***OFFICIAL*** Minnesota Vikings 2016 Season Thread (1 Viewer)

I mean cmon.  what else does Walsh have to do to lose his job?  hes lost multiple games over 2 seasons and is clearly struggling.  can him and move on.   he's gonna cost you more games going forward.  I guarantee it

Asiata worth a hold or a 3 way mess to avoid at RB?
Probably not and yes. McKinnon is the only RB who has the upside to be a hold.

The offensive line is not very good support for any RB right now. Not sure if they are the worst line or if it is the Rams or the Seahawks right now. But they are pretty bad at run blocking.

Vikings Activate QB Taylor Heinicke, Waive TE MyCole Pruitt

Some cleaning house I guess. As noted in the article Pruitt was a player than Norv went to bat for in the draft process, they selected him before Stefon Diggs for example.

Seems interesting to bring up a 3rd QB over keeping a TE but maybe Pruitt will be back at some point when healthy.
I don't know what the odds are but I feel I should put a few dollars on Heineke finishing out the season at QB.

Just feel like the conventional media  likes to totally dismiss the 3rd string QBs.  Like last year when Peyton retired  - at that time  there was no way on earth that Trevor Siemen would take over for him.  Heineke is on the roster because someone believes in him and stranger things have happened.

I'll preface this with I have absolutely no idea if this team finally got the message, or if they continue to wallow in the mud..

I'm going to lean that Zimmer gets them going again.. 20-17 Vikings.. :football:

This team got our hopes up with smoke and mirrors to go 5-0 .. After 4 straight losses, and the next 3 games being Cards, @ Lions and then Cowboys, they could stretch that to 7 straight losses and start preparing for next year. :kicksrock:

9 games in and.. and.. and.. ........................sorry, having a hard time typing this next part.......

The Lions are in 1st place :jawdrop:

I don't think so simsarge.  :(

I thought this was kind of interesting.

Geoff Schwartz ✔ @geoffschwartz

My agents phone is always on. I'll be ready for someone to call.

I think there was some bad blood when he left the Vikings (at the time he was playing better than Fusco) and he is available for a reason, but as Zimmer said during the press conference, there are other options available.

Zimmer seemed kind of miffed that reporters talked to Boone about possibly moving to tackle. That is another option though.

Its fair to say the Vikings gave him every chance to keep his job. I think he'll catch on somewhere else and be fine. I expect Kai Forbath to be signed today.

Agreed on the Vikings giving him every chance (to many chances actually). Personally I think the dude has just totally lost it, I am not seeing a bounce back.

Walsh was definitely an interesting situation. I'm not sure how an NFL team can best deal with what boils down to a headcase issue. Sort of reminds me of Chuck Knoblauch's insane inability to throw to first base. Personally, I think Walsh is more psychologically fragile than other NFL kickers. Watching guys kick extra points, it's very ho hum and no different than it was with the shorter kicks. I just don't think Walsh could ever redeem himself to himself, his team or the fan base after the brutal Seattle miss. He could make 30 straight and people would still be white knuckling any short playoff kick. I also agree with what Gardsie (KFAN) said, that one benefit of moving on from Walsh is starting with a clean slate. If any new kicker misses a kick it gets moved on from immediately, and doesn't have the psychological compounding effect that everyone feels when Walsh misses a kick, remembering other key kicks he missed, etc.

How badly hurt are those defensive starters that got dinged this past week?  I have been a faithful mn def owner all season but I'm starting to think the time is right to bail.  3 straight blah performances.  the offense is a big reason why but they have stopped making big plays on defense too.  any thoughts?

Eric Kendricks only played on 11 snaps due to leaving the game early. However he practiced in full on Friday, so hopefully he can play a bit more than that.

Chad Greenway played 92% of the snaps last week.

Captain Munnerlyn and Marcus Sherels (who did not play last week) had full practices on Friday so hopefully should be able to contribute. Newman played pretty well from the slot but Munnerlyn generally does a good job there and helps against the run pretty well.

Brian Robison maybe shouldn't be getting so many snaps and they could get Hunter more involved.

Harrison Smith has had a couple bad games now and Barr has missed a lot of tackles too. They can play much better than they have been recently.

Some credit is due to Washingtons offensive line doing a good job.

It sounds like Honey Badger won't play, so that is somewhat of a lucky break for the Vikings offense today.

The defensive line hasn't been getting much pressure lately. That is the 2nd biggest problem during this losing streak (o-line being number one). It is really concerning because that is probably where the team has been the most healthy.

I heard the Vikes are allowing 4.4 YPC by running backs the past 4 weeks, and that will have a huge impact on the defense generally. Manageable 2nd/3rd downs results in more dink and dunk pass routes and less pass rush opportunities. Hopefully they do better starting today.

This has the signs of a 13-10 game.. Going to have to lean towards the Cards to run the Vikings losing streak to 5 :(

I will miss Norv Turner and Blair Walsh. Both were victims of the teams lucky start.  Who are going to blame when they eventually lose this one.

So very glad to have been wrong here.. A TD from the Defense and a TD from the Special Teams sure helps..

6-4 and now Thanksgiving day in Detroit for the Division lead ..

Great game by the DST and reminiscent of their pre-Bye games. But they definitely are benchable the next two games. Both Detroit and Dallas average single digits allowed to DSTs this year. Palmer looked bad. Real bad. I'm sure our secondary had a lot to do with it, but man he looks all but done.

Everson Griffen was getting hits on Palmer pretty consistently. Those start adding up after awhile.

Just looking at the snap counts now.

Justin Hunter played on 70% of the defensive snaps, just one less than Brian Robison.

I saw him miss a tackle on David Johnson that was there for him if he just collapses down the LOS, but maybe Johnson makes a great play with a burst to beat the angle. Not entirely sure. One of his sacks came from RDE spelling Griffen.

Chad Greenway only played on 15 snaps (20%) as Kendricks played on 69 of them (93%).

Munnerlyn played on 63 snaps (85%) and Newman only played on 22 (30%).

So the defense was primarily in the nickle the whole game and was not as effective against the run in part because of that. I saw at least one defensive snap where 3 safeties were on the field. Kearse get blocked out of the play and they had a nice run on that one.

Charles Johnson played on 13 snaps (22%) and Treadwell on 6 snaps (10%).

Zach Line played on 18 snaps. I suppose helping in pass protection, but I did not notice any of his blocks being very effective.

Adam Thielen actually had one more snap 44 (76%) than Stefon Diggs 43 (75%) Patterson played on 35 snaps (60%)

Patterson led the team in targets with 8 but he only caught 4 of them.

Kyle Rudolph missed several blocks in this game including the blocked extra point. On one of Bradford sacks I would put that on Rudolph who barely chips his guy when he needed to route the defender to the inside where Clemmings was free to pick up the block after the chip. Rudolph in too much of a hurry to get out on his pass route to bother with an effective chip on that play.

I am pretty happy that the Vikings were able to keep Weatherly on the practice squad all this time without another team picking him up. He showed some promise in preseason as a DE and only narrowly beaten out by Trattou who was no longer eligible for the practice squad.

Cutting Hillman leaves only McKinnon and Asiata as RB on the roster. The 3rd RB would be Zach Line by default I guess.

I have to think this points towards Peterson being healthy enough to be activated soon. He is supposed to healthy enough to practice in December which will be soon. Otherwise the move doesn't make too much sense.

Was looking for more info on this also.  Hope not!
He's out.

Stefon Diggs - WR -  Vikings

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Stefon Diggs (knee) will likely miss Thursday's Week 12 game against the Lions.
Playing on a short week, Diggs just didn't have enough time to recover after injuring his knee Sunday against the Cardinals. It's a big blow for the Vikings. With middling receivers and no running game to speak of, Diggs has been the focal point of the team's offense all season, particularly since Pat Shumur took over as OC earlier this month. Adam Thielen will slide in as Sam Bradford's go-to target and should command WR3 status in Week 12.

They had one of the most "orginal" offensive game plans of the season the last time Diggs was out so I expect a lot of Patterson and do I dare say Treadwell. :oldunsure:

according to @snoggerthere's nothing to see here
 was just trying to keep people from being "fearful" of the offense without Diggs. They did a very good job mixing things  up last time he was out.. With Thelien having a good week then and last week I expect Lions D to key on him and Rudolph.

So I would not be surprised to see Patterson or someone else have a Turkey surprise :)

Or the def to win.  that has gotten more wins than the offense

What a crappy way to lose. Bradford all year has been gold when it comes to protecting the ball.. Then after getting a 1st nullified because of a dumb play by Patterson, he tries to force it and Game. :kicksrock:

Now next week they get to face the Cowboys next Thursday.
