themselves...

Okay, now that's just unbelievable. :)

I think PC is referring to before Desmond even knew they were trying to get in the hatch. Remember when Locke got frustrated that he couldn't open the hatch? He yelled something and fell down and then the light beam came shing out.Based on Desmond's reaction to the explosion, I don't think he even heard Locke before that. I base that just on the questions he asked Locke ("Are you him"). If that was Desmond shining the a light with the mirrors then why didn't he try to communicate more with Locke thinking that it could be his replacement? Also, can you remember anything we have seen in the hatch that would produce that much light? A flashlight and a couple mirrors isn't going to produce as much as that huge beam.

Pretty interesting, but that's not it.

That would be wild. Whatever it is, it sure doesn't seem small. It better not be some rinky dink life raft with a new character or something. I wanna see Revelations type stuff, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria. ;)

I agree. I want something to make me pause my TIVO, put my head in my hands and think for a couple of minutes.Imagine if that were it. Whomever was behind the crash (815) realized that not everyone would survive....and had no problem bringing in more "subjects" by that means.

If anyone cares, I missed Wednesday night's show. I watched it on abc.com last night. It was a great way to watch it. Every 5 minutes or so, you have to watch a 15 second commercial, then back to the show. And, its free.

Dude, that could be like so totally what it is, and then like the dog will come out and we'll find like that out HE'S the one behind the big blue curtain and that would be just epic. Hey man, stop hogging all the ganja.

stbugs knows what I'm talking about. It's even referenced in last years http://www.oceanicflight815.com. The beam of light was the original link to the Hanso Foundation.

Now that you made me think about it. I do think that was from the island entity, or whatever you want to call the thing that made Eko/Locke dream about each other and the ?.Remember, Locke was the first one to stumble upon the black smoke monster and he smiled at it. He also keeps referring to multiple times when the island told him to do things. At that moment, he started to question what the island was telling him, so the beam of light was just a way to get him to continue and get the hatch open.

One thought...

the only feed that was coming through in the pearl hatch observation room was from the swan hatch. Eko kept saying that pushing the button may be more important than they realized. Prelude to pushing the button kept the swan feed recording and will result in finding the truth? But preview for next week sounded like Sayid was onto Michael anyways. Anyways, for six hatches - one feed working. Any other guesses?

Hulk, not everyone is blessed w/ common sense.  In fact, it has shown to be less common among those with more intelligence.  Brush it off man :)
Nobody seems to have a thought or concern that the Swan was the only hatch still recording? Nope. Its better to argue for 3 pages over a ? vs. 0. Personally, I thought it looked like Pi symbol. :bag:

To add some oddities:8. The small prop plane carrying Eko's brother flew HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD and crash landed on this island above a hatch just weeks/months prior to the crash of flight 815... (For me, this is the single biggest mystery of the show. The answer to a lot of stuff involves this)

9. There is apparently some monster on the island. It was seen in the first episode trashing in the forest. It grabbed the pilot and killed him. We saw a mechanical arm type/thing grab Locke and try to drag him into a hole. We saw black smoke interact with Eko. Both times we heard the same "sound" that the monster made.

10. Some losties are seeing visions and are having prophetic dreams. Michael's son saw some stuff (and was taken by the others). Eko saw things in the black smoke and had dream visions. Locke had dream visions.

11. Locke is different from the rest. The mechanical arm tried to capture him and drag him into a hole. Desmond asks Locke "Are you him?" The captured other tells Locke he had come for him.

This is what has me the most dumbfounded. The pilot was pulled violently from the top of the cockpit which had to have been 15' high or so. The canopy was instantly covered in blood, and the body was deposited in a treetop. Initially I thought dinosaur. They introduced the polar bears, but they don't leave their prey in treetops. The smoke-monster has not done anything but grab Locke, and we are led to believe it knocks over trees though we have not seen this directly, only it has happened when the smoke was nearby. One of the biggest teases in the 1st episodes, and it has nearly been forgotten. Nobody even thinks twice about going into the jungle anymore.

I just got around to watching this week's episode that I taped. However, in my hurry to tape it the other night I forgot that Lost always goes over by a few minutes. My tape cut of right after Libby died and Jack shut her eyes. Can anyone tell me if anything happened after that? Previews for next week? Thanks!

Link to the recap LINK. There is also a link there to download and watch the show for free. Probably better than any recap I can give. The preview was pretty cool and the best part was everyone at the beach stopping to look at something out in the water with a look of amazement.

I watched the whole episode except for the last minute or two. Just looking to find out if anything happened at the end. The streaming video server is down so that's not an option.

Not to mention the fact that Eko needed time to establlish himself, in another country, as an actual priest.9. There was no mechanical arm. We saw the black smoke and heard mechanical sounds. Not many good screen caps around, but you can see black here.

10. Walt appeared in other people's visions, but I dont remember him having any of his own.

12. There is a centuries old ship sitting intact in the middle of the jungle.

13. Certain people have apparently been healed simply by living on the island.

For everyone using he lost.cubit.net image of the "question mark" as evidence, take a look at this. Somewhere between 3 and 4 o'clock is "The Pearl?", nowhere near the center ?. Couple this with the actual Eko quote (he said CIRCLE), you cant help but "question" if he and Locke found the "?" or something else.
Yet another reason not to post drunk...Eko and Locke werent looking for a literal question mark; they were looking for an unknown location.

Haven't really looked at the map with every thing translated, and I noticed some things. (this doesn't really relate Dr. van Nostrand's post just things I noticed)1. On the right side of the page it says "Hic sunt dracones" which translates to "here be dragons". Since we haven't seen the smoke monster do any physical harm and since no one really knows what a dragon sounds like (could sound mechanical), maybe this is the thing that killed the pilot in the first episode.

2. D.I.H.G. is all over this map. Dharma Initiative Hanso Group?

3. The latin in the top left says that "the disease worsens with treatment, the remedy is worse than the disease" This leads a lot of credence to Danielle's story.

That's all for now. Sorry if any of this was already discussed.

Again, I'm avoiding posts in this thread that seem like spoilers so sorry if I'm posting something that's already been posted. But, I think it's something that comes up out of the water. Not necessarily the Loch Ness Monster or anything, but something that relates to the hatches.

And :goodposting: to whoever wondered what happened to the black smoke monster (and the Polar bears, etc). I couldn't figure out how to quote both posts in one.

9. There was no mechanical arm. We saw the black smoke and heard mechanical sounds. Not many good screen caps around, but you can see black here.
I could have sworn there was a sort of chain and clamp on Locke's leg?

There hasn't been much talk of the log that they printed off. They could go back to see if Henry actually did put in the code, or if he typed in something else to signal Dharma to drop the supplies, or if he typed in nothing as he said.

good point.I hate to bring it up again but if it was a circle why did they look for the hatch under the plane (i.e. the bottom of the question mark) and not in the middle of the circle?

The general impression they were giving was they began looking everywhere for a hatch. But instead of wasting a full 5 minutes of screen time showing them lift every leaf and rock, its better to just skip to the part where they find the hatch.

What really do you want to discuss about it? There's been so many things that could have major importance since the series began, that it gets tiring.Let's just spoof the whole process and argue about ? or O until they reveal something big.

Why would the hatch opening be in the middle of the drop mark? Obviously the hatch opening was currently covered, hence, it had to be under the plane.

But Echo was specifically looking for a question mark. Why would he stop looking because he found a circle?

There's probably a whole bunch more that happened, but, Lost being Lost, they only showed us the parts that the directors thought would provide some good fodder for the masses while still maintaining a misdirectional approach. Thus, we weren't privey to Lock and Ecko finding a question mark, swinging on the vine that dangled from it into the pristine lake, eating peaches on the beach, and cavorting with Herve Villechaize. But that's Lost for ya.

Oh yeah...

Since we haven't seen the smoke monster do any physical harm and since no one really knows what a dragon sounds like (could sound mechanical), maybe this is the thing that killed the pilot in the first episode.
Hic sunt dracones is a common map term, from back where maps extended into uncharted areas. Basically, it was a just a common expression for "I don't know what is past this point".
