Why isn't this a daily national story? Why is no one putting any pressure on MLB to step in and force the sale of this team?

Heading up to Chicago in 2 weeks for a wedding. Will be up there on Thursday so we were interested in going to a baseball game. My beloved White Sox aren't in town so we will do the next best thing and go to Wrigley Field to cheer on the Diamondbacks. LOL.

After going to Loyola University for a college tour for my son, we will head to Wrigleyville for a Friday day game. Looking forward to it. I moved away from Chicago when I was 18 but still follow all Chicago sports. If I had to count them up, I have probably been to more Cubs games in Wrigley than White Sox games in Comiskey/The Cell/Whatever it's called now. Doesn't make sense, but it just seems that whenever I am Chicago, the White Sox are always out of town.

It really doesn't matter who we see, it's just nice to get out to a game.

HR Derby in San Fran.  Gaussman/Bieber started a game that ended up with 11 runs today.  I wonder if the MLB is realizing the nerf ball route was a bad idea and they are putting the juiced balls back in the rotation.

Cincinnati Reds currently 3-22. Worst team since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders?
Truly don’t understand how they could be this bad. Would the best AAA team do better?

What is Merrifield's problem this year?  He looks like he can't hit anymore.  Seems more than just a slump.
Not sure. I honestly think it's a regression for him. He looks slow at the plate and to me it's throwing everything off. And he's swinging at damn near anything it seems like.

I do like me some Bobby Witt Jr though. Kid is gonna be a good one.

From an article written by Alex Lewis at The Athletic about the Royals:

The numbers explain the putrid start. At the plate, the club ranks 28th in OPS (.601), 28th in walks (69), 29th in home runs (13) and 22nd in hard-hit rate (37.1 percent). The pitching seems to take those rankings personally — and raises. The Royals rank 27th in ERA (4.62), 27th in WHIP (1.39) and 29th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.90).

Junior is lightning fast and his defense is really good too.  I have been most impressed with his defensive play.  He has made a handful of incredible plays thus far.

As far as Whit goes, in the AB's I have seen he definitely doesn't have the plate discipline he has had the last couple of years.  He is going out of the zone way more then I have ever seen him.  That is a sure sign of pressing and not seeing the ball well.  Maybe he needs a day off.

First walkoff HR of his career by Judge. What a win!
Earlier the umps gathering to discuss a HBP of Donaldson and deciding to toss Garcia was a joke.  Horrible decision there. The Jays need to get on track before things slip away.

Well, in addition to ownership putting a AAAA team on the field, they have also had more than half of the expected opening day roster on the IL (including Castillo, Senzel, Lodolo, Votto, Moustakas, Naquin, Barrero, Stephenson, just among their veterans and top rookies).  So injuries on top of getting rid of Gray, Miley, Winker, Suarez, Barnhart for either nothing or guys who won't contribute for a year or two.

But in general, F the Castellinis.

:lmao: @ the bolded

11 of MLB's 30 teams are 200-1 or more in title odds. i scan every box score every day and the number of unqualified starters in The Show is astounding. system's broke.
What about the system being broke leads to unqualified starters being used?

The part I see is that pitchers don't actually know how to pitch.  They just try and throw the ball by everyone.  Pitch sequencing and location is terrible.  That is a function of velocity being king so guys don't learn to pitch they just learn to throw hard.  MLB hitters can hit 95+ when that's all they see.  Guys need to learn to actually pitch instead of just throw.

Just caught a moment of a baseball game on in the background. Pawlecky just got called out on a strike three that was like that guy's strike zone from 1997 in the Florida game. All these improvements, and these guys still suck. Still ruining games.

#### the unions.

#### 'em all.

What worthless #### to spend one's time on if you want a fair outcome. Enjoy!

Officiating in baseball is no worse than any other sport.

I would actually say it's the best. By far.

It's also a known fact that the boxes displayed on TV for the strike zone are inaccurate.

I disagree, but even if so, It's the easiest to remedy and probably the most important sport to do so. They've had twenty-five years to do so and failed. Other sports are constant motion. Baseball is so isolated that it's easier to enforce the correct calls. It's a slow-paced game that doesn't hinge on flow at all. That strike call tonight cost Boston a tremendous amount. It would have been so easily remedied that tossing the starting catcher and manager over a pitch a foot out of the zone does the entire game a disservice.

This was egregiously bad. Everybody got tossed. The announcers were like, "Well, that was a ball."

It wasn't even close.

I didn't see it, so I don't know. I'm just saying generally speaking.
Generally speaking, the zone on the screen is only a guide, for sure. But it can remedy calls a foot out of the zone. I'm not exactly sure what the umpire was looking at. 3-2, bases loaded, 3-3 game in the mid innings. Just happened to look up at the screen and it was the same story as many years ago. Still balls being called strikes and vice-versa. If they'd cleaned this up with the union (an intractable problem? I don't know...) many years ago this wouldn't still be happening.

But this is obviously a good vibes thread. I'll bow out now.

The ball is coming in at 100 mph from 60 feet away. If often has supernatural spin and break on it. I think it's understandable that they might miss one occasionally. And remember, if any fraction of the 2.75" (or whatever) wide ball touches any part of the plate, it's a strike. So the plate is much wider than it appears.

And sometimes the catcher or batter moves part of their body at the last second and obscures your view.

It's harder than it looks.

Who do you guys have for LEAST Valuable Player right now?  Gotta be Trevor Story, right?  My god....

1.  Trevor Story
2. Marcus Semien
3. Whit Merrifield
