The Indianapolis Star expects the Colts to sit Marvin Harrison (questionable, knee) in Week 9.

Tony Dungy indicated Friday that he's treating Sunday's matchup with New England like any other regular season game, and that doctors have informed him that if Marvin sits out, he'll have a better chance of being effective long term. Look for rookie Anthony Gonzalez to take Harrison's place at flanker. Nov. 3 - 12:36 pm et

This just in: :goodposting:  :bs:  :hot:  :X :wall:
Don't forget the post above yours is from noon on Saturday. A lot happens in 24 hours. Dungy could also be trying the "mind games" Bill B. plays with his injuries. I still think Marvin goes and has his best game of the year.... If not, I'm dead....

The way this was reported on ESPN is IF he'd have a better chance of being effective long-term, they would sit him. It was not reported that the doctors have actually told the Colts anything like this. If they have, I think the Colts would be fools to give into the hype and play him.I know ESPN's credibility is shaky lately, but it's also possible the paper is overstating or misinterpreting what was reported yesterday. Hopefully we'll get some better info in the media barrage leading up to the game.

That has been reported. Here is Dungy's quote from Friday: "Our dilemma is that the doctors thought if he (Harrison) plays, he could have continued issues with it," Dungy said. "If we give him another week off, he probably would not have the same issues down the stretch. It will have to be a decision that's best for the season and not just best for this game."This quote strongly suggests Harrison will sit. However, Harrison is lobbying hard to play this week and maybe the knee got better the last two days. My guess is he sits but we'll see.

Hmm. I wonder why they didn't report it that way on the thing I saw yesterday? Assuming that's true, I just don't see how you can play Marvin this week. Home field not withstanding, you can't risk one of your best players over one game in week 9, no matter how much hype it's getting. They don't give out a trophy for the "mid-season Superbowl" (although they probably should).

Man...I am so torn on this. I have Curtis, Mason and Moss on the pine that I can put in for Harrison....but I KNOW he'll play and go off if I do.

Tough call.

for all the Harrison Owners feeling down in the dumps, here is a slightly cheerful read.

Marvin Harrison - GREEN: Ignore the ill-informed reports of doom. Yes, Harrison is less than 100% with that nasty bruised knee he suffered on the RCA dome floor (and let's quit calling it turf when it's this hard). It's going to slow him some, but he's not a speed guy. He's a precise route-runner who has some mystical talent for getting open then psychically connecting with Peyton Manning to let him know he's just this open. The transition from Harrison to Reggie Wayne is complete, but don't take that as irrelevance or even a step back. Wayne's as good as Harrison, transitioning like Jerry Rice did from Dwight Clark (or more aptly, from Rice to Terrell Owens.) Harrison will find a way to be a big part of this game, even if he's on a play count.

This sounds to me like he won't be playing. Harrison for the long run is better than Harrison for one game, that they may not win anyway. That's my take. I'd give it an 85% chance he sits. Even if he starts, he'll be used mainly as a decoy and maybe one long play once the defense realizes that's all he is. I have him in two leagues where lineups are due by noon, even for Monday night games. I'm benching him and it hurts to do so.

Unless you're referring to RANDY Moss, I would think that Curtis is an easy call here.

I couldnt possibly disagree more.

I agree Tom (it is Santana). I would go Curtis out of the three. I'm sure I'll take Harrison out, just hope I don't regret it.

Anything new? Few minutes until final lineups have to be in.
If you have to set your lineups by noon I think you have to sit Marvin. It's way too risky to start him given how there hasn't been a single report the entire weekend that sounded optimistic about him playing today.

LT Ugoh has been ruled out, and no mention on Harrison so take that for what its worth. Considering last week he was scratched on Friday, dont know if this is good news or not.

That is why if I was a Marvin Harrison owner I would be playing him. Tony Dungy can say all he wants that this is just any other game but the truth is it is not. This game will most likely decide who gets home field advantage in the playoffs. At the very least Marvin Harrison will be suited up and run some routes if for nothing more then to be a decoy. I do not think he will post 100+ and 2 touch downs but i think a modest 50 yards with one score is possible and then add to the fact that he is Marvin Harrison and there is some upside to that. I would most likely look at your match-up for this week and if you just need some safe production then go another route but if you need upside then if Marvin plays he gives you that.

Fox's Glazier just reported that Harrison will either be OUT or severely limited.
Dungy would have to be a gigantic idiot to play Harrison if he's severely limited or to use him as a decoy. Either way, you run the risk of further injuring the knee. If he's going to be severely limited Dungy has to sit him. It sucks for Harrison owners because he owns the Patriots but Dungy has to be smart here and keep the big picture in mind - even if a loss today means the Colts are on the road should they play NE in the conference title game.

honestly, i have until gametime to decide, but...

if i sit marvin for sure now, all my 3 wrs play at 1:00 (david patten, james jones, brandon marshall) - i know, but i also have gates now.

if i start marvin, i can still swap him out for joe. jerivicious or andre davis at 4 if he is out for sure....

what should i do?

I'm in the same situation. I'm sitting Harrison.

Sound was down on CBS halftime show but they showed Harrison standing on the sideline, didn't look like he was suited up to play. Looks like he'll be sitting it out. They showed Manning running through patterns without him.

Nothing definite though, as I couldn't hear what was being said.

Just said he is inactive...

the other two statements could be correct since he was on the field. He just is not ready to go, and Dungy is looking at the long term picture.

Both were probably correct... the first time CBS showed him, he was standing around while Manning went through reps. He probably just joined later, as the next time they showed him he was catching passes and jogging slowly. He is definitely inactive though.
