***Official*** MARK WALTON Thread....Miami RB (1 Viewer)

I added him but idk if I personally would play him in the playoffs, regardless of what his matchup is. Not after getting cute this week and playing Ty Johnson over Mixon. Survived but it's a reminder that when you get cute you're more likely to get burned.

Oh cool.  You play in one those leagues where a guy can take over a starter role, get starter volume, and put up 2+ good fantasy games before anyone bothers to pick him up.

For the rest of us playing in larger than 4 team leagues these kind of adds have to be made speculatively.  And there's been a lot more spent on guys who've had a lot less clear of a path to a starting role and who have looked a lot less able in their path to it.

FWIW that "starter volume" came against the league's #3 defense, but the Fins get the league's #19, #28, and #32 defenses during the fantasy playoffs.  And obviously the passing down reps that Drake was taking were among the most valuable kind of reps.  It's not like Ballage is going to take them if they become available.
These condescending, "I'm smart and you're stupid" type posts are not what we want. The contribute less than nothing as they actually hurt the board. Stop.

Tone aside, if his point is we usually have to go after guys before everyone else is on board, he's right here.

I picked Walton up where I could but won't start him yet.

I actually have him in my starting lineup this week - PPR and I think he's good for 22-24 touches tonight

I benched Preston Williams and Lazard in favor of Walton

Everything is coming together for us......except the Dolphins still suck.
True but if he picks up the garbage time dumpoffs that Drake has vacated that may not matter as much.

I guess the question is will he get those, or do they have another potential passing down back on the roster?

I think he lines up as something close to a 3-down workhorse. 15+ touches weekly, and he's looked good running the ball even against some tough defenses.

I don't see anyone else who would assume the passing-down work, so he shouldn't be gamescript dependent. Could be huge.

Mark Walton will take over as Miami's lead back with Kenyan Drake traded to the Cardinals.

Walton was already starting over Drake, but he had been in a near-even timeshare, playing 52 percent of snaps last week. He's now headed for a full-time role, with a plodding Kalen Ballage mixing in on short-yardage and red-zone situations. Drake's departure is a boost to Walton's ROS outlook. The Dolphins gamescripts will always be against Walton, but he should have RB3 value down the stretch.

Yup. Signed the guy who started Kenny Stills over Austin Hooper and Darrell Henderson over a 2nd QB.

I' proud to say I haven't watched a Dolphins game in awhile but will be tonight. I'm hoping he will be a flex option come playoffs as his cake schedule hopefully means there's a chance at competitive games.

My reason for getting him would be for bye weeks and depth for injuries.  I really don't expect some stud rb to be sitting on the waiver wire.

welp, after the trade today, decide I would drop Gallup for Walton and hopefully sneak him back through after waivers this week.

wish I had done a more thoreau review, but decided to go confidently in the direction of my dreams and live the life i've imagined.  hoping to still get back on the horse next week and really take the reins in this league.

Had Drake in my lineup due to the Cowboys bye week. Now I get to choose between Walton and Dionte Johnson. These choices never go well.

You know this is the Walton thread, not the Walden thread, right?

I appreciate the effort in that post

This might be another sell window on the hype before he plays, similar to Ty Johnson.

I trust the Dolphins more than the Lions though. Walton has a much higher long term upside than Johnson, mainly since he doesn't have anyone coming off IR next year to take the job away from him even if he earns it for this year.

I brought in both Gallup and Walton on my roster, but I have to admit I did not do a Thoreau investigation.
This joke was an hour late...

He doesn't hit the holes hard at all and the OL cant hold blocks long. Plus that was just an ugly fumble.

Lost a lot of excitement for him tonight.

Walton has very good vision between the tackles. He's not a burner but has lateral quickness. He's a good receiver. He's playing for a contract extension.

Mark Walton rushed 11 times for 35 yards in the Dolphins' Week 8 loss to the Steelers.

He added three catches for 19 yards on six targets but also lost a horrible fumble in Pittsburgh territory when he had the ball poked out from behind. Walton has averaged 13.3 touches per game in his three weeks as the starter but has yet to find the end zone. He should see 12-18 touches next week in a winnable game at home against the Jets where Walton will be an RB3/FLEX.

As horrific as Ballage has looked this year, I thought Ballage looked like the better back yesterday, which is meaningless because the coaches have already given up on Ballage and they love Walton.

Tough night at PITT with that awful O-line blocking.....but I thought I had glimpses of something there with Walton that corresponded with the last two games.

I didn't see this at all.

I didn't see this at all.
Ballage is big and fast, so he had one nice long TD run last year. But he's not better between the tackles than Walton, who has very good vision and is also a better receiver.  Miami's oline is bad, and Pittsburgs d is good. Walton may have some better games ahead versus weaker defenses. He's a bye week filler.

That's 4.9 points in my league so it's a bit hard to get excited yet.

I think they limit Ballage to red zone because they don’t want him to break a long touchdown. They went into panic mode Monday when they got up 14-0.

Agreed.  He also looked even smaller than advertised.

What a difference a weekend makes. My opinion of Walton hasn't really changed but my circumstances have.

I can't see starting him absent multiple roster hits but, go figure. In my super-flex redraft I have Dalvin/Mattison but after that I am looking at:

Conner injured

Samuels still gimpy

Damien Williams getting virtually no love

TampaBay being unwilling to use Ronald Jones consistently and unable to open holes when they do.

Dalton getting benched making him expendable on my roster.

So I picked up Walton over Guice.

The crazy part, is that I am considering starting him this week.

[bigtimerationalization] I think the Jets are imploding. Mosley's out, Leonard Williams is gone, Trumaine Johnson... whatever is happening there and Jamaal Adams seemingly very unhappy after the trade deadline, Kileche gone, Darnold looking shaky (and that's being very kind)  this team looks to be on the brink of contending for #1 overall.[/bigtimerationalization]

My fear is Conner will be limited all week, Samuels will still be more hurt than we know and they will both be active only to quickly cede carries Pitt's 4th string RB (Trey Carson??? I really don't know) will become their lead back.

And of Jones, Williams and Walton...man this is hilarious but, I think Walton has the best opportunity.

WTMFF!?!?!

There are worse plays than starting Walton st home against the Jets I guess, although the lack of high confidence is justifiable.

He's gonna get chances, on the ground and through the air, he just needs to squirt through a couple holes with that quickness and he can have a reasonable day.

I dropped Pollard handcuff to add him for free, then watched him play with the lead role, then dropped him for the promise of one week of Jaylen Samuels.  I just don't see the offense supporting a stable fantasy scorer.  Kenyan Drake is very talented and he couldn't get anything going all year.

Now the Jets LB who replaced Mosley is out for the year.

The Fantasy Gods are begging me to start this guy.  Whatever choice I make is most definitely a trap.

I'm forced to start him in one league as well. I obviously don't love starting any Miami Dolphin, BUT volume is key and he will definitely get that. Its also a plus matchup. I'm not expecting an incredible game, but if he can get us 70 yards and a touchdown, ill be thrilled.

The Phins just put Howard on IR and he doesn't even require surgery just rest according to Miami coaches.

Walton if he flashes will be on IR by Tuesday of whichever week that flash comes. You can watch him for yourself but he is a very average back so I think he will continue to grab somewhere in the 15 touches range based on combo of run/rec and isn't likely to sniff the end zone all that often. Like someone mentioned, he is on the field a lot and will continue to do so. Likely won't produce many points but you have a starting RB. He was good enough for my RB6 spot, bench/bye week-flex area, better on my bench than someone grabs him in a few weeks and uses him against me in the playoffs...you can sometimes use the waiver wire as a defense move.

He’s looked pretty good in limited opportunities. I don’t like that He’s not used in short yardage, and he’s on a terrible terrible team, but this time of year with five weeks and injuries, one could do a lot worse at flex. I do like the six targets in the receiving game, even if he only brought in three of them.

I grabbed him before Sunday’s game on the rumor that Drake would be traded… Not sure if I’ll ever start him, but I’m betting I’ll have to throw him in my lineup as a dart throw at some point this year.

Jamal Adams now on the injury report. I wonder if he's pulling a Jalen Ramsey?

If he's out on Sunday how can you not start Walton?

Joking aside: No Williams, no Mosley (or his backup), no Trumaine Johnson and now Adams is "injured" too.

Throw in the whole deal with Kileche Osrmele and the Jets look to be in complete meltdown.

But for Leveon Bell, and assuming Adams sits, I think the talent disparity between the two teams is not significant.
